Ms. Kapata has called for Male Members of Parliament to be brought on board in championing SRHR.
Ms. Kapata , who is also Minister of Lands and Natural Resources , says the involvement of male Members of Parliament in promoting SRHR in their respective constituencies is vital if any meaningful progress is to be recorded.
She noted that out of the 156 constituencies’ in the country women are only 26 hence the need to engage the male Members of Parliament in
enhancing SRHR.
ZANIS reports that the parliamentarian was speaking during a multi-stakeholders training workshop for women parliamentarians organized by the National Assembly of Zambia in collaboration with the Southern Africa Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF), with the support of the Swedish Embassy.
And Chairperson of the National working group on SRHR, Christopher Kalila explained that the programme has a women front because women
are the most affected by issues of gender based violence, early marriages, HIV/ AIDS, reproductive health among others.
Dr. Kalila noted that, it is therefore important for women to take a lead in talking about and promoting SRHR.
He said when sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls are fulfilled, women can participate in the workforce in their communities
and public life in general.
And Kembe Member of Parliament Princess Kasune called for more SRHR interventions targeting girls who are not in schools.
Ms. Kasune noted that most SRHR interventions are targeted at girls in schools adding that there are a lot of girls who are not in schools
who are need of the interventions.
I am not sure that PF male MPs should be encouraged to threaten girls with sex.
