THE Government has assured that Zambians living in Libya and Egypt are safe, following reports of bombings and suspected slave trade.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba, however, urged Zambians living in the two countries and generally in the diaspora to exercise caution in their respective localities.

Commenting on the recent mosque bombings by militants in Egypt where more than 300 people died, Mr Kalaba said the Zambian Embassy in Egypt had not received any report of a Zambian being affected in the blast.

“They are very safe because we are always in touch with our mission in Cairo,” Mr Kalaba said.

Similarly, Mr Kalaba said that the Zambian embassy in Egypt had not received any report of Zambians being caught up in the alleged slave trade in Libya.

Mr Kalaba, however, urged Zambians living in the two countries to contact its mission in Egypt or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, should they encounter any challenges.

The Zambian embassy in Egypt oversees the countries’ affairs in both countries following the closure of the mission in Libya at the height of political turmoil in that country.

  1. Events in Libya are shameful and must be condemned. The western countries are destabilising Africa, causing this migration crisis. They keep funding proxy wars in Africa, and fueling corruption to further their greedy interests. Unfortunately for Africa, our leaders are corrupt and incompetent. That includes our very own Jonathan. No vision, no principles, no morals, not fit to be a selfless leader.

  2. BLACKS are being traded as slaves and you are ok with that as long as there is no Zambian??.. Yet you made a useless comment on North Korea… What am I missing? Our mis-Leaders are really a sham to us blacks mwee.. After the abolition of slavery in 1865 its still up to the white man and now the Arabs conscious not to enslave blacks.. I mean if they decided to do it again (as they have in Libya) we clearly wouldnt unite and defend ourselves or speak out against injustice on our fellow blacks. The white man must be laughing all the way to the bank now that hes not the target of black blame.

An injustice to blacks in Libya is an injustice to blacks everywhere!!

  3. Mr Kalaba’s statement sounds typical from a government official who hardly updates himself with modern day slavery going on in Libya. In Libya all non Arabs are classified as potential slaves sold on an open market by auction. The question to Harry-up Kalaba is ‘who is not safe in Libya’? Read world reports/news will confirm that Libya is being sanctioned by ICC to answer charges made against the failed Libyan state. All black Africans from the South are traded as slaves in Libiya as per documentaries recently shown to the world.
Kalaba misrepresents Zambian government that Zambians in Libiya look like Arabs to assume they are safe.

  4. Kalaba is not doing a good job…he needs to be fired together with Kaiser Zulu…Just like others have commented on this Libya topic….its not about Zambians being safe or affected…its about the entire black race….its about time Lungu does something about these incompetent ministers…Kampyongo..Kalaba…Jean…Kaiser…the list goes on and on

    Anyway
2018 vote ZANU PF ( ED)

    2021 vote PF ( Edgar)

    I thank you

  5. Can the Libyans be kicked back to the sands of the middle east and Saudi Arabia. They are not even African proper. May the Lord Jesus open up Africans eyes.
