The 2012 AFCON winning captain described his relationship with Nyirenda as ‘lukewarm’.
“I think I have never been close to him, I don’t know what kind of a coach he is,” Katongo told reporters in Johannesburg on Thursday on the sidelines of the 2018 Castle 5-A-Side Soccer Tournament launch.
Katongo is in South Africa as Zambia’s headline legend for the two-day tournament launch that ends today, January 12 in Johannesburg.
“There is no relationship with me. We never talk, we just greet each other.” Katongo said.
“I can say is there is no relationship.
“But what is important is to give him the encouragement and information for the national team to go forward.
“But otherwise we are not close, we are not friends.”
