GOOD WORK though the design of SOME sections of the building look outdated, e.g the shape of the Admin Block! At some stage we will need an Audit of the entire project as there are many stories about this project that have circulated bordering on embezzlement!
The design is not worth $360 million. The architecture is below par.
Wait until the cadres and kaponya politicians move in you will be shoked!
The terminal building is rather small, this does not compare to airports like Jomo Kenya, OT or even Bole.
Those Chinese signs must be taken down immediately….., this is so embarassing!

Beautiful unique modern and eye catching. We’ll done Zambia! Very easily 1 of the most beautiful structures not only in Zambia but rest of Africa. I wouldn’t be surprised if voted most beautiful airport terminal in Africa once operational. I look forward to sampling & enjoying this facility & to holding my head up when receiving visitors from abroad. Most of all I look forward to return of Zambia Airways, other major airlines & to multitudes of tourist to sample our beautiful country. God Bless Zambia
maloza – Docile Zambians wouldn’t mind even if its quoted at $500million as they only feel it when the loans are due.
That first picture …one wouldn’t tell whether the construction project is in China or Zambia with such signage!!
Ive just googl.ed images of Blaise Diagne International Airport in Senegal.
I can confirm, tu na ti gon’ga tu ma choncholee.
Actually Bwembya Chikwanda, son to ex-finance minister Alexander Chikwanda, recently dubiously connived with chinese to reduce the scope & increase price of this project. Dont be dwanzy, sleepy & docile u zambians.
Wonderful works, instead of just being arm chair critics we have brains in our country come out and do wonders instead of just criticising whatever the government is doing, if you critics feel that you can do a better job than what is displayed above please come out and convince the government that you are equal to the task and offer reasonable quotations and save money for other economic development. Otherwise thumbs up PF government for the job well done. Am a patriotic Zambian.

How do you go on a construction site with slip-on shoes ..please lets uphold Health & Safety regulations especially on GRZ construction sites!!!
Very nasty design
@Webster Chanda, Zambian companies do not have a chance of winning any tenders. They do not have the brown envelopes to deliver in the evenings……
HaNEgatives!
it looks like a white elephant once completed.
very poor design n workmanship.
it doesn’t warrant $360 million dollars….
And you are not worthy a penny with your loser Under Five.
Nice Chinese welcome board
A PROFOUND MESSAGE??
Do we really need Chinese welcome message at the entrance? Lets label properly
Clear lack of Health and Safety procedures( iin regards to proper signage) in place in these construction sites …GRZ should lead by example!!
Animo Farm Hatribes Utd. HaNegatives.
so the Zambian governemnet cannot come up with a proper design than those outdated ones.. what is CBU and UNZA for if we cannot do this?
$370 million in ngongole….Some fool says that it will increase air traffic to Zambia. What is there to see in Lusaka…Prostitutes and Chinese buying all the land.
kiki what zambia are you talking about? no such country exists under the PF. You mean chimbia.. the new chinese zambia.. This country has been sold to the chinese and anyone willing to oil the pockets of greedy pf thugs. Yasila zambia. HH is trying to get our country back and we need to support this true son of the soil. Lungu’s zambian heritage is very questionable and it reflects in his policies which dont seek to put zambians first

Just go and eat mabisi with your swiss girl friend
U5 will never rule Zambia. Have you read mwanawasa memoirs
Comment:good job…but why do we have Chinese prints….that’s not a good sign of ownership

Poorly designed terminal looks like an ugly overgrown mushroom. That excessive overhang material could’ve gone to create a more spacious interior with a better visual harmony of the exterior. Also the admin building is not in a good vantage point where authorities can have 360 degree view for effective oversight and supervision of airport operations.
This what you get from signing these EXIM bank loan contracts …everything is from China, paying for outdated designs delivered with outdated techniques at first rate prices ….and I am talking for a professional point of view!!
*…from….
Let’s develop this thing! It is jealous Hagain but it will NEVER be president. “He who does not give praise is a son of a witch,” goes an adage.
Looks good, but make sure systems are put in place to maintain it. Please, do not allow Chinese writing on any part of the building, whether translated or not.

