Riots have broken out in most parts of Southern Province following the re-election of President Edgar Lungu.
Shortly after the declaration was made, some UPND supporters took to the streets of Choma burying tyres and blocking roads in protest against Mr Lungu’s re-election.
Hours later the riots spread to Monze, Magoye and Livingstone.
In Choma riot police have been deployed and teargas canisters fired to disperse the protestors.
They say the election has been stolen from Hakainde Hichilema by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Some interviewed said they have suffered enough and will not allow another election victory to be stolen.
Some market stalls in Monze and Choma of Southern Province have been gutted by protesting residents following the reelection of President Edgar Lungu.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police Godwin Phiri,who confirmed the development yesterday, said the police were on the ground to control the situation.
The Southern Province overwhelmingly voted for Mr Hichilema in Thursday’s elections.

There was no rigging for some of us who were privileged to be in mulungushi we knew on Friday that HH had lost what took time to announce the results was verification. HH won in 3 provinces while the rest were taken by Lungu. You must very naive and absurd where do u even get the logic to explain where one party gets the majority of seats in Parliament then you expect the one with minority seats to win. How do you expect one to rule the country when more than half of his votes came from one region? To say the least Tongas are pathetic. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Riots allover the South. Let the people of Zambia speak up for once and force Lungu to the negotiating table. A broad based government of national unity is what is needed to heal the wounds. This is a regional feeling rather than a national one and it is part of UPND strategy to force a government of national unity. It had already been talked about and exposed in the past! The fact they voted overwhelmingly for UPND regardless of what PF had done in that province does not mean that everyone agreed with them. The only way to challenge Lungu’s re-election is through the Constitutional Court not riots and Govt.of National Unity is not provided for in our constitution!

I am the lawyer. My advise is that no court will find anything wrong with the ECL camp but everything wrong with HH. The election results were being processed strictly on HH’s directives/commands, no votes were stolen fron HH – this is a case of a child who has eaten his share of food from his mother without when his friend waits outside and he goes to demand that he eats the food of his friend prepared by his friend’s mother. If his friend’s mother denies him access to the food he says banjibila ifyakulya.

On the single tarred road to NW, the road disappears long before you reach Solwezi. A 2 hours journey takes 5 to 6 hours. Accidents occur due to invisibility caused by dust on the road. And yet A significant portion of TAX comes from mines in NW. A friend of mine in PF conceded that they could expect little from NW on that account. The NW vote is not tribal. It is purely a rejection of exploitation and non development period. Be issue based when you discuss on forums. MMD proved that if you bring development to NW, you get the vote. Am not like that, instead I will be the President of the Zambian Economy just as the whites have managed to be the masters of our economy it doesn’t matter who cheats himself they are the president of Zambia. The world economy is at a logical level. Those who tie their minds to physical boundaries are doomed to failure-like 95% of Zambians.

I totally disagree on Masebo.She is a very active speaker in Parliament, we will miss her but don’t worry Masebo it is not over till God says it is over. Hey people we are led by our constitution, not people, the presidents are just operatives of the law. They can’t do anything outside the law. So the most important requirement for presidency is the ability of one to uphold the constitution. About development the country is just supposed to have a national development plan which is adhered to and is non-partisan. Performance of parties and presidents in governance is supposed to measured against this blue print with milestones. Not people just accusing each other and claiming to have done and that. For example, it should be possible to take a president to ransom for doing something good for people which was not part of the plan i.e increasing civil servants salaries.
This lawlessness must not be allowed to go on! Lock ’em up including those who are instigating the mob! Let Hazalusa Hagain repair the damage in his tribal land. I am sure Nosedramas and Je Je agree!
