The Medical Council of Zambia (MCZ) has set up a public complaints desk for the general public to channel their complaints against health practitioners in the country.
MCZ Public Relations Officer Larry Njungu confirmed the development to ZANIS today and said the desk would be under the auspices of the public relations department of the council.
Mr. Njungu explained that the desk would facilitate and expedite the process of channeling various complaints people have against some medical practitioners to the medical council.
He said the initiative comes against the background that most members of the public are unsure about how they can register complaints with the council against medical practitioners in various clinics and hospitals in the country.
Mr. Njungu said the desk would ensure that people air their complaints whenever aggrieved by any health practitioner adding that the council would respond promptly to their complaints.
He pointed out that the Medical Council is mandate to oversee the conduct of health practitioners in the country and ensure hat they deliver quality health care to the public.
Mr. Njungu said for the council to effectively carry out this mandate it would depend on the general public for feedback on the conduct of medical practitioners in the country.
He assured the nation that the new complaints desk would be utilized to assist the council ensure that professionalism is being upheld by all medical practitioners n the country.
Mr. Njungu urged the general public to fully utilize the complaints desk as this will assist the council to effectively deal with the misconduct of some health practitioners in a bid to enhance health care delivery in the country.
He has since appealed to the public to take advantage of the forthcoming Trade Fair in Ndola to approach the Medical Council of Zambia stand and get more details about the newly launched desk.

About time.
Ifyabupuba fyeka fyeka. Awe katwishi eko tuleya
Where is the complaints desk going to be based? Is this also a Lusaka syndrome as well where it will just exist in LSK at HQ thereby denying someone in Kaputa a chance to be heard? And lets hope it has not just being established to create a vacancy for a relative or girlfriend of someone within the Council. Having said that, you might want to improve your website as well so that you can receive complaints through email or some form of alert button describing area health centre in question, what time the complainant was at the healthcentre and son so that the staff in question can easily be identified. Hope it also won’t lead to which hunts.
a nice development as it is now the norm in the Uk, a country which at one time actually favoured no legal liability for the NHS and medical personel..
Then what?
palibe kanthu..then we wait for **** ups to happen and then the complaints will flow in 🙂
palibe kanthu..then we wait for fck ups to happen then the complaints will come flowing in 🙂
“Mr. Njungu urged the general public to fully utilize the complaints desk as this will assist the council to effectively deal with the misconduct of some health practitioners in a bid to enhance health care delivery in the country”, well said sir, but need to know where the desk will be put. Will it be in LSK or all over Zed?
At least will keep complaining when there are no services and make these guys work hard
BS
Long overdue
Health and Medical practitioners need to be guided and patients protected
I have a complaint -an overworked and underpayed doctor attended to me in Lusaka last week and was not thorough in his examination and misdiagnosed my ailment.who should I complain against, the doctor or the system that overworks and underpays doctors?
Good idea, but not the right time. Pay the nurses first and then implement the above. Bringing that now is simply intimidating health workers who are asking what belongs to them.
i have been following with interest some of the pronoucements of the council concerning the establishment of a complaints desk to protect the public. i wish to say that this is development in the right direction.this will strengthen mcz’s role as a watch dog.
however i think this development depends on ‘all things being equal’ because health care workers do not operate in a vacuum.
while we espouse to expect the best from our practitioners, we should also accord the best there is to them.this inludes both basic and continous professional training, working conditions, and living conditions. send people for further training, pay them well, improve the work environment, provide housing and other worker’s rights and incentives, procure the right equipment and stock medicines.
