Government tells My TV and other stations to cease making illegal broadcasts

Share

ronnie_shikapwashaGovernment has advised My TV, registered for broadcasting license purpose as Trong Technologies, and any other satellite broadcasting licenses based in Zambia, that it is illegal to provide a platform for broadcasting for radio and television stations whose frequencies are restricted to specific areas.

This according to a press statement issued in Lusaka today by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services and Chief Government Spokesperson Lt. General Ronnie Shikapwasha

General Shikapwasha further said it has come to the attention of Government that My TV has entered into contract with MUVI TV to broadcast nationally through My TV’s satellite broadcasting system, programmes by MUVI TV which has its [quote]own broadcasting license.

General Shikapwasha explained that whilst satellite based broadcasting stations can broadcast their programmes nationally, they are not permitted to take on their platform, broadcasts made by other stations licensed in Zambia whose frequencies are restricted.

The Minister said, as a result of the above explanation, it is a contravention of their licenses to provide a platform for restricted broadcasting licenses to extend their services all over the nation.

General Shikapwasha cautioned My TV and all other stations to end the illegal broadcasts immediately, or else have their licenses revoked if they do not take heed.

  1. Thi is another fool that deserves to die. You’ve taken Zambians fo a ride just form too long. Die Shikafool and parve way for the good!! We don’t like you fool

  2. What is it that this chi shikapwasha and his government are afraid of by restricting development to rural areas? Honestly this is the issue which our government should be happy about it and help this stations to just upgrade their broadcasting lisences instead of threatening them, that way this stations will even help the government to market its development programes to all areas in the country. Mwe Lesa what is it that we zambians have done wrong to deserve leaders like shikapwasha who can not think beyond partisan and just themselves?

  3. Press freedoms are fundamental rights, just in case no one told you that, Shikapwasha. Do us all a favor and keep quiet for once.

  4. Ok zambians get to think of it.wud u expect sense out of a character with such a huge nose…for such retrograssive polloTIcians,i can only say MYSRIP in advance coz i ll be too busy to mourn such i d i o s y.fwa fye naiwe..

  5. Sir I will never ever believe you, eg you cheat on Teta, etc. Whatever, you say I will get the unsaid, the opposite. If you say Peter is standing, it will mean peter is not standing!

  6. Accountability says:
September 7, 2009 at 2:11 amFORMER first lady Maureen Mwanawasa (above) has said she wants to live a private and quiet life away from politics. Clarifying the lead story published in the Times of Zambia on September 4, 2009 where she was quoted as having said that she would vie for the Republican Presidency in 2016 and that she currently backed President Rupiah Banda for the 2011 election, Maureen said politics was not a priority in her daily life.
“I want to put matters clear and state that I was misquoted by the Times of Zambia Newspaper dated Friday, September 4th 2009 with a headline MAUREEN EYES PRESIDENCY…backs Banda For 2011 Polls. The news has traumatised me, my family and friends as it has painted me as being active in politics and being judged as…

  7. Is it not about the law. If companies are have a licence that restricts their transmission then why should they break the law? It is the same as condoning corruption is it not?

  8. Shikapwasha is pioneering in new terms, following his description of Tetamashimba’s condition as “picking up” which was followed in quick successtion by the fool’s demise, the Oxford Dictionary has offered to insert “picking up” to mean the same thing as dying! Which makes sense because he said the same thing about Levy before he died, no wonder Mrs Levy refused to shake his had at the memorial service, muloshi ‘two chickens”. This ability of his of knowing when politicians are dying has to be decorded, that will allow them to stop dying intestate or wasting our grudas on incurable diseases “ya kuiletelela abene.”

  9. please allow us also in rural areas know the truth. do not restrict the stations to lusaka area only. we as citizen need the better services after all we are paying the TV licence. Fear not big man. welcome my TV to rural areas.

  10. Hon Shikapwasha, RB last week signed some bills into law. Have you been sleeping in parliament? What is contained in the ICT bill recently signed? Donot mislead the nation, the ICT bill signed into law last week allows Coppernet to provide landphones, allows Zain to go 3G etc. You seem to be completely misinformed and stuborn, do you use your head for thinking or your nose?

  11. Shikapwasha it is really saddening finshi mutina are we not all citizens of this country dont we all deserve better. On the copperbelt twanaka ukutamba ama rubbish yapa ZNBC. Selfish man foolish man whenever i see you I see evil.

  12. What is Shikapwasha scared of muvi tv has done nothing wrong there is nothing in the laws of the country or rather communication authority which restricts one to go on satellite or he should say that even those radio stations broadcasting on internet should stop coz it illigale Shame on you big nose old man Why do you MMD people frustrate good work the media is doing in this country thats why Zambia can not improve there is too much of the PHD syndrome Can you just for once support our local companies not just supporting the Chinese and all those south African companies which do not even pay tax That why come 2011 MMD kuya bebele!!!!!

  13. Now I understand why the BUFFALO carrying our National Team crushed in Gabon. What were you Hon Rev Shikapwasha? You were Heading ZAF, eh? You never made a correct judgement on the usability of thst plane, eh? You even say Teta was well and minutes later he dies,eh? How trust worhty are you Lt Col Shikapwasha? Now is attack on MY TV, do you really understand ICT? Breeze FM and Icengelo in Chipata and Kitwe respectively and confined to their areas where they are, but do you know tha I listen to this radio stations here in Gaborone? SHikapwas please see beyond your BIG NOSE od ask for perescope as an AID of seeing

  14. Rev, if you were a business man selling things like maizes and you happen to have a good customer who sales his maizes abroad. are you going to tell that customer that you cannt sale your maize to him becoz you dont have an import and export licence. plse live Muvi TV alone oooo

  15. Its very unfortunate that our ministers issue statements which even themselves dont understand and cant explain. Kanshi finshi muchita that you are so much afraid of. Why do we always want to lag behind in the name of following stupid and good for nothing laws.

