  1. ZP cage this defiler. Kimitolo, nimaloza, mipamba. No wonder my cousins like saying mwana ujokela mwiida or yakomena inyonka kumoombe

  2. That’s just wrong. The guy is paedophile. Age of consent is 16 mwe bantu. LT why the picture of a guy blowing his nose with no tissue. The only photo worth praising is that of the escarpment. At least you have shown us evidence of an unlawful marriage and I pray to God you are not condoning this sexual abuse.

  3. Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m realy worried about the age of girl (Picture 2). The young girl is supposed to be in school. I wounder in those individuals are thinking straight, but if is a Zambian culture/tradition I really apologize for my ignorance. The thing is I’m just worried about the future of the little girl that’s all.

  4. You can see that even the boy is not even interested in the marriage. Where is this world going kanshi???

  5. Pics#2,12,13

Is this a real wedding or just a play wedding. The boy is an adult at 18 but the girl is still a child. Statutory r.a.pe charges should be brought again him. These Tonga people, those are children not cows!

  6. Wonderful pics…we may think those teens are definately too young to get married but we were not there to know the exact circumstances that led to the wedding. Some things only seem strange at first sight but when you take a closer look, you begin to understand why…

  7. The rest of the pics are good except the shocking wedding…who gave consent for these ‘tots’ to get married?? the chief must be arrested… its illegal global wise to allow such to take place.

  8. hmmm 18 hooks 14, is this not child abuse? where is the DEC arrest these people for they were all under the influence of Dagar. Too much dobo in sinasongwe.

  9. #9 Dan Pule…..you should not get surprised since you like the sweet teens as well. After milking them then you to finish what your friend left in his wife. Ala uli mukali iwe Dan Pule man of gold.

  10. Tongas treat their cows better than their children. How can adults allow this wedding to happen?

They must be suffering from Denkete because no parent in this day and age would put their daughter in a wedding dress and marry her off.

  11. Buti kwena, that young brides body isnt fully developed for the labour that comes with marriage. Where is Nancy Grace from CNN when you need her, awe mwe.

  12. Nothing shocking about the wedding. #5 on blowing nose without tissue, you’ve not yet lived bro. There is no tissue in the village. #11 Nine Chale, you are the only one who’s right on the wedding. Girls in villages start sex at age 11 and thats the age of consent. Stop thinking like Europeans..

  13. interesting pictures shame about the 14yr old bride…. but I am sure the child has not been exposure to a future beyond & above marriage.

  14. The 14 year old girl getting married makes sad reading, Parliament should make clear laws to guide the people. This girl should be going to grade 8 for a better future. She is likely to have a baby by age 15. Her life is basically over and she does not know it.Strengthen the laws of the country to protect these young people from self total destruction. Lusaka Times should follow this story for 10 years if it survives that long, it may be for a few years. It will be a lesson for others.

  15. Can someone please tell me why Pande or Mutati can not consider running for MMD presidency to save the dignity of the party?

  16. Iwe Great Galu, nowadays we have joined the global village so some of our customs cannot be fighting global regulations that we are signatory to . The world has agreed that one is a minor until 16 so Zambian custom has to conform. This is obviously a forced marriage. Lastly, how can you say stop thinking like Europeans yet the African bride and groom in the picture go to such great lengths to carbon copy a European wedding ceremony? Why cant they wed in traditional or African dress? They want to be European so they must follow European rules!

  17. It’s not about thinking like anyone, the Zambian law iz clear on the girl-child age for concensual s.e.x or indeed marriage and that iz 16! Other parts of the World have different legistlation on this issue, have even heard of nationz that allow 12year old girlz! The law here must quickly vizit this son of village headman in Sinazongwe.

  18. Am not a lawyer but i know something about the laws in Zambia. #20 #11 The law is Zambia states that an adult cannot have sexual relations with a minor, this is contrary to Section 138 CAP 87 of the laws of the Republic of Zambia. Having carnal knowledge of a minor (age below 16) is an offense in Zambia, so its not like people are just copying western rules, this is OUR law. So this guy and his parents must be arrested and charged for child defilement. He is an adult as he s legally able to vote in our Country. 3 years from now he will even qualify to stand as a Member of Parliament MP (age 21) while the girl would not even have reached the age to vote! this is ridiculous, how do we expect to develop when we allow our children’s futures to be thrown away!

  19. Its such a great pleasure to see ba Chanda Beu. It brings back to memory the days when he used to do his thing with Chris Chal’i’s Amayenge! Am glad he’s doing something positive with himself… much love ba Chanda!

  20. pic 2 how do you drag a bride all dressed in white through that dust! Obviously this was not a well thought out wedding. For one its at least 4years early! Only a horny 18yr old would do such a thing.Where are the parents!

