AU team arrives in Lusaka for retreat

Share

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) has arrived in the country for a retreat that will focus on the root causes of violent conflicts on the continent.

Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU) Osman Keh-Kamara has revealed that conflicts hinder development in Africa hence finding ways to resolving these disputes enable economic growth.

Ambassador Keh-Kamara said countries in Africa need to double up their efforts in order to end the conflicts.

He said this year’s retreat is being held under the theme ‘Practical steps to silence the guns in Africa by the year 2020’.

Amb. Keh-Kamara said the retreat will be held from the 7th to the 9th of November 2016 at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

He thanked the Zambian government for the integral role it has played in promoting regional peace.

He further said the council remains committed to fighting for peace and stability which are two of the main components of the Agenda 2063.

Amb. Keh-Kamara has meanwhile congratulated President Edgar Lungu for his re-election as President and commended Zambia for holding peaceful general elections.

Zambia recently became a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council and is hosting the 2016 retreat.

  1. What retreat. Please come sternly warn lungu. He is really leading this country in the wrong direction. Constitution was violated during the election petition and laws have continue to be broken. The country is under a lawless regime and this has potential to cause problems. Lungu must be made to prove he legitmately won by an impartial party then everyone can accept but as it stands a lot doubt his credibility and this also has investment and economic implications.

    • I feel a shamed that Africa is a fertile ground for dictatorial regimes and dictators not for inventors and innovators. Had not been the case it would have developed. People particularly from the developed world should be worried about shaking the unclean hands of dictators and their disciples with blood of their own subjects

  2. There they go. These guys have just come for holidays. let them just go to Livingstone & see Vic falls because they won’t achieve the intended goal in Lusaka. instead of telling Lungu to stop using guns and the police on the innocent opposition, they’re commending him for holding a so called peaceful election. these chaps don’t even know that we have had the worse violent election in 52 yrs? now we have opposition in prison for drummed up charges. Africa, cry Africa

  3. I though all they do is holidaying in the name of elections observations and international conferences? How can someone rest from rest?

  4. TIA indeed! Workshops, retreats or whatever while Edward, Mugabe, Mu7, Nkurunziza, Obiang Nguema, Dos Santos, etc continue raping their people
