The Zambia Information Technology on Tuesday afternoon raised CEC Liquid Telecom Headquarters to confiscate equipment allegedly used in phone tapping and other illegal activities.

Some equipment was also seized at another company firm during in the operation which saw ZICTA raid four other IT firms.

ZICTA Director of Support Service Mofya Chisala told a media briefing that the forensic experts from ZICTA and the Zambia Police Service will examine the equipment before taking appropriate action.

Mr Chisala said ZICTA is concerned that some IT companies are operating equipment that has not been standardised by ZICTA.

Other ZICTA sources that CEC Liquid Telecom was found in contravention of the law for allowing foreign companies to supply content on the Zambian market without following proper procedure and remitting prescribed tax.

The regulator said it was also targeting 17 other companies in the operation.

  1. Hehehe they ended raiding the intellengency lol. Most intellegency operate ingnito with pseudo companies. The joke will be on them.Mushota pass me some pop corns.Beat you at own game lol

    • Silly ZICTA…dont these chaps know about software development and engineeing. Tapping softwares are now free and offer free VPNs in more than 190 countries…just select and activate “HideMyA$$” ribbon. All one needs is a phone number of an !d!iot they are targeting, but the targetted !d!ot must be using a smart phone operating on either windows, iOS, or android: bingo!!!. When the targetted receives a phone call and they answer, you imeditialy get a text message and you can choose to record the conversation or simply listen…be literate ba 3rd world country!!

  2. Yaba bwafya kanshi ! We know the shareholding structure in CEC. So I suppose the raid shouldn’t be a surprise

  3. Raided because they have refused to corruptly pay lungu and thugs for favours like Vodafone did. When the pf have been tapping phones where has this zicta been? Please do not be f00lish

  4. The people who actually tap some phone conversations could be within ZICTA itself. Remember what they say: “The enemy within is far more dangerous than the one far away”

  5. Whether this is political or not, it’s a human right and part of the UN charter to have a “right to Privacy” and if this has been brought to light, then it needs to be dealt with accordingly! Surprised that Zambians don’t see this as a serious infringement of personal space.

    • @Grace Sikazwe ZDA, Dip.FM, FCCA:
You have disgraced yourself madame. But that is typical third world mentality of hundred qualifications but NO education and NO common sense!
Have you just realised that there is NO privacy in Zambia? Where were you when your PF Govt was legislating for the registration of ALL sim cards and What do you the think was the purpose for that registration?
Someone with brains would have known that the only reason for registering sim cards was for tracking calls – sensible democratic countries cannot ALLOW a Govt to do that kind of thing. You were busy dancing to Dununa Reverse and switched off your head!!

    • Exactly Chilyata, only in this case its “Hunter is Hunted” or “Trapper is Trapped”..khikikikiki

    • Exactly my thought. Listening in to someone’sconversation amounts to infringing on their right to privacy. Scared to know there are pipo busy doing this nosense. Zicta must UP their game.

  6. Ba ZICTA balishalila and they are not worthy being regulators. Stunted people running the institution. Is it there job to check who has not paid tax? Office abuse!

  7. let one of these bloggers get tapped, then will realise the importance of ZICTA. Some of you just comment for tyhe sake of it, but deep down you are cowards and do not understand the implications. It not about HH or ECL, its all about your privacy.

    • Only get tapped if you are dull as you appear in this posting. My friend, if there is a virus, then an anti-virus exists. IT is basic logic. Get up to date. Check my flag when I post..why does it show different flags?…VPN manipulation. Ok!!

    • The citizen and misapplication of social media. Others are using social media to insult individuals. Watch out all the vulgar mouths, inserters etc

  8. I get tapped and they have never done anything. Is tapping only illegal for certain individuals? I will only support them if they apply the law indiscriminately

    • Kiki I don’t hide anything. I have said if you are in Zambia am based at the upnd secretariat Monday to Friday. But as you are an economic refugee abroad you have failed to come to my office and face me. Everyone knows me as nez the strategist wiz. Ask for me when you grow balls to come home

  9. THE BEHAVIOR OF MOST GOVT WINGS UNDER THE CURRENT REGIME LEAVES MUCH TO BE DESIRED. DO THESE PEOPLE REALLY HAVE TO WAIT TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO? THIS IS WHY YOU SEE THEM OVER DOING IT COZ THIS IS NOT IN THEIR OWN STRATEGY. THERE IS A VERY THIN LINE BETWEEN ENFORCING THE LAW AND HARASSING BUSINESS OWNERS. A LOT OF COMPANIES ARE AT THE VERGE OF CLOSING DUE TO THESE HARASSMENT. THERE IS ALWAYS A BETTER WAY OF DEALING WITH ISSUES. I DO NOT SUPPORT LAWLESSNESS BUT AT THEY SAME TIME, I HATE BULLYING IN ANY FORM. WHAT HAPPENED TO DIALOGUE?