  21. imwe vibafana siyani vabupuba ivo go to school….ndimwe muonesela zambia. ni married yakuti iyo. iwe naiwe kamukazi yenda ukasuke mbale first at yo parents home..don’t b cheated na ako kamwana ka ba headman think of your future coz i cn’t c n future in dis married

  22. #22,#27, #28, spot on!!!!, I have a 14 year old girl, who is doing her grade 8,marriage?? whats that? this young girl’s future is doomed from the start till the end!!!.
    Ati bashiwinga utusapato!!!

I think this is just a mock wedding.. they were just playing madimbiko…
    hard to swallow.. eeek!!

  23. Could this be why some western media still refer to Zambia as former British Colony (Northern Rhodesia), we have come full circle after 45 years. Some areas are back in those old days.

  24. first chibule pakamwa…….::..so ninshi bakulu in that vilage ndiye ve baganiza VABUPUBA so kukwatilia bafana tee..where are the girl’s parent coz the headman is a very bad leader in the area. and the boy should go back 2 school also muli style yakumunzi he is supposed to be in grade 7…Bwana help me napapata pliz….am afraid …natina sana…nilinamant …ninaniboi..but bwana chitani monga mwa sebenzelako ku sinazongwe ndaba viba tonga vizajaila…whereon earth such married

  25. To dispel any misunderstandings surrounding my comment on #11, I did not say that I approve of this teenage marriage. All I did was take a neutral stance by saying some things appear abnormal at first glance but begin to seem normal depending on different factors like culture, background, world-view or religion.
I have read about babies being given to each other in marriage somewhere in India because it’s their custom. Should their parents all be arrested? I also recall watching a report where a 12-year old boy married his 11-year old cousin in a Saudi province, becoming the youngest married couple in the world. Just check the Guiness Book of World Records if you dont believe me.

  26. Zambia u need to set your hse in order b4 u can be able to address your problems.Perhaps u start with yo name,I mean how can u hav a name(zambia) that begins wit the last letter of the alphabet & ends wit the 1st letter the same alphabet?Does anyone of u bloggers complaining about this(obviously outrageous marriage!) hav an idea why our fmr pres Chiluba decided to 1st register his marriage wit Regina under our customary laws & later register it under our constitutional law?He hasn’t even yet done so!

Under customary laws this marriage is ‘accepted’ bcuz the scrutiny required is lower and those int’l convetions on the dfn of a child u mentioning here don’t apply there.Under our constitutional law, this marriage can’t even be recognised.

    Solution:Harmonize your 2 systems law.

  27. I don’t mean to disrespect u tonga compatriots(cuz actually am also tonga and my full name is HaDobola), yeah but the point I want to make is, consuming to much bull’s meat raises a man’s libido and it parallels that of a bull. Those of us tongas who know how bulls behave understand very well that just one horny bull can go round several cows & service them like nobody’s business! This ‘bull hornyness’ so to speak is contageous to those who consume lots of bull meat!Do u ever wonder why we marry several women and yet we all just have one instrument like our bemba compatriots who can’t even manage one wife in one night? Also cow salt is a problem cuz it makes the member rise when it’s suppose to be sleeping. In KK era we used to have cow salt meant for bulls and we also used to…

  28. #11 and 20. You are only ones who have commented (positively) towards that wedding without biase. Other comments are baseless and without reasoning. Others have even gone to dennounce the tribe-Tonga. Lets not be intoxicated with these western laws and culture (or is it life style). Mind you even in Europe (or England to be pricise) in pre-consent-law, years men used to marry very young girls. Even as young as 13. It was just inacting this law that it became illegal to marry, make sayx with a person under the age of 18, in (if am not mistaken) GBritain. If am not mistake difference culture/religions/groups of identifiable nations have their own consent age, there4, Civil Laws in this regard.

  29. It is wrong to marryoff those babies in this generation. they are not ready for any thing but problems and poverty,, these kids must be in school preparing for their future, finish school go to college or university ;; who allowed them to do such a thing oh my foot!

  30. As most of you know almost the entire set of Zambian Laws are a direct transplant from the British Laws. Up to dateZambia’s copied Laws have never been modified (if any very little) to suit the Zambian ways of life (culture and traditions). While in the originating country (Britain) All or at least most of these laws have been debated and amended. And taught to people what thiese Laws mean. In fact this/these consent Law(s) might have even started at, 4argument’s sake, 13. But over years, upgraded to 18.

  31. Pic#8,Chanda Beu, is he married? No offence meant here but I’m just trying to establish and define a relationship between the wedding pics#2,12&13 shown and the pic#8 of Chanda Beu shaza!

  32. VJ has nine lives….I said this before and Iam saying it now. Most of you bloggers home and abroad mukoma akaputi kuchulu and this man will still be around. You are playing with tractor! But the way things are looking …Ummmmmm.Ni kaya!

