Police hunt ‘moving coffin’ witchdoctor in Kaoma

Share

Police in Kaoma have launched a manhunt for a witchdoctor behind the moving coffins drama popularly known as Kikonde in local language.

The witchdoctor is said to have gone into hiding after realising that police might pounce on him after the latest event where mourners damaged the official GRZ vehicle belonging to Kaoma District Commissioner Kennedy Mubanga.

Mr Mubanga’s GRZ vehicle was damaged after he issued instructions to soldiers and police to ensure the coffin was buried.

The witchdoctor whose name is not known has been charging members of the public who want to have the coffin of a dead person direct them to the person suspected to have caused the death shortly before burial.

The witchdoctor charges between K1,500 and K5000 depending on whether relatives of the deceased wanted the coffin to move itself or direct pall bearers to the suspected witch.

This year alone, residents of Kaoma have witness five incidences of coffins containing dead bodies refusing to be burial before directing mourners to the suspected witch or wizard.

The development prompted Kaoma District Commissioner to call on the police and Zambia Army to force burial of the same.

Police launched a manhunt for the witchdoctor as they believed he was behind the riots that had been experienced in Kaoma District.

The police have since called on the members of the public to give information that would lead to the arrest of the witchdoctor.

  1. In Kaoma the coffins are provided with gps by the witchdoctor
Then they navigate their way to programmed targets. Very clever

    • Sheer primitive superstition being given undeserved coverage by LT. It should read ….”five incidents” not “five incidences” please LT. Incidence denotes a percentage or a ratio while incident is the event itself.

    • Can this direct them to Australia too? Will they need visa? How stup!d we people have become. Funny that it only targets people within the walk-able distance but wont travel to uk, russia, usa, or even to lusaka.

  2. Why is GRZ paying these illiterate chiefs for nothing ? These drunkard chiefs should be tought that such practices are retrogressive , knowledge they need to pass on to their subjects…

    • I personally do not see the benefit these chiefs have. During slavery, it was the same chiefs who sold their own people for mirrors, piece of clothes etc. For sure corruption in Africa is not a recent thing but a very old practice during and before slavery. I have no respect for these people who want other people to kneel for them.

  3. haha go to the village and start your awareness campaign we see if you will last, black magic is real people.

  4. Very retrogressive! We need his expertise in government departments to help identify plunderers. Let him start at Medical Stores and pump their tummies, whoever has stolen even a packet of Panadol must have his stomach inflated, including those who stole from the sale of companies

  5. It sounds backward because of the procedures involved. Once in this country we had a company that started producing soft drinks from Masukus and we cried loud that we were missing something – civilisation. To me what brings about real civilisation is by being curious and innovative. This is the reason l shall ever respect who ever discovered ‘chikanda’. What am l saying, do not rush to condemn. think, think, think !!!! Where are the social scientists? How best can we take advantage of this ‘vodo’ thing to draw good from it. Is there any thing that can be used apart from human blood? Come up with some theory please. This is how we have lost on Sondashi formula. But Chinese come here to take our munsokansoka and bring back herbal medicine!!!!!

    • You are pretending to make an intelligent contribution but its all hogwash. Masuku? Voodoo? Human blood? What is the thread?

  6. The church needs to do more in Western Province because this isn’t an isolated incident. What we need is to save lives and not to wait for somebody to die then we cause havoc. That’s not correct. Sometimes innocent people suffer under these spells of witchcraft. Karavinas are hired to shoot and kill suspected witches and there’s for foolproof formula for telling whether indeed somebody is guilty or not. That’s what’s retrogressive and widely practiced in that part of Zambia. In some places there have been reports of people beating medical staff because they believe that they may have contributed to the death of their relative. We need to demystify death, that’s where the church comes in

  8. There is a difference between Voodoo and witchcraft,,, Voodoo is a religion mostly found in West Africa whilst Witchcraft is just a practice which involves the use of our inner energy and the the energy in herbs and crystals,, it just involves someone playing around with different energy levels from different elements,, in what many are calling civilisation we have seen transformation of different cultures moving with time,, from Clay to translucent cups,, what are we doing with our own civilisation? are we always going to live in someone civilisation? when are we going to make our own civilisation?? the bottom line is Witchcraft is just a form of science which we have failed to grasp up to now,,

  9. Here we come claiming to be a Christian country. Very sad that we do not know where we belong, science, traditional or Christianity. The choice is yours….

  10. Always interesting how we are quick to always throw in the church and Christianity. Always shutting our eyes in everything and hoping it would just go away.

Say what you want to say. Be honest with yourself, clear your mind of religion and you will see that there is so much going on and the sooner we start accepting certain issues the sooner we eradicate them permanently. These are practices older than our knowledge of our imported religion.

I know most will not understand what I have said but some shall.
