Lamba chiefs on the Copperbelt province have distanced themselves from a statement attributed to Mpongwe Member of Parlaiment Gabriel Namulambe alleging that the Lambas are not happy with the way late Republican President Levy Mwanawasa’s legacy was handled.
Chairperson of the Copperbelt Chiefs Association Chief Mwinuna of the Lamba people in Mpongwe District says the Lamba traditional leaders will not accept to be drawn into the political statement made by Mpongwe Member of Parliament Gabriel Namulambe.
Chief Mwinuna says the Lamba chiefs like all chiefs in the country are custodians of the people and as such cannot be drawn into political quarrels.
He told ZANIS in an interview in Kitwe today that Lamba chiefs will not support statements which they do not understand by engaging in unnecessary quarrels with politicians.
“We are traditional rulers, all the Zambian people are our subjects so why should we be drawn into petty politics’’ said Chief Mwinuna.
He said traditional rulers in the area do not understand the context under which Mr. Namulambe uttered the statements attributed to him in the Press and that they could only issue a comprehensive statement on the matter after meeting Mr. Namulambe.
The traditional leader added that there were so many Lamba Chiefs on the Copperbelt and that he did not know the chiefs that Mr. Namulabe was talking about hence the need to consult him.
He disclosed that he would telephone Mr. Namulabe before he could issue any statement on the matter.
Mr. Namulambe is alleged to have said Lambas feel hurt, insulted an injured by constant attacks on late President Levy Mwanawasa’s legacy.
He is also alleged to have demanded that LAmbas be respected both in government and the MMD.
Some sections of society have since described the statement as being tribal.
And the Copperbelt Traditional Rulers have called on the ruling Movement for Multi Party Democracy to hold a party convention before 2011.
Chairperson Chief Mwinuna says it would be undemocratic for the ruling Party to refuse to hold a convention before the 2011 tripartite elections.
Chief Mwinuna observed that the MMD was founded on Democratic Principals which must be upheld at all times.
He added that if calls by some sectors of society that the Party should not hold a Convention are sustained the top leadership in the Party would be exposing the people to acts of dictatorship.

Mantha!! It is true anyway>
Chief Mwimuna, Gabriel was referring to Lamba people not particularly chiefs. Namulambe’s statement of fact should not be misconstrued strictly as “politics”, it is a statement of fact. Actually, majority of Zambians have same sentiments towards this government, time will tell. This government of Nyamasoya is sinking after almost 20 years of MMD, to make matters even worser is the fact that the “last pilot of MMD “is sleeping in greed and corruption.
“As Zambians who originate from Ndola rural, (we) respect our Lamba senior citizens. They are not opportunists, they are progressive Zambians, well respected, I don’t believe they can act like Judas Iscariot who sold Jesus Christ for a few pieces of silver.
They can’t accept any appointment that will betray the love they have for their own brave Zambian who died on duty living a legacy which Zambians cherish. It is an insult to us the young generation who believe in progressive ideas of substance,” he said.
Nsali said former finance minister Ng’andu Magande, Enoch Kavindele and former defence minister George Mpombo and Namulambe deserve respect for standing on the side of the silent majority who voted for Mwanawasa’s legacy.
He said what Namulambe said truly reflected…
What legacy… my foot!!! Our politicians are a joke
Shikapwasha will take adavntage of this article and WANK the whole nite
Zedan33, hahahahahaha, the whole nite? Ikali.
Once and for all, a Zambian president is president of the whole nation. Thus we all suffer at the same time. Thus when cheifs in one area tell their subjects to vote for one candidate the affect the whole nation. Forget the tribal affiliations we are one Zambia one nation under Jesus. Christ expects us to work and save our finances; further to develop other faculties of tertiary education apart from sciences and financial disciplines. Arts, culture, knowledge understanding and wisdom. Then and only then shall Zambia develop and be what she was born to be.
Imwe what ‘legacy’ is there to talk about ? Chi Levy and ka Maureen just brought about Nepotism in Zambia. When you go to foreign missions and ZESCO they are filled with children of Lambas. The son to Late Mapushi , Lackson jnr is in the OP despite having failed in all but English at Chibombo Sec sch ! Officers in the defence services wings were appointed on tribal lines ! What legacy ? Uko kwine na ka Legacy !
What about Kaundas legacy, do we have any followers or ‘defenders’ as the preferred term?
Why are the chewas/ngonis not annoyed (like the lambas do when Levys corruption is exposed) that the post suggests that ”Rupiah will kill the MMD as he killed unip”
This “legacy” thing haz really got on to peoplez headz! There iz no need to make an issue out of theze legaciez be they for KK, FTJ, LPM or indeed RB. Don’t see anything tribal in the non-issue personal oppinion of Namulambe for anyone to let the hammer off the hook about.
orruption is coruption despite who commits it. my advice to the MMD is to stop campaigning on the so called LPM legacy. Let them remove this word from their vocaburary and all will be well.
