Chief Nyawa of Kazungula district in Southern province has complained of lack of dialogue between him and Katombora Member of Parliament (MP), Regina Musokotwane.

The Chief charged that Mrs. Musokowane, of the United Party for National Development (UPND), had never found time to meet the chief to discuss issues of development in the area ever since she was elected as MP.

Chief Nyawa said this in a speech read for him by his spokesperson, Michael Mwaanga during the Guta Mwezebbwe Lwiindi Traditional Ceremony of the Toka-Leya people of his chiefdom over the weekend.

He further said a caring MP should be visiting people in her constituency so that issues of national development can be discussed.

However, Mrs. Musokotwane refuted allegations by the chief saying Chief Nyawa’s chiefdom is one of the areas she visits each time she is in her constituency.

She said it was wrong for Chief Nyawa to talk about her in public, adding that as a Member of Parliament, she can not talk about a chief through the press.

Mrs. Musokotwane said the chief has powers to call his MP, who is also his subject, to discuss matters of development whenever there is a problem instead of disclosing such matters at a public function.

I think the Chief has to be honest i think the chief could have been given some beer money from the MMD so as to show as though UPND is doing nothing i think if he has not been given a vehicle by government/MMD then he has been asured of one but for a price of which he has just mentioned. I think i do believe this MP. She is orginally from there there is no doubt that she goes there.

The mp needs to visit the people who elected her; if you donnot love people donnot force your self on them for some gain. because your true colours will show along the way

What development has the MP taken there? The Zimba-Nyawa road was last graded in 1975. The whole chiefdom has no network coverage. Water points are less than 20 in a chiefdom that is hundreds of square kms. The chief is right.
