Weekend Scorecard

Share

Herve Renard is resigned to the fact that Zambia will not go to the World Cup in South Africa after losing 1-0 away to Algeria in their fourth Group C match in Blida on Sunday evening.

Renard told Algeria soccer site Lebuter that Algeria were not favorites to qualify to next June’s world Cup finals in South Africa.

“For me, we are already out of World Cup,”  Lebuter quoted Renard.

“The proof, you have only to re-examine the match.”

Renard however added that Zambia’s disallowed goal scored by Noah Chivuta was a clear goal and not converted from an offside position.

Zambia remain 3rd in Group C on 4 points, Egypt are 2nd on 7 points while Algeria lead on 10 points.

Rwanda stay rooted at the bottom of the table with 1 point from four Group C matches played.

  1. The refereez decizion, good or bad, will sometimez favour you and so there iz no need for crocodile tears. At one time I thought I “heard” Herve Renard say his prime objective waz to qualify Zambia to the Afrika Cup! Well… loox like that’s exactly what he iz going to do. Haven’t we been there one so many timez?

  2. I agree with Renard about the Noah Chivuta disallowed goal. That was ill luck for the team. The boys worked very hard and deserved something from that game. However the problem is not with the Coach or the boys.
The problem with Zambian football are the low standards football administration at the schools level and the local football league level.Until we sort out this problem,Zambian football will just be a hit or miss affair. We will just be depending on luck and the grace of god in our football campaigns.
Institutions like the mines which heavily contributed the development of soccer in the 70’s and 80’s are now gone and no one has bothered to think about an alternative to that. The funding, administration and infrastructure needs to be improved.Otherwise forget about success in football.

  3. Renard I hope you enjoyed your holiday in Zambia, now it’s time for you to pack your bags and go back home. You are not qualified to coach football.

  4. Just so everyone knows i want to make a correction; we have “NOT” failed or we are not out of qualiftication yet. Yes its a stretch and unlikely but its not head to head as stated by Zamfoot but goal aggregate this time around. Let me put all of you up to speed. The scenario for zambia to qualify is if Rwanda win in Algeria (unlikely) and we beat Egypt by atleast two goals (possible). Then it would go down to the final Day where it would be a three way race for most goals scored or Algeria needing at least a draw in Cairo (unlikely). So although we are most likely not making it never say never coz who knows Rwanda Still are in the reckoning for AFCON and may just put the fight of their lives in Blida for three points. Its a stretch but there is still a chance that the three teams all…