The problem with Zambians we are scared of being told the truth we can’t handle the truth,we want someone to face it for us,Namulambe is on spot why should we all call it tribal,if these chiefs feel it’s politics why enter the fray,we as lambas will defend anyone who stands up against oppression,we are in a critical situation in the country and *****s will love to start noise and heap the blame on people who are outspoken against the regime of RB,just watch this space….
There is only one legacy worth living & dying for – Christ’s legacy of eternal life.
Why is everybody (including the opposition )jumping on the Mwanawasa legacy band-waagon? Whilst his tenure had some successes, we should not look at it through rose tinted glasses. As others have said, there were traits such as nepotism and alleged corruption of the former first lady that we have to examine. I personally feel that Mwanawasa could have expedited the whole Chiluba saga. Did the whole process have to take so much time? Under his watch, Mwanawasa did not act quickly enough so as to ensure that Zambia benefitted from the high copper prices and let us not forget that it was widely thought that the election that brought LPM into power in 2001 was rigged which questions his legitimacy.
Ladies and gentlmen, I have a suggestion, we can make our own parliament called Manda Hill LT. The debate will be interesting all we need to invite a referee Mwanamwambwa. Guys can debate here:
Look at this: Ati fuseki what ka Legacy? or the other one the only legacy to die for is in Jesus elternal life. The other one is talking of nepotism.
Umwenso……these so called chief should be principled like western province chiefs, not talking to the media every hour
Fellow countrymen and women, if there is one thing we appreciate about KK, its the all encompassing “ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION” spirit, and this was done in the interest of the nation. So when politicians yap, they must do it in the nation’s interest, not tribal interests. this is where, i think, Nalubambe got it wrong, coz a leader is supposed to be above board. in as much as he is entitled to air his opinion, as a national leader, this must be done with “all things considered” to the greater good of ALL Zambians.
For sure the only legacy is that of Jesus Christ and not this rubbish legacy of family tree and nepotism. Look at this opportunists bunch of kavindele, magande, impombo, namulambe, etc we are tired of these same useless bustards who are now out of employment and influence. ABASH LEGACY ‘One Zambia One Nation’
what legacy nepotisim, hatred for chiluba, familytree, mandamandas ,what a legacy! Levy wouldnt have been president if chiluba didnt push him up. infact Levy was a spentforce found sleeping by clever chiluba.. no wonder he is gone too fast you dont rule with that kind of hatred
Mpombo and Mamulambe are flying too close to the sun, they may have their wings burnt. These hangers on were virtually unknown before Chiluba nominated their uncle in 2001. Today they want to hold Rupiah Banda to ransom. Can they tell us the % of lambas in Zambia. When a dull cabinet minister claims to represent a group of zambians, he must be sacked and a by election held. There will be always be another lamba or umulenji willing to replace namulambe – guaranteed. A good legacy does not need anyone to be defended, if it is good it will defend itself. Look at Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchil, KK etc. They don’t need anybody to defend their work. Levy’ s legacy is no exception, if it is good it will stand the test of time. Can Namulambe shut up and do some work.
I want one courageous lamba to pluck out courage and tell us the percentage of the Lamba tribe in Zambia. It is an insult to pensioners dying of penury that a non entity in the name of Namulambe should challenge us along tribal lines. Today these people who claim to defend the legacy have amassed huge possessions using their positions in Government. What legacy does he want defending? Rupiah seems too weak, he needs to fire this boy Namulambe and replace him with lavu Mutesa or another eminent Lamba.
why tribal politics pa zed now. if this trend remains unchecked it will destroy the whole country.
Do sane people still listen to what these parasites say? They think with their stomach, they are an organised mob for hire to highest bidder, in this case the highest bidder being Government.
Even villager don’t respect them anymore going by the beating Chitimukulu and MMD got at the hands of PF/UPND pact. Anytime they open their mouths know they want to eat, period.
Family tree is what Levy left. Namulambe, tell us what you have done in life, rather what you did in life before your uncle appointed you PS. Let me remind you, you were just a dull, simple, unqualified cashier in a rural council. How can a cashier become a PS? Thats one area your late uncle failed in. I am not a tribalist and will never be, but govt jobs were for Lambas and Lenjes under LPM. Check yourself, you can’t even construct good english statements. You were even insurbordinate to Rev. Nyirongo one time. Instead of disciplining you, you were promoted. Thank God LPM went too soon, we would have been watching him in courts for abuse of office. Do us a favour, S H U T U P!!!!!!