  33. Remember Rupiah Banda’s pornography case against Chanda Kabwela? The Law that was applied against her was originally from Britain. But the same Law has been refined to suit the contemporarly time (and not to suit an individual or a group of individuals). Now, coming back to the wedding. That young man and his suiter (including villagers) may not be in a position to know that there is even a ‘Law of Age Consent’. This is even worsened by the fact that in Zambia there’s no system in place which teaches citizens about their civil rights. If one did not have an opportunity to enter into a class room, then you were shut out.

  34. How can we distinguish defilement from this case?
Under the Musungu law…even when thieves and murderers are caught in the act they are called suspects. In my traditional law there is no such thing as a suspect. When a criminal is punished by the masses in Shangombo the Musungu called it Mob justice.
Since the constitution is not yet published include the following
1.Defilement will only applies in urban cities
2.Villagers will be allowed to grow cannabis
3.Due to poor condition of services.corruption is legal.
4.Prostitutes will be subside by govt to curb defilement in cities.
5.All H3´s Hammers to be sold, money to shared with the poor.
6.Having a potbelly in poor neighborhoods is a criminal offence- and will call for inverstigation

  35. Pic# Ba VJ, awe shuwa. I ‘ve even remebered that Tshala Muana song”Kwa lesaaa, kwa lesa tuka pya abengi tantameni tu mone ama hule, ma mwenu tiye tiye….

  36. Pic#3 Ba VJ, awe shuwa. I ‘ve even remebered that Tshala Muana song”Kwa lesaaa, kwa lesa tuka pya abengi tantameni tu mone ama hule, ma mwenu tiye tiye….

  37. So, even if we are just copying things, we must modify them to contemorarily suit our ways of life, and put in place a structure which educates people (whether they pass thru a class room or not) about these things. Therefore, think twice b4 u start blaming or insulting those villagers or even becoming tribal about it. Don’t get me wrong. I am not in any way in favour of under-age-anything. But, let not forget that our people are just ignorant about these Laws. I am sure if you go to kwa Nabwalya you will witness a lot marriages involving girls of 13 years old and boys who are at the age of 17-18 and above.

  38. #47 you have made me luagh ati TANTAMENI TUMONE AMAULE!!!! LOL, Am a Tonga Bull but my Parents would have beaten the hell out of me if I mentioned CHIKWATI AT 18YRS

  39. And one or two main culprits driving Zambians to such indignities are poverty, unemployment, lack of opportunity to be in school at the right age, diseases (HIV/AIDS), the broken extended family fabric due to poverty, etc. These happenings today in Zambia are the offshoots of poor and greedy governance by our leaders in Zambia. They are not doing what they are supposed to, to properly pre-occupy the zambian citizens. They are just minding their pockets and those of their friends.

  40. #26. Think deeper. You are too shallow in thought. You don’t even seem to understand the global world you are talking about. How can Zambia be part of the global world when what defines ‘global world’ is entirely the advancements in technology which Zambia by-and-large lags behind. Here, where I live, I have never entered into a house without a computer. In fact its almost like a computer per person in the home? Can you say the same thing in the case of Zambia? Even in Lusaka only a handful of people have access to the computer. Let alone the Internet. Now, what you are saying is that we are at par with Japan in terms of Information Technology…

  41. …My friend this terminologies or academic concepts you are copying in a lecture theatre or on TVs do not practically apply to most parts of the worldambia is not in the global world. Because, maybe just 1% of the population has access to computers which is at the centre of the definition of your “global world”. My friend don’t be shallow. Think deeper than just being academic.

  42. Its a shame that a lot of blogers on here are not well read. While that marriage is early, and not good given the current circumstances, may I challenge you blogers to ask your parents mothers easpecially how old there were when they had their first kids. Most your granies were married about that age. If you think this a lie, check how old your parents are and how old your granies are and do the maths….be real.
This weeding was not good but dont think out of context

  43. Yayayaya “for better for worse, till death!” This “wedding” is just an example of the whole lot going on in all Rural Zambian Areas. There are numerous such “weddings” all around Zambia. Something should be done.

  44. Greetings my fellow bloggers. Straight to the point this young man is getting. 18 is and should be the age of consent for a relationship for male and female period. Those of you condoning this foolishness; if Zambia is to start developing today and social security set up do you realize that your working tax paying behinds would be the ones supporting their lives. She could be taught in school to become a doctor engineer, even ZAF mig fighter pilot. No you say let’s let immature children get married so Zambia continues dwindling in moral and wisdom lacking abyss. Let me be minister of youth child and social development, I would ban and have officers visit the so called headmen and cheifs it only takesone high profile cheifs arrest to stop the scurge. Mans brain is fully grown at age 21.

