The Medical Council of Zambia (MCZ) has threatened to close down all Anti- Retro viral Therapy (ART) sites in the country that are not assessed or accredited to the Medical Council of Zambia.
Medical Council of Zambia Registrar Mary Zulu says the council will ensure that all ART sites operating in the country get assessed and accredited.
Dr. Zulu sounded the warning in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday. She said assessing and accrediting the centers by the council would help in the provision of quality health services in the country.
Dr. Zulu said getting assessed and accredited to the MCZ is an imperative and cardinal requirement for all ART sites.
She said MCZ was doing everything possible to educate and sensitise ART site operators in the country on the importance of getting assessed and accredited to MCZ.
Of the 444 ART sites in the country, only 83 were accredited and 240 had been assessed by MCZ as at June 30, 2009.
