And The Ministry has implored institutions, officers and learners dealing with examinations at various levels to exercise the highest levels of professionalism, morality and ethics in their conduct.

In a statement issued to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka today, Acting Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Elizabeth Phiri pointed out that it should always be remembered that dishonest does not pay.

“Schools should be places where in the words of Michelle Obama ‘We learn about honesty and integrity ,that the truth matters, that you do not take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules and success does not count unless you earn it fair and square,” she explained.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE REPORTED EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES

The Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs wishes to express great concern on the reported examination malpractices which have led to the suspensions of the 2018 Grade Twelve, Nine and Seven examinations and cancellation of the Grade Nine Mathematics Examination Paper.

The Ministry wishes to implore institutions, officers and learners dealing with examinations at various levels to exercise the highest levels of professionalism, morality and ethics in their conduct. It should always be remembered that dishonest does not pay, but ‘No legacy is so rich as honesty’ William Shakespeare.

Schools should be places where in the words of Michelle Obama ‘We learn about honesty and integrity – that the truth matters… that you don’t take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules… and success doesn’t count unless you earn it fair and square’. If we train our pupils well and if the teachers are honest, which is one of the core values of their profession then our country will truly stand tall among other nations for ‘Honest citizens are the big reasons behind the development of any nation’ Vijay Sharma July 22, 2016.

At the entrance Gate of University in Uganda, the following message was posted for contemplation: destroying any nation does not require the use of atomic bombs or the use of long range missiles. It only requires lowering the quality of education and allowing cheating in the examinations by the students.

Patients die at the hands of such doctors, buildings collapse at the hands of such engineers, money is lost at the hands of such Economists and Accountants, Humanity dies at the hands of such religious scholars, Justice is lost at the hands of such Judges …. The collapse of Education is the collapse of the nation.” Indeed this is also a point of reflection for Zambians.

Notwithstanding the implications of suspending and cancelling examinations, the Ministry of General Education should be applauded for taking such measures to address the situation.

The Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs wishes to encourage officers in public and private institutions to take their responsibilities seriously and handle them with integrity

Hon Mrs. Elizabeth Phiri, MP

  3. This ministry should be closed down, a total waste of public funds which could be channelled for useful purposes ……. do we really need this ministry.

  4. Please don’t involve Michelle Obama in your madness. Advocate to shut down that useless Ministry you are representing, in this Government, then we will pay attention to you. You all represent a bad Government, no matter how well you articulate situations because “Birds of a feather, flock together”. You cant run away from this corruption while still serving Government. Hats off to Harry Kalaba, he had the guts to step down. You madam Phiri and Dora Siliya are the same…think about that!

  5. Please add Proverbs 29:18 which says: Where there is no VISION, people perish! A president buys a Luxury presidential Jet at over $70million when hospitals have not received grants and medical supplies since June 2018. No Vision! The decade to repay Eurobond is fast approaching but there is no rational plan to avoid a default. No Vision! Zambia is certain to default on Eurobonds in 2022, 2024, and 2027. The effects of these bonds will be felt beyond 2050! You need a leader and a people with VISION to foresee that and avert disaster! Visionless leaders are a product of visionless citizens! This is the end of the road for the once mighty Zed! Mwabombeni batata ba Chagwa!

  6. The irrelevant ministry now that day of prayer is over they are trying to make themselves relevant by commenting on every issue that comes in public domain.

  7. And The Ministry has implored institutions, officers and learners dealing with examinations at various levels to exercise the highest levels of professionalism, morality and ethics in their conduct.
Utter rubbish. Who should exercise the highest levels of professionalism morality and blabla blabla nonsense. How much do you teachers get at the monthend. Dont you think you owe these teachers more than you are waffling. Dont you think you are putting high or top secret documents in the hands of the hungry people. Mind you there is cash in leakages and that what you should be working on.
    Disaster!!!!!!

  8. Exam cheating is not different from rigging elections. Same difference. The chickens are just coming home to roost! Mulifikopo kwena- why didn’t you see the impact of your cheating in elections: both vices destroy the nation.

  9. This ministry has no relevance…there are pastors already in our country why this ministry which can not even direct people… madam comment on the happening in your ministry …what is it that goes on there??? Do you monitor churches or what? We are able to see what some ministries do not your ministry….Tamubomba mayo … waste of resources

  10. Comment: I dont see the reason why the minster should suspend the exams for all levels ..coz itx only the grade nine mathematics paper 2 which leaked out
