A high-level Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) delegation led by chairperson, Justice Esau Chulu is in Ankara to learn and share best practices in management of the electoral process from Turkey’s electoral body, the Supreme Election Council.

Justice Chulu and his Turkish counterpart, Sadi Guven are expected to discuss issues related to capacity building and institution to institution co-operation between ECZ and the 11-member Supreme Election Council of Turkey.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, Dr Joseph Chilengi at the Zambian Chancery in Ankara today, Justice Chulu said the study tour comes at an opportune time for the Commission to learn and share best practices with the Supreme Election Council.

Mr Justice Chulu further said ECZ hoped to develop a platform for information exchange with the Supreme Election Council.

And Ambassador Chilengi said Zambia is proud of its impeccable record of holding credible, free and fair elections and has been a model of peace and stability on the African continent.

Dr Chilengi also said the general elections held in Turkey on June 24, 2018 are a demonstration that the country upholds democratic tenets by ensuring citizens participate in the governance of the country, through elections

He expressed happiness that Supreme Election Council was willing to provide capacity building to ECZ in various areas of election management.

Dr Chilengi urged ECZ to take advantage of Turkey’s advancement in various areas of election management and learn best practices.

The delegation is in Turkey at the invitation of the Supreme Election Council.

Turkey has over 60 million registered voters.

    • It is always good to learn from one another and expand knowledge. The H-organisation of TRIBALISM is stuck in the past that is why it HALLUCINATES at everything H-appening H-around it! It sees “Pre-Marked ballot papers” in every truck entering Zambia and its H-Animo Farm cadres Ha deployed to stop such innocent vehicles because of Mental disease of suspicion and and Hallucination. Ba Mental.

    • Erdo?an of turkey only knows one thing accusing and arresting his political opponents of trying to overthrow him. Do they even hold elections in Turkey or it’s something similar to what happened at mulungushi rock in kabwe

  1. This government is not serious.

What best practices can we surely learn from Turkey? Seriously??

Who is paying for this trip?

Citizens are being taken for granted again.

    This behaviour is criminal.

The austerity measures are only targeted on the poor.

  2. What is this obsession with Tyrannical Turkey? Journalists are sent to learn from Turkey, government sends delegations to Turkey, now we are sending our electoral commission to learn what from these undemocratic dictators? How to rig an election?

  3. Reports of vote rigging and actual finding of boxes stuffed with fake votes have characterised the elections in Turkey – especially over the last two elections. You cannot also ignore the heavy handedness and unpopular anti-democratic tendencies of the President. It would appear that such scenarios always attract the Zambian regime – they have now quickly dispatched the electrol commission there. To learn what?

  4. Lungu is taking Zambians for granted. Do we really need firing squads to stop these people from turning this country into a personal to holder for Lungu? Why are we so docile? Why is Lungu doing this?

  5. Police is coming from a dictatorship in Turkey. They also want to borrow from that country. What good electoral practices are in Turkey? This really hurts

  6. I am growing more and more stupefied – either there is outrageous impunity going on or we are facing an identity crisis. Imagine a 50-year old man always going to the neighbors to ask for condiments to cook his meal, or advice on how to clean his toilet. Now replace that with a country…

  7. Learn from turkey, hehhehehehehe..kikikikikikikikikik..tel me this is a joke…joke of the year better than the visit we made to kenye to learn how to fight corruption. hehehehe

  8. If ECZ wants to conduct credible elections they must listen to the Zambians who take part in the electoral process. They don’t need to go to Turkey, why do we always want to learn from others? We know what we want! However, this is the MMD’s way of doing things. They are laying ground for Turkish companies to play a major role in our elections, eventually there will be a major contract that this visit will justify. Many people come out of elections smiling irrespective of the winner because they make so much money out of the electoral process. You don’t need to have a CV as that of Victor Mwamba to smell corruption in its infancy, this visit stinks

  9. Ain’t that something.. learn from everyone else but the Zambian people who endure all manner of hardships.. Very interesting!!
Please leaders, have a heart to listen to what people want and respect their views.. have a conscience..
