President Edgar Lungu has arrived in New York, United States of America (USA) for the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which officially opened on Tuesday last week.

President Lungu has joined other global leaders gathering in New York to discuss issues of global significance.

The Head of State arrived at New York’s Teterboro International Airport at 07:30 hours local time and was received by Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Lazarous Kapambwe and Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States Dr Ngosa Simbyakula.

President Lungu is accompanied by State House Minister Freedom Sikazwe, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda, his Special Assistant for Political Affairs Kaizar Zulu, Special Assistant for Economics and Development Affairs Hibeene Mwiinga and other senior government officials.

The President was welcomed at the Palace Hotel by his advance delegation to the 73rd General Assembly, which includes Foreign Affairs Minister, Joe Malanji, Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya, Minister of National Development and Planning Alexander Chiteme and Gender Minister Elizabeth Phiri.

The 73rd UN General Assembly will be the most highly attended summit as it will see all the 193 Member States and three Observer States address at the global annual summit of leaders.

The summit will be preceded by a high level plenary meeting called the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit on Monday at which, Heads of State and Government are expected to address the General Assembly on the need for global peace.

President Lungu’s participation in the Mandela Peace Summit is of added significance both because of the active role Zambia played in the struggle against apartheid and the release of Nelson Mandela as well as hosting the headquarters of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa for which Mr Mandela was leader until his imprisonment in 1962 and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The theme of the 73rd General Assembly is: “Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.”

This statement was released to the media by Mr Wallen Simwaka, the First Secretary (Press) Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations

  1. My beautiful swiss wife and I have decided to try for another baby after our two children have made it to higher education abroad and are now on their two feet. I love my wife and I cant ever imagine sharing my life with anyone else. I just fear bringing my kids up under the rule of thieves and thugs such as lungu and friends. I will never forgive myself if my kids lead a life of struggle just because of the debts accrued by these greedy Dlckheads. LUNGU SHOULD DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND FORGET TO COME BACK OR BETTER STILL THE PLAN SHOULD CRASH OVER GABON

    • He can stay in NY for as long as he wants the only issue is that he is living us with someone who isn’t any better and knows no better. It’s a shame this lot ….I am wondering what is the role of some of these people on his delegation just blowing our money?? I am sure they have chartered again 🙁

    • – TZ president Magufuli with a stable economy, used commercial plane with only 4 pipo on his delegation.
      – Lungu with only $300million foreign reserves left at BOZ, no money to pay fuel importers & a tumbling kwacha, used a leased private jet with a huge advance party & huge delegation. Even his trip to China had a huuuge advance party & delegation on a hired private jet.

Sata made a huge mistake to leave us with this careless playboy.

  2. How much are Lungu’s constant & expensive trips with huge delegations adding to GRZ expenditure and the huge Zambian debt?

  3. “…President Lungu’s participation in the Mandela Peace Summit is of added significance both because of the active role Zambia played in the struggle against apartheid and the release of Nelson Mandela as well as hosting the headquarters of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa for which Mr Mandela was leader until his imprisonment in 1962 and sentenced to life imprisonment….”

What a load of rubbish……People are not being paid on time in Zambia yet you are spending more than $1million on a useless trip ????
    Theives….

  4. Just think endless possibilities if lazy bum Lungu had not taken this trip; the missing social cash transfer money would have been re imbursed, pensioners would have been pain, government contractors would have been cleared, civil servants would have got their salaries on time, medical stores would have had good stock of medicines,,,, sorry unable to go on, my typing fingers have got cramps! Someone to take over

    • Lazy bum illiterate tribal hooligan bully son of a tribal polygamist father who never taught his son toilet training needing a diaper like my little child HAGAIN pooping in public HAGAIN. “The President is not Tonga, so I cannot support him,” Larry Mmeetwa.

  5. Yes mumba JR when you squeeze your chance to shake lungus hand ask him why he does not deny allegations that he is a corrupt theif …..?

  6. Lungu and his group are there specifically for allowances and nothing else. He has no interest in whatever is taking place. From there he Will sneak to go out and dip his lips in New York brewed tequila and dance away the night. Talk of a childish man!

  7. Reports are that he has declined interviews from BBC, CNN and Affica Confidential saying he has enough journalists from ZNBC. He has again lost an opportunity to wash his name. call it dullness.

    • It’s not dullness , lungu is a theif and won’t be able to face dome questions, like how his personal account grew to $2 million from almost nothing after 21 months in office…

    • Why would Lungu not avoid the media while in New York when he knows very well that the journalists are real professionals who have clout and are not timid when it comes to asking hard questions to whom ever and they are well versed in the substance of their questions! By the way for most media professionals, journalism is a secondary subject of qualification

This level of reporting is really sickening… you are really obsessed with him, you might as well start telling us when he is going to the toilet. It is no wonder this country will never develop and progress… you report non issues because you treat him like a 100BC emperor. Unbelievable!

  9. Mr Hibeene Mwiinga is a wise and learned man who is enjoying Govnt money unlike several people from the south who are stuck to Kainde like ticks for nothing. Why being royal to Kainde who wont even buy you a tissue?open your eyes guys and work with ECL who always wants to work with all well meaning Zambians!!!

    • For you its all about money greed and looting the few resources, for most of us its about integrity and a corrupt free government.

    • This is one of the most corrupt rats on LT.

He was the one who told us he sees nothing wrong with lungu having $100 million in his personal account.

He is the one who told us that because lungu dresses very well , he is a better leader than all the opposition…..

He is the one who told us it rains money around lungu, while people were dying of cholera….

  10. Teterboro International Airport, huh? So he traveled by chartered aircraft. So much for austerity. The president cannot possibly deign to take a commercial flight to JFK.

  11. Lungu is a serious waste to the Zambian people. What a clueless Person as president on issues of governance!
    SHAME ON EDGAR LUNGU.
