The Commonwealth office should do more to assist in one way or another ex service men that fought under the British Crown in the second world war and those that died in the first world war should be honoured post humously.
Nzelu, the 11th is to commemorate those who fought in the world wars. Zambian soldiers acquitted themselves very well in the Second World War. It’s why some of our barracks have foreign names: Arakan is named after a battle in Burma and Tug Argan after one in Somaliland. It is good to see that the contribution made by Zambia to defeating Nazism and Fascism is still remembered by some but sad that so many Zambians are ignorant of their country’s history. It is also sad that it has been turned into another politicised event rather than one in which we reflect on the past, our values and place in the world.
