Sesheke Member of Parliament Frank Kufakwandi has died in South Africa where he was being treated for a Cardiac condition.
Government evacuated Mr. Kufwakwandi last month and he has been receiving specialist treatment at Arwyp Medical Centre in Johannesburg.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed that Mr. Kufwakwandi died in the early hours of Monday adding that his wife Mrs. Masiliso Kufwakwandi was at the bedside.
Mr. Mwamba said Mr. Kufwakwandi was among Zambian patients evacuated by government to receive specialised treatment in South Africa.
He said he had visited Mr. Kufwakwandi several times at the Hospital and was saddened by his passing as government had hoped that he would overcome his illness.
Mr. Mwamba said details regarding the repatriation of the body will be communicated later.
Mr. Kufwakwandi was the Member of Parliament for Sesheke on the Opposition ticket, the United Party for National Development.

So he was taken to South Africa for treatment by the PF government and upnd was quite about it, they never even thanked the government for flying their mp to SA. If the PF government had not taken him hh would have been the first one to point his fingers at the government and cry like a baby. Upnd is a cult party who never know how to appreciate the good but always looking for negatives to gain political mileage. Shame on you upnd. Another seat goes to PF.

People are dying in foreign countries in search of medical treatment, our men in power are buying jets instead of creating healthy conditions for Zambians so that they are treated at home by Zambians.

@Musonda Kateule, govt uses people’s money (this man’s money) to send these people to South Africa. It is not PF money, please get it in your thick skull. Government is merely a custodian of the people’s money and resources, in a similar way bankers do look after people’s money. They are not doing anyone a favour for them to be thanked, that is their duty and responsibility.
In any case this just highlights the recklessness of this govt for failing to provide good medical care and services back home. Are they going to be evacuating every sick Zambian to South Africa and India? Where will the money come from?

There can never be a thumbs up for government evacuating notable Zambian patients to RSA let alone to any country for treatment when the majority poor Zambians die needlessly in Zambian hospitals without medicines or medical equipment s. Zambia has enough specialised doctors to treat most ailments within the country. All they need is availability of medicines and equipment s. Late president Sata was being attended to by a Zambian doctor and nursing staff while here in the UK. That’s how we knew here Sata was in the UK for treatment when PF government was hiding that Sata was in India. PF like all other governments should just improve health/hospital management to avail all Zambians better medical facilities not OTHERS being evacuated while majority poor can not even be checked for blood…
@MunaDekhane, I think you have been away from Zambia for too long. Whether these politicians get evacuated to RSA, India, UK etc, when the grim reaper is at their door there is not escape. People get evacuated for peace of mind or desperation other than UTH not being able to check their blood. It medical tourism.

For you the PF or any government must not do anything about anything… they must not care for the sick, never build roads, clinics, stadiums, dams, airports, bridges, schools and universities, never look for money to push the country forward, the president must not leave state house, no ministers should talk or travel at all. This time the UPND did not boycott government sending their MP to RSA. It is interesting how UPND selectively boycotts occasions. They never boycott pay rises for their MPs. South African hospitals should stop accepting these Zambian patients in their hospitals. It will create a bad name for their hospitals that they are a death lounge. Actually I have discovered that those cases treated Zambia have been successful as compared to the evacuees. If we can transplant international organs and separate conjoined twins how can we fail to treat a simple high blood pressure. KK used to get his treatment at UTH and is still alive. At one time the Unip government refused to allow Harry Nkumbula to go overseas for treatment.

Njimbu on this one I tend to disagree with you. ..Zambia or Africa has failed because among many reasons is your suggestion that the eminent persons should retire. ..please we need what’s in their heads not in their bodies. Indeed we should improve the health sector so that those who go to seek treatment abroad or over seas can do it out of choice if our hospitals would be on the same level as those abroad. Also some people want to be treated abroad because of the friendly environment and staff. Also they want privacy, so that only close family are there during visiting hour no crowding.Last but not least it’s God who has predetermined how and where a person will die. Read 1Kings22: 37-38, that King Ahab died in battle in Arameans and was brought back to his country, Samaria where he was buried just as the LORD had declared. MHSRIP.

Agreed with the Zambian, it would work out cheaper since s/he would see more patients and there would be a transfer of skills. Government should sort out the issue of equipment and medicines
This is about government offering to evacuate someone whose family I presume accepted. How would the UPND stop that? In the broader scheme of things, they are still free to criticise the policy on the basis that we need to shape up or own health services in all areas that need the same – personnel, equipment, relevant structures, quality etc. I don’t see the conflict
