The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has advised companies producing small alcohol sachets to distribute their products only to licensed alcohol dealers to avoid abuse of the substance.
Association Executive Director Muyunda Ililonga says there is need for companies to ensure that they supply their products to traders who are licensed to sale alcoholic beverages.
Mr Ililonga told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that restriction of the distribution of the sachets to licensed traders will go along way in reducing the abusive consumption of the beverage.
He expressed concern that the current trend were unlicensed agents are allowed to sale the alcoholic substances is worrying adding that it is contributing to alcohol abuse in the country
He explained that the decision by the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to grant operation licenses to the company is not an indication that people in the country to continue abusing the product.
He has also cautioned consumers against consuming the said alcohol without diluting as the trend has a serious impact on health.
The ZACA Executive Director further expressed concern that if the sachets continue to be sold by unlicensed dealers many more people will continue abusing the substance.
Mr Ililonga was reacting to the decision by the LCC to grant back an operation license to the company that produces the small alcoholic sachets commonly unknown as “Tujilijili”saying the company has met the regulation standards under the Zambia Bureau of standards.

Am sure these tujijili must be hardcore looking at the number of concerns they have generated in the country
Tujilijili tu mbuma or utu yebela, they knock the sense out of any one who tries them
Indeed it will reduce alcohol abuse if sold to licensed dealers
tujilijili tula bobola
I think Zambians (who drink tujilijili’s’) should change their mindsets and realise that their health is highly affected when they take these undiluted and the amount consumed is surely alarming. Most people that take these are the ones that cannot afford ‘normal’ drinks and the teenagers, its really sad
Mr. Ililonga for goodness sake, are u sure, in your right mindset, that these producers of Tujilijili will comply with such a directive? DO you realise that over 75% of Tujilijili consumers are people who cannot bother to walk into a decent bar and purchase a beer? Am sure most of you will agree with me that three quarters are call boys, Bakaponya, Minibus Drivers/Conductors etc, and to them convenience matters! They’ll simply walk up to make shift store buy, of they wen. EVen thr producers themselves, I question their authenticity coz even the phone number on that tujilijili sachet is not in use. The manufacturer has no contact details neither do they have physical address. So be assured that those licensed dealers you’re talking about, its as good as saying let things be the way they…
The major issue with tujilijili is that the they are affordable, period.
insala + tujilijili = madness
tujilijili twalicipa sana sana thats y therez abuse…so even if they sell them to licensed alcohol dealers pipo will stil be buying in bulk and continue abusing!!!
Tujilijili power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to taste this tujilijili,it’s brought so much talk the last few weeks.LOL
When Telecel and Zamcel came to Zambia, the cheapest airtime voucher was K10000, a sim card was costing K360,000 on Telecel network. Today the same is K4000 only. Why? Market shifting to the youth generation! Moral meaning, Pirare Rum was sold only in big bottles 750mls and only old pipo where buying and at intervals. The sachets, tujilijili are there for the youth generation just like talktime is there for tthe same generation. Very affordable and easy to carry. Pupils in class are now able to help themselves with tujiljili and all is well. THE ONLY TYPE OF REGULATION IS TO PUT A STOP TO MAKING THIS BEER IN SMALL VOLUMES AND GET BACK TO 750mls ONLY.

At high school in the 70s we used to have totapacs, but we never abused them to the level these tushishis are being abused. I remember at Shanabwato or Dambwa tarven in Stone town we would buy totapacs and put them in Chibuku. We would then board chi Lubono at 23:40 Hrs bound for the belt. By the time we got to Mazabuka in the morning, or heads wold still be spinning from the previous night. I am sure this is the side effcts of gloablisation. Pantu namaule yalyamba ukulanda ati, “Global yalimwikata.”

Rupiah wants to make our country drunk and accept the acquital of Ka Chiluba.
I still insist that tujilijili should be banned. If a person cannot afford the normal size of bukoko then they should not be drinking. Period!

How many brands are we going to have please? Who produces Tujilijili? we need more brands of food, not beer or hard drinks. we have enough brands already please.

For the sake of our friends out of zambia who dont know what tujilijili is, it is a sachet of about 50 to 100ml of alcohol and the alcoholic percentage ranges from 40 to 45 % in volume. for a perosn like me whose favourite beer is castle, i get happy when i am taking the 5th bottle, but when it comes to Tujilijili, 3 of them i am home and dry. I am sure u can see that they are very strong
Leave the poor man to have some fun , Life is tough with soya chucks
Fine people sont have money to go buy castle or mosi for them to get drunk but hear the health matters so much. This drink I understand is more like the no 1, the kind of drink mainly found in malawi and is imported to zambia by the so called licensec people. WHY WHY allow people to get KACHASU legally? This tujilijili, my brother says its the same as kachasu, it burns off your liver like hell. the after effects are disastrous. The advice to my fellow zambians is that if you are tired of living well and enjoy your life, go for TUJILIJILI. Enjoy a beer and not drink to kill yourself with this rubbish. alcoholic drink.
THE LATEST ABOUT THIS BEER WORRIESALOT OF PIPO BUT HENRY KAPATA SAID ITS OKAY TO DRINK THESE TUJILIJILI.
Lets start exporting it to Zimbabwe!!!
