President Edgar Lungu has commissioned the 175 kilometer Mansa- Luwingu road which has been upgraded to bituminous standard at a cost of over US$200 million.

Speaking when he handed over the project, President Lungu said his government will continue to deliver on its promises which include providing a good road network to all parts of the country.

And speaking at the same event, Chinese ambassador to Zambia Young Youming said he is happy that Zambia and China have been cordially working together in infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, Works and Supply Minister Yamfwa Mukanga said the road will enhance economic activities in the area.

Six chiefs in Luwingu district in Northern have pledged to rally behind President Edgar Lungu in the August 11 polls because of his good leadership style.

Speaking on behalf of other chiefs, senior chieftainess Chungu of the Bemba people affirmed that Luwingu district has received its equal share of national development.

Chieftainess Chungu cited the 175 km Luwingu-Mansa road which he said will spur economic development in the district and connecting the area to neighbouring Luapula province.

ZANIS reports that the Chieftainess said this when she and senior chief Shimumbi and chiefs Chipalo, Chabula, Tungati and Katuta met President Lungu when he visited the district on his election campaign tour.

Chieftainess Chungu also commended President Lungu on his stance of campaigning for peace in the nation.

She commended government for maintain warm and cordial relationship with investors from China and other countries who have since invested in Luwingu district.

The chiefs condemned violence that is being perpetrated by some selfish politicians.

And President Lungu thanked the chiefs for rejecting the opposition.

Mr. Lungu assured the traditional leaders that government is committed to developing not only Luwingu but the entire country.

President Lungu later held private talks with the chiefs.

    • $200 million USD for one road and this useless president thinks this progress. Where will he find that money and who is going to pay taxes for that road when level of unemployment are low and donors are fed up and starting to leave. I hope he is not selling our country to China just because he wants to win – which he won’t. We really have to start thinking about the future of our people rather than winning an election. These Chinese have abused the African investment and are reaping our little resources at an astronomical rate. It won’t be long before they own almost everything in Zambia because of a useless person like Lungu. The Zambian resources are to be protected and persevered for Zambian people especially the poor.

  1. I keep on hearing that a road has been commissioned in Western province, a new road in Luwingu, Muchinga etc, when are we going to see the Solwezi-chingola road worked on. The road is in a mess and soon the rain will start pouring and the road will become impassable. Do you want us to start blowing up things before you can work on that road. Since the days of Mushala, we the people of Northwestern province vowed never to ever engage in war again but looks like we are being pushed towards that slowly. Remember all the guns that Mushala was using for 7 years, we never surrendered them because we are aware that one day we will need them.

    • The kaondes were busy stoning the presidential motor cade when Ecl went to sunction the contractor to speed up the works. How do you expect the road to be completed in time. Banzoro wanzaweyi

    • Techilema, are you confirming that ECL is paying evil for evil or GRZ has no money to complete not only Chingola-Solwezi Roads but Chingola – Kitwe road too

    • Tekanya Kaonde, Chingola-Solwezi road will be one the best in the country, just like Mongu-Kalabo road. ECL will see to it. VOTE EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU for practical development, while some are building castles, not even in the air, but in their mouths.

  2. As good as infrastructure development may seem, how good is it when people are starving or have nothing. Is it right to not pay civil servants and paying for roads? A president makes sure laws are faithfully executed and that organizations pay people on time, not after 5 months. Every employer must, without discrimination, grant equal salary or wages to the members of his personnel who perform equivalent work at the same place and this is a fundamental human right because people don’t eat roads? How can someone function on an empty stomach or earn a decent living? The law prohibits an employer from withholding an employees’ paycheck for any reason. Employees who speak up should not be punished or disciplined. In fact, the government should pay interest for the months they withhold…

  3. Abena Luwingu, we are happy because Kaunda neglected the area, MMD used the money allocated for those roads for personal use. But Sata, Sata Please may you become an angel

    • 4 sure it was only Sata’s PF and not ECL’s Party that Failed (PF) the people. he is still strugling with his solwezi- chingola road and at the parce he is moving, it will take him 20yrs to finish the 50km Kitwe-Chingola dual carriage which was 50% complete when he took over and from that time no progress worth talking about has taken place

    • How is he evil? For commissioning a road? You are the one who is evil with the advocators of black Friday which no well meaning Zambian will acknowledge.

  4. $200 million USD for one road and this useless president thinks this progress – half of this will be looted even before the road starts. Where will he find that money and who is going to pay taxes for that road when level of unemployment are low and donors are fed up and starting to leave. • The road is complete how do you mean by half of the money will be looted even before the road starts? Have you ever traveled on the road to know anything about its importance to people in the area?

  5. $200 million USD for one road and this useless president thinks this progress – half of this will be looted even before the road starts. Where will he find that money and who is going to pay taxes for that road when level of unemployment are high and donors are fed up and starting to leave. I hope he is not selling our country to China just because he wants to win – which he won’t. We really have to start thinking about the future of our people rather than winning an election. 6. Progress,
I spent my gap year doing voluntary work in Kashikishi, I love that part of the world. The people suffered for too long with bad roads. Well done PF. Dried fish from Lake Mweru can now get to Lusaka and the Copperbelt easier and cheaper. Cassava from Luwingu can get to the rest of the country easier. This is a win-win situation. PF deserves another them, vote wisely guys.

    • I kind of agree with you. The people who are criticizing the PF over roads are probably not well traveled.

  7. People dont eat roads. They want cheap food on the table, they want jobs, they way schools and health facilities etc. Lungu concentrated on road construction becoz that is where Pf made money.A road under PF costs USD 2million instead of $470000 per km.The difference between these two figures went into bribes hence earning ECL K13million in 18 months. This is a ripoff and yet the roads are being used for vote buying. Shame on PF.

    • It is highly *****ic to want to always consume instead of investing. When are we going to grow up? You cannot just be consuming without putting up infrastructure that will allow for more economic activities thus more jobs, thus more money.

    • They will certainly eat the food the roads will easily transport from remote villages. They will get the jobs from the investment the roads will bring. By the way, thousands upon thousands of jobs have already been created in the Health and Education sectors. So nothing that you have said makes sense because PF has already taken care of your concerns. It’s like you have nothing to SONTA. So let those who have a lot to SONTA do the SONTING. VOTE ECL, VOTE PF, a party for the people.
