The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has pleaded with the Zambian government to let Zesco Limited resume power supply to that country.

Upper Katanga Province governor, Jean-Claude Kazembe-Musonda, made the appeal to the Zambian government when Copperbelt Minister, Mwenya Musenge, was in Congo yesterday.

The Governor said it is saddening for people to stay without power and asked the Zambian government to help in negotiating with the power utility firm to continue the supply of electricity.

Governor Musonda noted that it is not a pleasant situation for the people to live without electricity but promised that the DRC government will pay off what it owes Zesco.

And Mr Musenge said the Zambian government will provide the platform for smooth negotiations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zesco for the continued power supply to the DRC.

Zesco has discontinued the supply of power to the DRC owing to the money owed by that government.

  1. So cutting off power supply to the DRC has been because ZESCO was owed money and not because Zambia had a power deficit…..Unless I’m mistaken, this sounds to me like another confirmation of some people have always said : That load shedding is not just because water levels had gone down and all….We actually sell electricity at the expense of local demand.

  2. Just look at the name Kazembe Musonda. Indeed Katanga is a province of Zambia. They are Zambians, give them electricity.
@2 Rooting 4 Zambia, bwana UPND cadre, you are probably commenting on matters that you donot understand. If you want to say something it should a question to understand things. Then you can yap all you like…..you guys are all the same as HH….yapping and angry face all the time.

    • Export power and earn hard cash rather then sell power to zambian factories which are shutting down due to load shedding ??

You PF kaponyas are indeed very shallow. No wounder the zambian economy is a mess you are shot sighted and only look to earn easy money.

By rather supplying zambian factories with power more zambians get employed and GRZ tax Base increases. But that is too much hard work for you , long ting, and you can’t steal from private factories rather earn quick money by exporting the power.

  3. Unbelievable! So Zambians have been suffering because power goes to Congo? Our decision makers have serious issues!!!

  4. Please ignoramuses Rooting 4 Zambia & Night Rider, when the nation experiences surplus power, it has to export coz there’s now way of storing power and according to regional agreements Zambia has to export to neighbouring countries. That’s why we even export power to South Africa and not your shallow conspiracies.

    • Don’t lie, all regional agreements have cavets
Zambia factories are shutting down even some mines were lying off workers due to load shedding.
The way PF see this is like this….

that power is from God no work is involved in producing it so just export it and earn hard cash.

Supplying zambian factories to ensure production and that they don’t lay off workers is a long ting….and will mean GRZ having to work…..just sell the power for hard cash. Forget the zambian factories for now….

  5. Since they are cash strapped, maybe its time to think outside the box and consider letting Congo DR pay Zambia in Copper at a rate to be agreed. Of course we should only sell surplus to our requirement,

    • Don’t tell that to the PF. If the Congolese add a bribe PF will gladly take their copper and shutdown our mines putting more people out of work.

  6. Finally one country has come to light,we await for you to stop supplying to our neighbors when we ave a deficit. Hence why we have another utility company under performing. Its high time they look at other efficient ways to provide electricity, ie solar, waste etc. Stop blaming the water levels…… @Spaka like lilo so true

  7. Other countries look after their OWN people before doing business with outsiders. Why do you think Obama pulled soldiers out of the war zone? It is to save american tax payers money. He instead put money in the health system and education. Businessmen hated him for it, but he saved America

  8. @terrible indeed.
So for you Zambians are either PF or UPND.
What a cheap way to reason. God help Zambia if you are holding a government position.
Zambians used to think and distinguish between right and wrong and evil and good before your PF came to power in 2011. Read stuff before 2011 to help your nimble brain. There is more out there than your party.
