Police in Lusaka have launched investigations in the matter in which pictures of two girls believed to be in a same sex relationship have been circulating on social media.

Police spokesperson Ester Katongo says according to Section 158 subsection 1 and 2 of the Penal Code, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia, it is an offence for people of the same sex to engage in an intimate relationship or sexual affair.

She says Section 158 (2) states that any female who, whether in public or private ,commits any act of gross indecency with a female child or person , or procures a female child or person to commit any act of gross indecency with her , or attempts to procure the commission of any such act by any female person with herself or another female child or person whether in public or private, commits a felony.

Ms Katongo adds that any person convicted of this offence is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than seven years and a maximum sentence of fourteen years.

She further states that Section 155 (a) of the Penal Code under Unnatural Offences, criminalizes canal knowledge against the order of nature and anyone found guilty is liable to imprisonment for a term not less than fifteen years while the maximum sentence is life imprisonment.

Ms Katongo says Police officers from the Cybercrime unit have since instituted investigations in the matter involving the two girls.

She has appealed to people with information that may be helpful in the investigations to report to any nearest Police Station so that perpetrators are brought to book.

    • We can contrary those efforts to corruption. Corruption affect all of us… those people you are chasing though they are messing up with our natural tradition do not affect our economy. Corruption does!

      The real sh1thole

    • We can concentrate those efforts to corruption. Corruption affect all of us… those people you are chasing though they are messing up with our natural tradition do not affect our economy. Corruption does!

Priorities sh1thole Africa, priorities. There’s a lot of work police should be concentrating on like the 4 billion kwacha.
      The real sh1thole

    • When its PF corruption on social media, evidence is discredited no action taken. Bring on the Lesbians, the whole police force is in full swing.

    • Ms Katongo …you and your people get something else valuable to do……leave those ladies alone.

      Focus on corruption bane. DA.MN.

    • Rubbish, the law is even failing to clearly spell the penalties. ridiculous Zambian laws Katongo must just tell people she is using traditional tacit law..

    • While the penalty seems way too harsh, homosexuality is not only unnatural but it’s unAfrican. Homosexuality wasn’t as prevalent in Africa some 30, 40 years ago as it is now. It’s becoming common place now in Africa mainly because of the internet, as it has become easier for people to view what homosexuals do, and unfortunately learn from them. Any African promoting this European behavior has to have their head examined. Many cities in America are decimated because of this behavior. In some cities like Atlanta, people who are straight are made to feel like they’re the ones who’re abnormal. Not everything that comes from the west is good. Do not discard your African traditions for western values.

    • Unnatural? So are computers. Un African? How so? And why does it matter whether it’s un African? Viewing and learning from what homosexuals do is only bad if homosexuality is bad, which it isn’t.

    • Yes, the police that would hunt people down over what they do with a consenting adult behind closed doors, are worse than scum.

“Zambia loves escalators, just don’t be gay” now we can modify to “Zambia loves escalators, just don’t be Lesbians”

  1. Police has a cyber security unit and someone is paid for investigating cyber abuse, why should members of the public give a tip to the nearest police, its they are thieves thugs ..its fine but people who dont want to contract HIV please be serious lets focus on how we fire WADA and replace him with HERVE RENARD ASSISTANT COACH BUMWELE

  2. Very proactive when it comes to wrong priorities!!
Leave those kids alone, they are not hurting anyone, or engaged in plunder.
Go & find out why State House vehicles were escorting T@s1laz Mukula na Gulugufe’ image!!

  3. Where did the manpower for investigating this come from when you don’t have the manpower to control wayward PF cadres?

  4. Pombonyo always looking for easy bait.
Why not catch real thieves who are stealing boma cash on everyday basis.
    Disaster.

    • So? What does it matter if they aren’t hurting anyone? Culture is not a person, so it does not matter if it is “hurt”.

  5. I’m heterosexual but I find those cute girls admirable in their love and courage. Abash this archaic colonial law and mediocre and primitive (non)thinkers who support this law. Such laws that he police should just ignore with with while waiting for wise rulers to schedule scrap it.

  6. Change the police service into a police force. The service had made it weak apart from being corrupt and only effective in being corrupt and catching erroring motorist.

  7. If this practice is left unchecked, then we are losing the next generation and slowing down procreation which is express command God gave to mankind in the garden of Eden. the practice is evil, abominable and can easily be contagious to innocent souls.

    • Homosexuals can still reproduce, even without having straight sex. IVF is a thing.

The practice is not evil, because it does not hurt anyone. It is not contagious anymore than heterosexuality is.

God is just an evil fictional character, so his commands don’t matter.

  8. 1. The law is clear about homosexuality
    2. The bible is clear about homosexuality
    3. It is against nature

    Please arrest them

    • The bible is the most morally bankrupt book out there. Condoning murder, slavery, polygamy etc. Hopeless divisive book.

    • 1. The law is unjust.
      2. The Biblical god is the most evil character in all of fiction.
      3. Computers are against nature more so. Homosexuality occurs in the wild; computers do not.

      Please grow a brain.

  9. If you are comparing the culture of Africa with Europe, The USA and other more advanced countries in the world, you will find out they are more successful, have more wealth and they lead the world in technology, as they welcome equality and celebrate diversity as something that is good, as we all have our own goodness, and measuring it by our sexuality or sexual orientation in the privacy of our own, gives the freedom for all to be the best they can be, and spending more time on the sexual parts of people is a waste of time and money that can be spent on the advancement of all our talents we all have and can contribute to the world society. Through out history, a lot has been contributed by homosexuals and a lot has been contributed by those who did not make their sexual preferences…
