The Zambian government says the decision by the U.S. government to withdraw from the Paris Climate Change Agreement will affect developing nations like Zambia.
Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Lloyd Kaziya said the planned withdraw was a blow to developing countries who were adversely being affected by the negative effects of climate change.
Mr Kaziya said developing countries needed developed nations like the U.S. to help in mitigating the side effects of climate change, adding that the withdraw of one major developed countries was a blow.
“It is a serious tragedy because we need these super powers to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. Right now we are struggling to get financing from the Green Climate Fund and the decision by the U.S. will just worsen the situation,” Mr Kaziya said.
On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will withdraw his country from the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
The announcement has received criticism from many parts of the world, with environmental campaigners saying American absence will make it considerable harder for the remaining countries to reach their agreed goals, given that the U.S. was responsible for about 15 percent of global emissions of carbon and promised 3 billion U.S. dollars to help other countries.
The Paris Agreement commits the U.S. and 187 other countries to keeping rising global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
U.S. payments to the UN Green Climate Fund, which helps developing countries cope with the effects of climate change, will stop following the announcement to pull out.
This means nothing

You forgot to add PhD on your arse.
Mushota,
You and the rest of your family need help…I am pretty sure you also don’t believe in climate change too…I saw in one of your posts you were stating that you had a PHD…is that PHD in poop studies…please shade some light on that so that we can have a clear understanding…have a blessed day.
Lungu, Mushota and Trump got something in common, low level EGO.
Stop buying teargas canisters, and heavy war like artillery for the police, just for the sole purpose of abusing people with opposing views, divert that money to finance programmes that will mitigate effects of climate change. WTF is wrong with African politicians.
Wortied about funding not the climate.. .whatever happens its about funding. HE ECL said not interested in money from neo colonists. China is not a member yet we encourage them in zambia.
I thought pf caders don’t want anything to do with colonialists, why are they complaining, let them get funding from mugabe or museveni.
Lol!! Chances are that this Kaziya has not even read a single word in the Paris Agreement
ABOUT TIME WE LEARNED TO STAND ON OUR OWN FEET. 52 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE AND WE ARE STILL DEPENDENTS FROM THE VERY PEOPLE WE CALL COLONIALISTS? AFRICA AS A WHOLE IS A VERY RICH CONTINENT BUT WE HAVE POOR LEADERSHIPS.
Imagine getting free money every year…when we have money to spend we spend on Solar Hammer Mills worth $200m and 42 Fire engines worth a whooping 1 million dollars each!!
As usual these lazy bones are worried about funding not on the environment or alternative sustainable revenue streams.
Trump raise a good point, he said America donates $100 billion to climate change. Zambia is one of the recipients , where does Zambian government take that money? They just pocket it as politicians.
Trump fulfilling his campaign promises, withdraw from the Paris climate accord is one such promise to the American people!
Kaziya is worried about the money is he worried that we chop down our forests without replanting and we also use charcoal for cooking. In his position what steps has the government to address the above issues.
I beg to differ with this government official. The onus is on you boss as a Zambian government official. Climate Change has nothing to do with funding. Are there no Biologists or Meteorologists in Zambia? I think it is time for me to come home. I have been gone too long, since 2001.
Comment:its sickening to see a leader get touched by the mere thought of delayed funding. the most profitable business in Africa is politics. looting and sharing. lol
