Clearly the UPND convoy gives way in this video. The Police may have not been expecting a clear route so they may have been caught unawares to find another convoy on the road. Shouldn’t the government be looking at the state of that road rather than crying over HH not giving way? It’s just too narrow a road such that even legal overtaking seemed to be at great risk for any road user.

This is the only road leading to the Royal Village, it is in a very bad state, there were hundreds other motorists and thousands of road users on foot etc on the material day. Maybe for once the police played a professional role by not blocking traffic throughout just to allow the President’s convoy to pass thereby avoiding an accident as everyone rushes to get there in time.
From the video the only incident is when one of the police cars swerves towards the UPND vehicle almost leading it to career off the road. Otherwise everyone seems not to mind.

We are obviously seeing different things in the video. You can clearly see the first police vehicle try to force the first vehicle off the road which the driver refuses to obey, then the second police vehicle goes in with a lot more force which almost succeeds in forcing the vehicle to give way but also fails. The UPND cadres were disrespectful.
Ok. Now we have seen the evidence. There were TWO police sweeper cars and HH’s convoy did not stop. Furthermore, HH’s convoy has a man riding against Road Traffic Regulations and should have been fined for unsecured loading of passengers and endangering lives.
The sweeper vehicle tries to stop HH’s convoy but they continue moving. If this was the US President, UPND would either be mourning the death of their leaders or be visiting them in prison.

The presidential motorcade should not overtake because it’s expected to travel on a clear road. The IG says that road rules demand that we give way, yes we should give to fire engines, ambulances etc, but for the president the rule is CLEAR THE ROAD 100% as both lanes belong to his motorcade at the time he is passing. So the cars on the motorcade don’t observe any traffic rules, they don’t stop at traffic lights, check points, no speed limits etc. The safety of the President is in the hands of state security. So state security can block and clear the road for ECL to pass but HH’s security can’t block and clear the road for HH to pass. The presidential motorcade should not overtake because it’s expected to travel on a clear road. The IG says that road rules demand that we give way, yes we should give to fire engines, ambulances etc, but for the president the rule is CLEAR THE ROAD 100% as both lanes belong to his motorcade at the time he is passing. So the cars on the motorcade don’t observe any traffic rules, they don’t stop at traffic lights, check points, no speed limits etc. The safety of the President is in the hands of state security. Thank God that no one was hate, either way it was going to very bad for the country. So state security can block and clear the road for ECL to pass but HH’s security can’t block and clear the road for HH to pass. They just need to make sure that he is safe while observing traffic rules. I hope we have all learnt a lesson and this shall not repeat itself. Plan the President’s passage and ensure that he has the road to himself, then allow the rest of us to also use the road safely including HH and other leaders regardless of their political stance. It would very interesting to learn about the conversation in that car which HH was. The road is indeed bad but as per the law, the UPND convoy should have simply stopped to give way and nothing else would would have happened. Please next time do not allow the president to drive on those bad roads especially were there are so many people with different political views. Let the man fly his way to such occasions. HH and his company must just calm down and accept that for now Lungu is president and nothing will change this fact, as sad as it may sound to the supporters.