When I have nothing to say I keep silent, and listen to others.
#25 Kitwe Boys are from Kitwe? If so, were you at Kitwe Boys High school? I am from Kitwe myself though I am at the moment in Lusaka. You see I get excited whenever I read comments from pipo who originate from Kitwe. Gudnite!
Namulambe do you remember your uncle telling the nation that he hated Bembas and Easterners and that they stink? Do you remember that during his first 5 years he didn’t have an Easterner as a Cabinet minister? It had to take preassure from Chiefs from there for him to include them in exchange for votes. Thats when he even picked a dull old farmer as his vice who unfortunately became repulican president. He meant to dribble us Zambians, but he ended up dribbling the family tree. God is just.
#25 yes I was at KBSS in 12 K. Left in 1990. Was in 8 and 9 S in 1996 and 1997. When were you there?
Sorry meant # 27
Ati Legacy amafi yeka yeka
TWALILYA UTUMA LAMBA CHIEFS AMA BROWN ENVELOPS. ELO TULE ENSHA NAMA PAJEROs AND MORE PROMISED BROWN ENVELOPS. ITS COMMON SENSE THAT THE MP HAS BEEN BETRAYED. THERE IS A LOT DEVELOPMENT IN THESE CHIEFS POCKETS, (to borrow Sata’s saying), THEY CAN’T SAY ANYTHING AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. POVERTY UTUFUMU TWALIITOBA ELO BAKAPELA BROWN ENVELOP YOU THINK CHITI MUKULU CAN BE ABLE TO SEE NONSENSE FROM rupia?
#4 and 8 even me that’s the question I always ask. “What legacy?” The guy made a lot of f.u.c.k.u.p.s and you still talk about the legacy. All evidence was displayed in front of his eyes but it took him not even his life time to convict ka chand bewu. He rupia was an i.d.i.o.t but he brought into leadership all for the sake of clinging to power and you are still calling that legacy. What legacy?
in the sensoredblog above I meant fackups
#21 Well said – a legacy defends itself. It is funny how Mr. Mpombo also wants to make an issue out of a legacy – which legacy nobody knows. Trying to talk about LPM’s legacy will just uncover all the dirt under the carpet and that will be very nasty for the proponents of the “legacy”. Namalumbe can even say that he is not a lightweight (Post). Who is he? RB needs to come down heavily on miniature creatures like this. Zambia is not short of manpower. We have a big reservoir of well-qualified, intelligent Lambas that can replace this chap in a minute and do a good job for our country.
Lambas under Levy have done very well for themselves and thanks to tribal related appointments under Levy’s rule.Levy sold out to the Post and inrernational businesses and made money for himself and family. Those boasting the loudest on the Legacy have earned alot of money and favors because of Government jobs. If it was General Miyanda giving us the lecture I would listen because the man has never succumbed to the temptation of wealth. The man has resisted financial inducements. This cannot be said of Namulambe and his crew, they enjoy the limelight so much that they have forgotten where they came from.
legacy my foot we goin 2b eatin dis animal caled legacy, put food on pipos table than talk abt dis yo legacy
WHEN THEY CAME FOR MY NEIGHBOUR,I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING,NOW THEY ARE COMING FOR ME WHO WILL SAVE ME?
Chiliba’s legacy of “nu kaca” was all about “bu natolelefye” He has the likes of “chieve” Puta of the Bwile people of Luapula and Katanga seriously defending this legacy of “nu kaca” but sadly enough for Chiluba, most Bemba people find this “nu kaca” stinking like the excrement and urine of Kolwe of State House whence their resolve to keep a distance from Kansundila after Kolwa drenched his big head and nose, soaked them thorough in his urine.
Much as I don’t like RB, it is unfair to expect him to follow someone else’s lgacy to the letter. In any case he is already following in some of LPM’s footsteps such as nepotism. RB is appointing mostly Easterners to GRZ positions. Perhaps what most people are missing in Namulambe’s statement is that we should desist from attacking LPM because he is no more therefore he cannot defend himself. Let us let the man rest in peace.
I wonder whether ministers like bena Namulambe have taken time to look at what tribal politics did to Rwanda, the Sudan where u find the country is devided between the muslim north and animist south (where u find the black pipo) or iraq between the shiite and kurds. The problem we have with politicians is that they want to be seen to be speaking for masses, they want to be seen to be working. the sad thing is that they are not even accountable for what they do during their time as MPs or ministers coz no one bothers to ask them coz zambians are docile, which is why i agree with Mandevu resident Charles Longwe’s action.
who will carry Nyama Soya’s legecay when he leaves office in 2011? oh howabout Chiluba’s legacy is it the way we are in?