The shopping mall looks like a cathedral
Good work but those inscriptions are not necessary , if they were contracted to do the job then that airport doesnt belong to them however that is their mark on zambia .
My desire is to see zambians designing their own structures , zambia is nolonger a baby in nappies.
We know China is building malls, stadiums and airports but do we really need Chinese prints on all the buildings? when did we start reading Chinese in Zambia. Awe kwena sure pa zed mwe
Can an independent valuer preferbly a foreign entity come and value this thing.$360 million are you sure? This is another scandal waiting to be unravelled. When PF goes all these projects should be evaluated…..
This is what you get from corrupt EXIM Bank contracts …nothing but debt..look at Sengal’s $575 million Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Dakar…look at the facilities on offer for that money everything is done by the best in the business not rubbish Chink copy and paste products.
I do not know where you did your finance, but $360m does not build you that shack. For that kind of money, that building should have been completed within 1 year. An airport is not a hotel and is basically a building with shops, why has this taken long and cost a lot of money? This building is worth $150m at most. People lose appreciation for development when costs are inflated. This is very sad.
St. Sweet Angus – My dear friend you are wasting you time with such critique especially on such a platform …they will accuse you of being a busy fooool from UPND…when you are presenting a project of this nature, the first thing people want to hear is passengers it will handle in a year, how many aircraft it will handle at a given moment( is it able to handle A380), are there any transport links to the airport to the city, Duty free shopping, runways, car-parking facilities, cargo handling etc.
This building will be revisited again after 5 years for expansion…
This is what we get from Corrupt Hakainde and his TTONGA warriors- Negatives.
There is no unifying theme on the various building types (Terminal Building, Mall and Admin Block) making the whole thing look a little like a dog’s breakfast. The Admin Block is the most disjointed of all and lacks character. It looks a lot like a 1950’s post-war jerry-built laboratory. One truism about architecture is that good design cannot be replaced with miles and miles of glass and aluminium cladding. Is it worth the price tag? Most certainly not. Next time please take the time to properly caption all the photos.
When you sign EXIM Bank contracts …you sit on your hands and the Chinese do everything for you all you do is sweep and pay back with interest the rubbish the build even if the labeling is in mandarin..
The design is nasty. Great job though. At least we have graduated from a “VILLAGE AIRPORT ” that has POTHOLES on the run way.
Tribal.
It is an insult to Zambia’s sovereignty to have Chinese inscriptions on our national airport.Mandarin is NOT a recognized official language in Zambia and I would suppose it would take an act of parliament to change that. Could government please clarify or explain why this is allowed. If we have been sold to China they should let us know so that we know who to pay homage to- President Jinpeng and not president Lungu.
Yes remove Chinese inscriptions. It is even better to write them in Bemba
How is this an insult when you have the colonial language of english on that same space and you don’t call that an insult?
Well done our one and only Edgar Chagwa Lungu. You are great
He borrowed money for an overpriced substandard project…he wont even afford to payback…good job indeed.
Beautiful. We have done well for ourselves and our leaders.
Keep the old building as a museum or something along those lines or convert to a hotel, but keep the exterior looking as is now.
With big Chinese label on the entry….telling us if you fail pay back the loan this is ours….they see the future Africans cant
Going by most of the comments above, does it mean this is not a good step in the right direction? I like @1. comment. He or She first appreciates the efforts being made, then also highlights the concerns about those using the project to engage in corrupt practices. No Zambian regardless of their political affiliation should support corruption. Our condemnation of corruption should not be based on which party is in power but the act. Thats why corruption, lack of respect for party constitutions etc by both the ruling party and opposition should be condemned. Opposition parties should hold transparent elections,be seen to respect their party constitution and not engage in corruption of any sort in order to demonstrate why they are a better option.
Never base judgement on social media

What is “Looks of.”???
Is this Airport in China?
This airport is in China. I am not sure when it will be brought to Zambia. Its all Chinese or Japanese characters. Kaya.
I have seen bigger structures of airports at half the price we are being told here.
Ukawalala eeeeiiiiisssshhhhhhhh. Now they are hammering the police for trying to be equal to them. Dont eat from where I eat from so the bosses will always say. Chikomela galu …
Disaster!!!!!
What does the sign written in Chinese say?
It says you are docile gullible fooools!!
“looks of” is a Zambian creation meaning ‘pictures of’. If you can’t remember what the teacher said in grade 9 you invent your own phrase
Not impressive.
Who designed this excuse of airport structures?
What a horrible airport design.. with funny foreign writing on it.
In future we must demolish it, and then gather together the best designers Zambia can produce to come up with a design which is artistically unique to us and authentic, unlike this sh**ty Chinese monument which will probably exist there in Lusaka for as long as this upcoming Chinese colonisation of Zambia will last for.
Its the same dated designs with Chinese buildings all to benefit Chinese manufacturing the cladding and the windows…its no wonder the Chinese State companies are setting up bases to manufacture this type of material in Chongwe so they can construct a lot of these buildings which look like tombs around Africa when the world has moved on in architectural design.
Why are we seeing Chinese here? I thought the official language in Zambia is English. Who is that meant for? Maybe the Chinese have taken over the country?
Its probably worth only $10m and not $360m
Probably the crook of privatisation store the money from your wallet and from Zambians.
“82% New…” I don’t know wher you make the current group of writers! They don’t make them the same way as we were made. Shame! 82%, 82%, 82%, of what?
just a waste of money. The current airport activities dont justify the costs of this building in any way. Its more a prestige project than a needed project.
Other countries in Africa upgraded or built new airports a long time ago (e.g. Zimbabwe) This project was mooted a long time ago, including discussions for sourcing the funding. I don’t know whether this was the original cost and design envisaged. In my opinion, the current aviation climate should have just necessitated us to upgrade the airport to modern standards and facilities (probably at half the cost) than build a new one that is in danger of being a white elephant. It’s not the structure that will bring the passengers, its what you have, for them to come to the country.
I’d come to Zambia by way of a corrugated iron shack if I thought it would help, but bearing in mind most people’s expectations that probably isn’t an option any more. I just hope ordinary Zambians see some benefit from this; I feel Zambia deserves much more in the way of tourism and maybe this will help/
