Government has released K11 billion for the electrification of Sikongo in Western Province.

The funds will go towards tapping electricity from Kalabo to connect Sikongo to the National grid.

Works and Supply Deputy Minister, Mundia Ndalamei, says a contractor has already started clearing the route for the power line.

Mr. Ndalamei who is also Sikongo Member of Parliament told ZNBC news in Lusaka that the project is expected to be completed next year.

He said the electrification of Sikongo will accelerate development along the border with Angola.

And Mr. Ndalamei said a feasibility study has been completed on the proposed construction of a road from Kalabo via Sikongo to the Angolan border.

He said the African Development Bank is ready to fund the 150 kilometer road once the feasibility studies are approved.

  1. Its about time there was a correlation between votes and development. The government should also employ locals from the area to boost the income in the area. Now we need all corners of Zambia to press this RB government for electrification and road networks. If Sikongo can get electricity why shouldn’t magoye or gwembe?

  2. I lived in Zambia for 18 yrs and I never heard of this place called Sikongo before – it sounds like aq province in DRC.

  3. Good news, long over due, in fact that project stated about four years ago, hope bo Clinical Officer Ndalamei  will do something about those beautiful government houses which are crumbling due to non occupancy,  why not offer some of the Police houses to teachers and also rent them out to traders or any one who can afford them?

  4. RB with his altruistic economic policies is tenaciously stirring the ship forward weathering some Global Macroeconomic challenges. He has wisely ignored “sole losers” daily selling their insults. Instead, his eyes are transfixed on serving the citizenry with whom he has a national interest alliance with. This is ideal statesmanship.

  5. Why should take the president to visit the area to make a promise of development this what is not okay. Iwe Veteran which Macroeconomic polices are talking about. Look Zambia has lost by not being focused, this must have been done long before. In one months time all roads leads to Angola and this would have been a drive of the tourism industry. Simple! GRZ would have just advertised and inform the ecosystem in Liuwa National park. They are some west people interested in such ventures they would come to do research apart from seeing animals and watching football. We are talking of climate change such areas play a very important role in decision making

  6. Please Lozis just enjoy the development RB brings in a bid to win your votes, but when voting day comes you know what to do.

  7. WHAT WE NEED IS A TOTAL NATIONAL ROAD NETWORK, NOT A MISERABLE PEACEMEAL DROP LIKE THIS. HOWEVER, GOOD ATTEMPT. NOW WE’LL HAVE MORE DIAMONDS, RICE AND FISH RUNNING UP AND DOWN.

  8. So these bustards can actually work if pressured huh…?? VIVA Namakando job well done. The good part is that he pressured government from within the MMD than some people here who support MMD like its a spotless party. And to ya’ll Lozis take the development with both hands, but when you enter that booth, you know were to put the vote. Atleast the next government will know not to take advantage of the masses with s.t.u.p.i.d development bribes.

  9. MWAN’AMUSUTU, My brother from the west, I hail from the wise corners of the east, idearly one of our own is not really wise (RB); but I do know about the diamonds of the Barotse and how Botswana like Zambia would be if Laws are written and wise heads are put into office. Possible oil in my Chama and your plains, plus like I always say rice growing potential of both Areas. The Dambo in my land has similar cultivation blessings. Not forgetting the Northwestern and southerns meat(BEEF) potential. It just hit me, Zambia should not be poor.

  10. RB thank for the electrification of Sikongo please let it be a true story atleast before election .RB make sure you go there and inspect the project like you went to kalabo to see the need for that. Also Mr President i would like to remind you of many more other projects like the Mongu Kalabo road,Clearing of water canals .Water canals has to be cleared bust the production of rice. This will make the land dry for cultivation of rice fields as water will run fast to the main canals and rivers. All the road network in Barotseland e.g Kaoma – Lukulu,Kaoma – Mulobezi – Sesheke,Kaoma – Kasempa and Lukulu – Kasempa .Furthemore ,consider clearing the main canal which the LITUNGA of Barotseland uses during Kuomboka ,The Road to His Limulunga palaces , his places at Namuso Lealuyi and Limulunga.

  11. Can someone explain this to me. Are some areas special than others? Is the western province the least developed? This will just bring more confusion. I m sure all our provinces have major problems. We should share the limited resources equally. Someone now wants the road to the Limulunga done. What about the one for the chief in Central,Eastern, North west ,Northern provinces etc? Why is RB directing the Minister of Finance to look for funds for these projects? Does it mean that our ministers have the ability to source funds for projects and they dont know how to do it or they are scared to do anything before the KING gives instructions?

  12. I thank my mbuyas the Lozi People. This is work well done and I hope other provinces will do the same to press Rupiah and his colleagues so that development is brought in the areas than spending on flying in & out all the time.

  13. Too late too little. If this genuine was it in the National Budget? If not what has prompted GRZ/MMD to carry out this excercise. Veteran we are not stupid. We can see through your tricks. In any case this our money not MMD money-my TAX in excess of 3m Kwacha.
