Zambia maintained their tradition of starting unbeaten in their opening matches at the FIFA U20 World Cup after beating Portugal in Jeju.
Zambia downed Portugal 2-1 to go top of Group C in their first game at the tournament South Korea is hosting from May 20 to June 11.
Edward Chilufya and Fashion Sakala scored in the second half to see Zambia make a bright start to their World Cup campaign.
But it was not before an edgy first half that saw Mangani Banda repeatedly tested by Portugal striker Rebeiro.
Conlyde Luchanga then had Zambia’s best chance in the first half parried by Costa in the 20th minute.
But Zambia found their groove after the break with Chilufya finishing off a rebound after Enock Mwepu volley was parried into his path by Costa in the 51st minute.
Sakala them slammed in a trademark volley in the 75th minute that extinguished flurry from Portugal prior to the goal.
Portugal them got a face-saver in stoppage time through Helder but it was too little too late.
Meanwhile, Zambia win was first opening day victory since beating Honduras 4-3 in a Group F game in their debut appearance at the 1999 tournament in Nigeria,.
Zambia later drew 1-1 with Jordan in their last World Cup outing at Canada 2007 in a Group B match.
And the victory was also a relief for Africa after Guinea were beaten 3-0 in their opening Group A match on Saturday by hosts South Korea.
We’ll done lads!
No one cares about this rubbish.
Thanks

Mushota – This is where you lose your huge fan base. Choose your fights wisely.
Bushe which University has awarded this girl a Phd? what she writes does not suggest to come from somebody with such credentials? Grow up my sister otherwise ulatusebenya fweba cibemba and those of use that have laboured to acquire Phds! Ala amano uliweka tayashinguluka ikobo elyo munshebwa nao aile namafi kubuko.
Its a lie namwebo ba luapula. What thesis can come out of such a nonsensical blabbermouth? I dare her or him to publish it
Mushota, the human being who feast on attention. What a small LOSER!!!
At least something interesting and away from politics. Our support is all the way with you our young heroes. Keep on making our country proud and beyond politics!
Well done boys but I am not impressed with the change of colour for the jersey. What’s wrong with our green or copper colours?
It probably had to do with the green and red of the Portuguese.
Congrates boys and keep up the fight
They need need to work on not allowing unnecessary goals because that one goal would have easily been 2 and and draw.
My only hope is that no 1mbecile will bring in politics here. If a retard @nez can avoid stupid political tribal comment then all normal people shouldn’t.
How can they bring politics here. We all know that the result is what it is because we have watched it for ourselves and reviews the result promptly on live TV. There was an independent referee there who everyone had confidence in. Now relate this to Zambian election and it is the total opposite. The ecz was biased all the way due to lungus appointments. We saw g12 document not been supplied. We had cases of Ugandan crooks gaining access to secure ecz rooms. Results delayed for weeks . I can go on.. so please do not come here and show your ignorance. The ***** wouldn’t just pass minus stepping on your toes, hh oval head who phuck are you to tell people on how they should give out their opinions, are you the one who paid for their cable channel , when your incompetent deadNBC can’t even show the Zambia game, banyopola ma 3 pin yama hala.
Well done boys, I have just looked at highlights it was well fought battle and the boys aggressively manifesting top notch confidence and preparedness.
Well done Zambia. Congratulations on beating Portugal.
Congrats Zambia keep up the good work…I hope FAZ can invest in modern training facilities back home instead of camping in Spain for a month can you simply copy and paste/ benchmark whatever is in Spain. If its Physios you are going for you can get them from Europe on 2 – 5 year contracts to train our people…you have to think long term.
Congrats boys you showed that you are the African champions
Keep it up please
Well Done boys. All the very best in the next two games.
Beston should not use that Boy Siame again because he his not ready as shown by his display.Enoch Mwepu deserves special praise for his calm and collected display
Well done boys. I watched the entire game. This said, we need to strengthen the mid field and the defence. Mangani did us proud in goal. Fashoni needs to be played in the middle and not 11 where he started from.
Now to my brother NEZ (new educated Zambia UPND ) BEST BLOGGER 2016; please keep party politics out of football. I am beginning to sense some elements of narcissistic personality disorderliness in some bloggers like you. Let us enjoy a moment of joy out of toxic politics for once.
Kikiki ukose
Keep up the spirit. Well done Boys.
Well done boyz. We are winning this one
Congrats to beautiful Zambia. Again Portugal failed with the ‘Pink Map’ this time on football 🙂 The best has to win.
Congrats to Zambia my humble prayer is to win the next game, viva chipolopolo
PLEASE KEEP HIM LOCKED UP FROM TOMORROWS JUDGEMENT, IF EVER HE COMES OUT LET IT BE AFTER JUNE 11 WHEN THE TOURNAMENT ENDS. The team is proudly PF STRONGHOLD AREAS so keep HH and his UPND LOCKED otherwise he will issue statements to frustrate the bOYS , THIS is our ONLY CHANCE TO LIFT THE U20 WORLD CUP, cos. african giants like CAMEROUN EGYPT NIGERIA were banned , never participated in the qualification series
Well done youngsters, how I wish the senior chipolopolo could put up such a splending display. Even the Ref was impressed by the young lads, saying they were playing like a family. Keep it up lads.
