EU head of delegation to Zambia Alessandro Mariani said during a meeting with President Lungu at State House yesterday that political players, including political parties should to do their best to maintain harmony and not raise tension in the country.
Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda told journalists after the meeting that Mr Mariani was accompanied by seven other EU delegates.
“Mr Mariani said political players must try to bring all partners to a negotiating table on matters of national importance,” he said.
Mr Chanda said President Lungu and the EU delegation discussed a wide range of issues of common interest to both parties.
He said the EU delegation called for dialogue between the Patriotic Front and United Party for National Development (UPND) as the main political parties in Zambia.
Mr Chanda said the EU delegates emphasised that as friends of Zambia, they have the duty to bring to the attention of the President matters they think can damage the reputation of the country.
He said President Lungu regretted that some political players are engaging in activities aimed at damaging Zambia’s reputation and urged such people to stop doing so.
Mr Chanda said the EU delegates also talked about the arrest of UNPD leader Hakainde Hichilema but President Lungu told them that the matter could not be discussed much as it is in court and assured the delegation that the due process of the law would take its course.
“He made mention that discussing the matter would be endangering the independence of the judiciary,” Mr Chanda said.
And Mr Chanda said President Lungu assured the delegation of his readiness to dialogue with any persons on issues of national interest.
Meanwhile, Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has stated that Zambia attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with Swaziland, which are based on mutual respect and shared goals on national and regional development.
The President said this at State House yesterday when he received a Special Envoy to His Royal Highness King Mswati III, Prince Hlangusemphi, Minister of Economic Planning and Development of the Kingdom of Swaziland who delivered a special message from the King.
President Lungu recalled the fruitful bilateral discussions he held with His Royal Highness King Mswati III on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on Africa held earlier this month in Durban, South Africa.
The President reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to the consolidation of existing bilateral relations with Swaziland, as well as the enhancement of cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
He commended King Mswati III for his sterling leadership of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in his capacity as Chairperson, and affirmed Zambia’s support of his Royal Highness’s tenure as chairperson of the regional body.
The President stated that Swaziland can count on Zambia’s continued support at the SADC and other multilateral fora.
The President described Swaziland as a strategic partner for Zambia hence the country will continue to value the close relations with Swaziland.
The President also discussed a broad range of issues pertaining to regional peace and security and called for greater integration of the SADC region.
And In his Special message to the President, King Mswati III invited President Lungu for a State Visit to Swaziland in July this year.
The King stated that among the issues to be discussed during the State Visit include: bilateral cooperation, business opportunities and capacity building.

Turkey is NOT a member of EU, stop misleading others. Turkey is a member of NATO but not EU.
Accession negotiations with Turkey to EU started in 2005 but never concluded until Turkey agreement to an Association Agreement with Cyprus. They were almost about to conclude the agreement, however, the negotiations were STOPPED after Turkey crackdown on the opposition after that failed coup attempt.
So EU did intervene in Turkey, the same way they are doing in Zambia.

Furthermore, Europeans are capitalists and, they are interested in protecting their interests indefinitely within the Zambia and the African sub-continent. Respect is earned not forced. Recognition which is respect goes beyond making public statements. Let Lungu prove he won through an impartial court and everyone will recognise him. HH will be the first one but must be through an impartial court. Everyone saw that those elections were fraudulent and almost everything about them was wrong

We have really lost our democracy in the past 2years. Sata shouldnt have died. His death brought political violence within the PF itsel first then later with other partiesf.God help this nation. I had confidence in former father Bwalya being there in PF since he experienced imjustice by PF on him but hes become a disgrace may be cos hes nolonger a father.20years into our democracy its like we have gone back even Kaunda error was better.I nolpnger watch ZNBC.As a tax payer I feel bad.
If EU is happy and not concerned with what is happening in our country why did they have to come to our Country then? Chanda is lying. They have come because ECL is abusing power and becoming a dicutator. He wants to turn Zambia into Zimbabwe.

EU is racist. In which way is it correct to go to a country head and engage him on a court case? It’s a unsubtle way of saying HH is arrested for Presidents pleasure. They need to stop pointing accusing fingers and understand we are educated enough to run our country and our Judges only studied Law in their countries in the first place! They are capable of doing their job.
LT has evidently been invaded by cult-like HH worshippers. My own observation is that UPND bloggers like Buck Teeth Lungu, Nostradamus, Maloza, etc. will never accept ECL as the legitimately elected president of Zambia despite all evidence to the contrary. This is most tragic because despite these blogger’s views, insults, and opinions nothing will never change this ineluctable reality. In an ironic way, I feel sorry for these guys because they seem not have overcome their loss last year and are still in some form of endless mourning. Instead of this endless mourning, why not spend your time more productively, planning and and strategizing for the 2021 elections to get rid of the party you detest so much?

The EU MPs’ resolution is the clearest indication that the PF-MMD alliance is a bad political strategy and the earlier President Lungu reorganizes his Cabinet, starting with Minister of Finance the better for the PF Government. The resolution by the EU MPs’ are definitely going to be conditions the IMF will include in the so called Mutati Zambia Plus which is now going nowhere slowly. It is also important for PF to recognize the fact that the resolution was essentially a legal note that also triggers Zambia on the ICC list as can be noted from the observation of the PF Government’s efforts to withdraw membership. The bad publicity the country is receiving in terms of dwindling democratic credentials is not good for economic development and stability.
