The Burundian government boycotted the 20th summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) that took place last week Lusaka, calling it “illegal”.

Deputy-spokesman of the Burundian President Alain Diomede Nzeyimana was quoted on Radio Isanganiro as saying that the COMESA summit was relocated to Lusaka from Burundian capital Bujumbura without sound reasons.

“The relocation should have been decided by three presidents of Burundi, Ethiopia and Madagascar, members of the Bureau of the COMESA heads of state summit, but it had not been the case,” he said.
Mr. Nzeyimana underlined that participants in the two-day summit went to Lusaka for their “personal” interests as COMESA gets over 50 percent of its funding from the European Union (EU).

The Burundian government has written to the COMESA secretariat, requesting a refund of the money used for preparing to host the summit and compensation, he said.

Burundi will “not acknowledge” conclusions and resolutions from the Lusaka summit, he added.

In May, Comesa secretariat decided to relocate its 20th summit that had been planned to take place in Burundi earlier in June.

The Burundian government said the decision to relocate the venue of the Comesa summit was a “lack of respect” to a sovereign state.

The Comesa secretariat later relocated the summit to Lusaka, where its headquartered.

  1. Only them of the so many members are calling it illegal, what shame. Do these guys know about paradigms? How you see it may be different to how I look at it. No wonder we have democracy to have more than one understanding or indeed the way we look at things. Finally it is the majority who are considered winners regardless of whether you like it or not. So I say shut up complaint!

  2. it’s believed that a certain tribe in Zambia originated from Burundi. hence the arrogance, they know it all and full of themselves. they never accept defeat even when they come third best.

    • Which tribe is that which is close to Burundi? Looks like it just crossed lake Tanganyikw hence the arrogance

    • Some people who earn a living by being hangers-on hate this tribe o death. It’s the way Hitler hated the Jews for their natural flare to productivity. This tribesmen Zambia does not even talk as much but it’s mere existence threatens everyone. Think of how Rwanda tried to exterminate a tribe only to find that, though small, had deeper business acumen….straightforward and non corrupt.

  3. “Moved without reason ” Really? Sir you know the reason but don’t want to admit it. The violence in your country against the citizens has reached unacceptable levels that’s the reason.

    • Pierre Nkurunziza president and his pastor first lady are the illegal leaders of Burundi. It is always the crazy ones, that deny their people democracy ( UPND no convention, and Ida Odinga of Kenya ) that want to cry foul when other are winning. They are going to be left in the dust as other nations develop.

    • That is the reason you have retrogressed in all your attempts to excel. This is about COMESA, how does UPND come in. No wonder Zambia is in reverse gear economically. Such mindsets cannot be entrusted with power. Can’t you think straight for once?

  5. HH you are very powerful. Instead of people talking about Burundi they are talking about HH. Nearly every day you (HH) you do receive insults from PF cadres.

  6. When is PF going for convention. What does the Constitution say. Ba Sampa from president to begger. Impiya ni Satan ukufukama na my church mulafilwa ukufukama. Ukokwine ku Lusaka eko mwingapita
