A Clergy has implored the Southern African Development Community (SADC)Heads of States and Government Summit scheduled for this week in Lusaka to prioritise on its agenda the economic and political crisis in Zimbabwe.
Rev Peter Ng’uni from the Church Planters Network says the meeting should deliberate
on how best countries in the SADC region can help solve the situation in Zimbabwe.
Rev Ng’uni said this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.
The Clergy also advised that SADC Heads of State and Government leaders should also
look at ways of enhancing cooperation among member countries adding that this will
greatly improve the region’s economic development.
Rev Ng’uni cited movement restrictions in some SADC countries as other issues to be
seriously checked to help reduce the cost of business in the region.
And Rev Ng’uni says his congregation is happy with preparations made by Government
towards the SADC Summit.
The SADC Summit which officially opens on Thursday at Mulungushi International
Conference Centre on its agenda is expected to look at the Zimbabwe crisis, 2010
World Cup slated for South Africa. The SADC Brigade is also scheduled to be launched
at the same meeting among other issues.
President Levy Mwanawasa who is the current SADC Deputy Chairman takes over the
Chairmanship from Lesotho’s Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili.ÂÂ
Rev Ng’uni also expressed happiness that planned demonstrations by the Oasis Forum
on the the country’s Constitution Review Process has been deferred.
He has since called on all peace loving Zambians to welcome the delegates who will
be attending the SADC Summit.
And Rev Ng’uni has commended President Mwanawasa for supporting the declaration of
Zambia as a Christian nation adding that it should also be upheld in the
constitution of Zambia.
Rev Ng’uni noted that it was also important that churches play a leading role in
preaching and praying for a peace in the country.
He further appealed to all church planters to attend the official launch of the
network on the 18th August, 2007 at the salvation army, Kabwe roundabout.
