Government says no effort will be spared in ensuring

accountability of donor and public funds.

Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao says this is because government is committed in attracting public confidence in the utilization of donor and public funds.

Mr. Simbao in an interview in Lusaka today said law enforcement agencies have since made marked progress investigating the misuse of public funds at the ministry of health.

He commended the donor community for remaining committed to supporting Zambia’s health sector.

Mr. Simbao said it is for this reason that donors have not withdrawn funding but merely suspended funding to the ministry of health

Meanwhile, Zambia has successfully kicked-out polio and measles that posed a major threat on the health of children in the country.

Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao disclosed this when he officiated at Child Health Week at Mtendere Clinic in Lusaka today.

Mr. Simbao further disclosed that the donor community has pumped K4 billion into the Child Health Week programmes.

The Minister named USAID, UNICEF and the World Health Organisation as some of the donors that have funded the Child Health Week activities.

And UNICEF Country Representative Lota Sywander said mothers are key to the survival of children.

Ms. Sywander has since encouraged mothers not to shun national programmes that benefits their children.

  1. Ba simbao your posture on the photo above leaves much to be desired. You looked like you were bursting for a loo…….. Atleast wear a smile or flaunt the animated face!

  2. yah! ba mdala imwe! you should have been accountable in the first place, not giving us this excuse now… the damage has been done. You didnt do your job, cant trust you for the future. You should just go mwe!

  3. “Government says no effort will be spared in ensuring accountability of donor and public funds.” Yes but can you state how you intend doing this by giving us facts for example like the accounting dept will be computerised hence the use of programs such SAP, Navision in all accounting transactions. That is what we want to hear. Not just saying we shall ensure accountability without telling us the tools you are going to use. What tools or technology are you going to use to control accounting?? It seems youn have felt the pinch of the withdraw of funding.

  4. Just hope you are serious this time……..we are tired of the same old excuses. Same damn problems in KK’s yrs, same problems during FTJ, the same in LPM, and now its RB’s turn to f@@K things up. How do you even sleep at night with all that poverty and hopelessness around you? Do your jobs for God’s sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I find this statement very difficult to believe. It is easier for the PF-UPND pact to impeach RB than for Govt to ensure accountability of donor funds

  6. #5 Ba Justice, you’re right on the mark! I wonder why the interviewer didn’t find it necessary to ask the minister what exactly he has done to assure us of this accountability.

  7. How are they going to ensure accounbtability. Please elaborate. May be the auditor general and private audit firms can give you advice. If Zambia was a donor, we would have withdrawn support too. No body wants a thief to stole their property. Otherwise why do you secure your personal household goods?

  8. No one like thieves. If Zed was a donor country, she would suspend donations until they are secured.

  9. What a useless statement…now they want to ensure there is accountability, clearly the didnot see the need before and it was none existent. They’ve robbed themselves silly and now feeling the crap up their butt.

  10. ya ya ya….awe kwena mu Zambia mwaba ifipuba. After donors have said no to your acts of theft, now you promise them that you will ensure accountability? Tell us , how are you going to do it if you cant arrest Miti, Chituwo and Maureen? These are the great thieves at the MOH.What we want is to see you arrest these guys. PLEASE DONORS DONT GIVE THEM MONEY TILL THEY ARREST THESE THREE THIEVES.

  11. Dont worry we wait and see. I for one am not optimistic. Here is the scenario you guys say we will account for the money, when in the first place we dont know how is coming. So what’s you think we will believe that half of it will disappear before the allocation is made. lets say u $50billion, before you can allocate any money, you lot will have taken out $20billion God knows for what. Then you allocate remaining moneys to all departments to accounted for, and we are supposed to be happy. Shut up and do wat you always do.

  12. If only the donors would ask us for the shopping list then we it to them, they do the shopping and bring us the goods. I gave money someone on the street who claimed to be hungry and homeless, only for me to her on the train the next day drunk late at night going home. I was upset with myself next time anyone needs money for transport or food I will buy it mysef and hand it over.
