Mwepu was conspicuously missing from Zambia’s starting XI of their stuttering 1-1 away draw in Windhoek that saw both sides collect their first points in Group K after two rounds of matches played.
He replaced Salulani Phiri in the 83rd minute of the match with Zambia trailing 1-0 after Benson Shilongo had put Namibia ahead in the 78th minute before Justin Shonga equalized in stoppage time for the visitors.
“Because he travelled on Monday that’s one small reason. He came later than the other boys but also because of the artificial pitch (we played on),” Vandenbroeck said.
But Mwepu had traveled from his Austrian base last Monday to Chipolopolo’s transit camp in Johannesburg together with his RB Salzburg club mate and striker Patson Daka who started the match and was later replaced by Shonga in the last ten minutes of the match.
“But the main reasons is because of the artificial pitch and keeping the two holding midfielders not to leave space spaces between our central defense and central midfielders,” Vandenbroeck said.
He doesn’t need to explain to anyone enock has shown what is his true value. Only next game will the have to explain if he does the same.
people think that because you are based abroad then you are guaranteed a starting place in zambia,
They are many local players who are better than the ones playing abroad.
Mwepu is good but there maybe someone better locally

Apunzila. He will do better next time. Kabaso Chongo was brilliant in defense. Shonga, Mwepu, Lubambo have the spark to make any defender panic. Salulani Phiri is also quiet tough! We have a solid team…its up to the coach to understand the formations.
Maybe we should get a Chinese Coach. They seem to be doing everything for us. I was shocked to see a China man putting up a billboard on great east road. Ba PF please reserve some jobs for Zambians. We can not have Chinese pushing Wheelbarrows, rearing chickens and competing with our poor mothers at Soweto market. We welcome investment from areas that we do not have the expertise. This how slave trade and colonialism started by having heartless leaders.
We have a team , no doubt about it. It was a first game for the coach, he is still getting to know what each player brings into the game. The most important thing the coach has done is to open doors. He now has plenty of players available to select from. This is what you need for a team like Zambia which has rich resources in players plying their trades at home and abroad, and I mean – not bench warmers!! From the rich Zambian league to the Austrian Bundesliga, Belgian , US, Russian, Armenian, Chinese, Arabian, South African, DRC, Tanzanian.
There are few times when players have been this abundant at high level. Perhaps the big question is, are we resolved to achieve something with this? I think there is more talent now than when we won the Africa cup
Coach owes no explanation to any one. He plays who he feels. I heard some misguided announcer on radio phoenix today asking why this and that player was omitted. There is only one coach.
The coach owes all the Zambia tax payers an explanation for everything he does. Unless you do not pay tax and do not understand how this coach’s generated, then he does not owe you any explanation. People that are claiming that it was his first game equally misguided. All this coach needed to do is watch current an previous game for all these players because that is what he is paid to do.

Imagine?I have never seen Mwepu play live,all i have seen of him is on TV,i am not a coach and most of the people commenting here are not coaches but it appears unanimous that Mwepu should only be on the bench for good reason.Then you have people even debating this clear blunder?In my view the coach may not be competent.Didnt he have access to videos of previous games?This is like Argentina benching Maradona for 80 minutes because the coach is new or whatever reason,when the player is fit…

Yes we need to work hard especially on scoring, I still feel Mbesuma can perform better.
