The ministry of health has started distributing the 460,000 free insecticide treated mosquito nets to people in Eastern province.
Provincial health director, Dr. Kennedy Malama said the mass distribution of
insecticide treated mosquito nets is being carried out in all the eight districts in
the province.
Dr. Malama said his ministry was working with UNISEF in the distribution of the nets
to prevent malaria which he said was the leading killer especially in Mambwe and
Chama districts.
Dr. Malama said sleeping under insecticide treated nets is one of the effective
interventions to fight malaria.
Finally these commodities are getting to the people. That should be enough for every kid in eastern power to sleep under a net. If the ditribution system will be robust. But please dont sell, give them free.
I hope the people will use the nets properly. Let’s not have the situation like the one a couple of years ago, in Luapula, where the nets donated by USAID ended up used for trapping Kapenta.
I think in Luapula some people still use them for fishing, but overall the evidence is at least 80% who have them do use them.
This is good news for my people!