Thank God Shikapwasha was not nominated in November last year, at least Teta saved us.
Now i understand why Hon. Shikapwasha is regarded us being the most unpopular air commander Zambia has ever had. By the way did you notice that even his equal Hon. Mulongoti supported him – Aba bantu.

  16. These fools amaze me, why stop our local TV stations and allow all international stations to broadcast. This should tell us that our leaders are not there for us but themselves.

  17. What of internet? There must be a way to restrict this one also. Too much free flow information here, we can’t have that.

  18. Politicians should always remember that the interests of the people come first. Shikapwasha’s fear is that the world will now know the truth about Zambia. May we all rise and support Muvi TV against political vampires and embrace the value of the internet. I’m ashamed as a Zambian to have a minister of information who is allergic to new developments in the world and tries to justify his incompetence in the name of the law.

  19. This blog is full of shallow analysis and hatred, I can’t beleive it! The same characters who were saying privatising Zamtel will be a security risk are now supporting illegalities all because it gives them a platform to denounce government. Every licence has got conditions and what the General is saying is “stick to the conditions of your licence.” If Muvi TV wants to go nation wide they should apply for such a licence. Simple logic.

  20. Dictatorship at its best!!.Mr.Ndalama Bwezani Nkongole Banda has taken after his old late name sake ,Kamuzu Banda of Malawi;Pure Dictator with little respect to Human right.Shikapwasha is telling us all this nonsense because he is protecting his job and I want to challenge you pentecostals at BIGOCA,to explain to us what value you self-proclaimed Reveland has to Zambia and its citizens. This Man is scandalous, recently,he said that we Catholics are murderers,we kill everywhere,we killed in Rwanda and we want to bring war to Zambia.By God’s grace, despite all these insults, the Catholic Church hasnt staged in any protest or demostration, because the church knows that this Man,together with Chiluba & Mulongoti are finnished Wolf in Sheep skin trying to decieve the people.God is looking!.

  21. Bravo MUVI TV, Zambia is not Lusaka, it is strange, RDA is oloso active only in Lusaka,
yet the road where copper is transported, e.g Mufulira – Sabina, its like you are in DARFOUR

  22. Shikapwasha are you telling us that this limited broadcasting is only limited to TV stations? I put it to you that Radio Breeze, Yatsani,Flava,Yar, QFM and Icengelo are similary on limited frequencies as they are dubbed as Community Radio Stations(CRSs). Hey thanks to the Internet, man Iam loving listening to these stations wherever I am on the globe.
Do you understand the term Radio Streaming Minister? This Nullifies your thinking bwana.
Just tell me that you can’t cope with the latest trends in Broadcasting Technologies. Accept that you’re from the Old School and resign on moral grounds.
You are sons of a doomed Zambia. Change is inevitable please Understand your ICT policy and make necessary amendments to your ministry. Don’t be primitive bwana. I beg.

  23. It seems HON. Shikapwasha as a General is in the battle front in the war the Govt has waged against the private media. What is he scared of? We should have stations that can cover the whole world for us to be known. Some people think Zambia is a country somewhere near Jamaica or around the Carribean Islands. One day I was asked where I come from. When I said Zambia the man who was asking me responded saying Colombia?

  24. Lesa wabonse. Shikapwasha be a gentle man. Tell us did Teta jet in dead or alive but criticle, cargo or dying as you put it? its hard to concive that a so called MMD prominent figure like Teta could be brought back home secretly to the ICU and visitors banned. This is a typical Levy died in France weird story.
Will govt always postpone the official Date of Death (DOD) of its cabinet members? Is it a matter of National Security? Is it morally correct? Are we going to accept this? If a Doctor pronounced RLonnie dead today 7 th Sept 2009 Time: 17hrs. it is wrong for the Govt to postpone his death to some later date regardless of what is to be protected. Are you guys sons and daughters of the FATHER OF LIES? Zambians are not f.o.o.l.s

  25. Can someone help these people understand the diffrence between development and partisan politics. We all know why MMD does not want any other TV Broadcaster to go nationwide, it’s because this would work against them in elections. Remember they enjoy a rural majority rule. If they can allow MUVI for a lusaka license why not the whole country? especially that MUVI has been on air for over a year. Anyways may be that’s what it takes to be Zambian. Is this what being a peaceful nation means?

  26. Every licence has conditions, so if you don’t want to follow laid down conditions, try anarchy and you will go off waves. USA hacked down Ajazeera website when its interests where affected. So if Muvi does not want to follow laid down procedures, they would as well try and operate from Zimbabwe, so that we can get their signal, after all its borderless satelitte communication!

  27. But why Lsk only..? Maybe it’s about preventing the corruption of morals of out of town dwellers… or something like that.

  28. #28 Mupama Pamo,

I can’t agree more with you my fellow countryman. Perhaps it is a question of concentrated levels of short-term memory in some bloggers’ heads.

  29. Every thing is difficult pa ZED.Forming a company ,getting a loan and paying for it are all practical examples. The only easy thjng that a youth can easily acces is sex and alcohol

  30. Shikapwashya should keep quiet and concentrate on bigger issues. I wonder what Shikapwashya has done for his constitiency, Keembe? That area has been the same for the past 40 yearss or more. When you ,Shikapwashya, were elected as an MP, you promised heaven and earth for those poor Lenjes, and what have you done for them up today? Nothing. We hope these people will vote you out office. You seem to have run out of ideas and keep on chasing those that are trying to do some positive things. Your days are numbered.
