Central Province gets first Shopping Mall

Share

THE first ever shopping mall in Central Province has opened its doors to the public amid excitement by hundreds of people in the region’s capital, Kabwe.

Kabwe Mall, opposite Mulungushi Textiles in Lukanga Township, was constructed at a cost of US$20 million by Heriot Property Development Limited and was opened on Thursday.

The opening attracted customers from the host town Kabwe, neighbouring town Kapiri Mposhi and Mkushi, which is more than 150kms away, all hoping to benefit from discounted prices.

Central Province permanent secretary Chanda Kabwe and Kabwe Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) president Christabel Ngongola, in separate interviews yesterday, said the opening of the mall is a positive development.

Shoprite, Cashbuild, Pep Stores, Ackermans, Jet, Bata, Ok Furniture, Carnival Furnishers, Styles are some of the shops at the new mall. FNB and Barclays Bank have opened ATMs.

    • This is a condiut to suck the little money made in Zambia into South Africa. Look at the companies that are there including the fixed assests developer. Actually Jacob Zuma should have opened the place. Nothing to be proud of as Zambians. Let’s open value addition factories to create jobs locally.

    • THey have been sucking money out for years. and the trend continues. Zambia is a cow for SA firms… Lean milked cow.

And load shedding is part of normal life, while!!!!!!!!!
      The big picture…

  1. Zambians are very backwards. Is this what you call a mall? I saw the video of the so called mall and I was not impressed. Sadly most Zambians will still trade of the streets

    • If, by any chance, you have access to a dictionary, check the meaning of the word ‘mall’. The structure in Kabwe is fit to be called a ‘mall’ even if it is small. You are the kind of people who disqualify Simon Mwanza Kapwepwe Airport in Ndola as an international airport when that is where you land when you came from other countries.

  2. All those who are saying it’s not a Mall, please build the MALL so that the people of Ka we can have employment. Every time it’s being against

  3. I just wonder why having those shopping malls, really do they reflect what on the ground ; do we have enough industry! To buy from those malls I would like to see more industries revived than shops.

  4. Comment:
Am sure there are lots of Kabwe residents and others in surrounding connubations who are quite pleased with this development.

  5. How sadly ironic, close mulungushi textiles and then open mulungushi mall opposite the closed textiles. And pf carders are queuing up to praise this move. Guys these malls are creating jobs on south Africa! Cry my beloved country which is slowly turning into the 10th province of south Africa, a dumping ground for SA products.

  6. I don’t see any development here, this move made by the gvt sucks, only South Africans are happy cz thy making money on our asses 🙂 🙂