  45. who manages RB’s wardrobe? Surely the dressing of RB leaves much to be desired all the time. The shirt does not much with the neither with tie nor suit nor shoes. There are only some stripped shirts that go with a tie. Somebody advise RB’s wardrobe manager! On this one I miss the smart FTJ.

  46. Zambia is outdated….. look at the head of state his excellency BWEZANI KUMBUYO BAND, he is from which planet? I just dont understand where his excellency lies. his dullness is extend even to the bedroom. A farmer straight from chipata farm. TALK OF THE MARRIEGE IT’S A DISASTER ….I DONT KNOW WHERE WE ARE HEADING BECAUSE THOSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ISSUES OF CENTURIES, BUT IN OUR COUNTRY IT’S WHEN WE ARE PRACTICING THEM. MAY GOD DELIVER US FROM THESE MEDIOCRE ISSUES.

  47. #25, A human’s neurological maturity happens at 25 years. At 25 thats when the myelination process is complete.Below 25 myelination is incomplete and that explains the observed high prevalence of certain psychiatric illnesses in those below 25.

  48. To those bloggers saying that the legal age to have intercourse with a person was copied and that we have our own culture to follow, lets forget about culture and tradition for a second and think of whats in the best interest of our children and our country at large. Just because our cultures permits such things doesn’t make them right. Does it mean that if murder was allowed in our culture then that would have made it right? definitely not! Culture or not, the bottom line is that these two young people are too young to marry period! The husband cant even take his wife for a drink because she is not even allowed in a pub in Zambia, no drunk S.E.X for him till she is 18. they r bad things and good things for everything, and on this one i think we would rather copy the muzungu law .. contd

  49. and protect and build the future of our youths. I dont not support everything that the white man has brought to this world but lets pick things that are good for us from any and every culture while protecting our GOOD values too. That way we will have a rich culture all together.

  50. But mulumendo iwe uli wamufulo! and may be umukashana has no parents to care for her and I wonder how many children she is going to have when she is 25 years.

  51. hey why are the pact supporters not taking advantage of this? don’t you guys think that probably rb played a hand in this marriage? me i smell a rat!

  52. ..and you expect people to think even the very core fabric that once held Zambia has been tolerated. What on earth is this nonesense? wedding at 14?! Any way the presodo has a daughter for a wife, what do you expect from the general public?

  53. Arrest that headman’s son thats very illegal ,that girl is below legal age to get married. She needs to be at school period.

  54. Sometimes I wonder what type of minds we have on this blog…very shallow thinking. How many of you bloggers have dads parents that are in their 60s, 70s etc? I bet they still look as fresh as they did in their 30s ka…???? When people age, they lose form and they look old. VJ has been around for a long time ….age or not the way he looks has no business for perpetual comments. Even if he were sick, what business is that to you? Why don’t you comment on constructive things….week in and week out …its ntwenu kane na pwa and all the malabishi you keep uttering….Shhhaaaaaa….shallow minds!

  55. Nangu ba General Malimba abo ….Bushe ba lemoneka fimo fine …naimwe bene mu ka fonta ….mu ka pwa elyo tu sweet 16 tuka tila ….ba Beyonce ba pa Zed ba sila! And your friends….. who made you gods to decide who and when someone is about to kick the bucket …for sure mu za kaenda mu za musiya ….

  56. Eh bakalamba ba Yaya (#71) nda na sometimes ….pardon my language. I just need some stimulating talk once in a while.

  57. Sorry I meant nda naka sometimes ….pardon my language. I just need some stimulating talk once in a while.

  58. What a crazy wedding. Efforts by NGOs robbying funds from donors to fight iliteracy in Zambia is inevitable. They don’t go to deep villagers whilst chewing money on expense of the villagers.

  59. #2. LT tell us that`s not a wedding. Balebutafye abaiche. Overall nice pictures.Keep it up. This is the best collection so far. Well balanced.

  60. dont complain about that 18 yr old boy marrying a 14 yr old girl. he is a little decent compared to RB. i mean if you take 20 yrs from RB’s age and 20 from Thandiwe’s, RB would be 45 yrs and Thandiwe would still be in amatebela and ifikwesa.

  61. Awe sure guys mwa ponta pa bwinga bwamwaiche. How about giving them kudos for stimulating LT bloggers? At least abaiche batutekunyako. Let’s wish them well as habby and wifey. More than 70 posts? Wow!…….A sign that a lot of bloggers are tired and slowly losing interest in the same ol’ same Zed politics.

  62. Its a shame to see these young people getting togather in the eyes of the Zambian Nation. No comments to offend people, Zambia is ruled by a bunch of morrons and jack as$$$$es period.

  63. Having not seen the girl’s face, i’ll not comment, however, LT will do us a favor if they could confirm that their photographer asked the girl or at least someone close to her for her age. But i’ve seen the man’s face, he’s a baby himself. Now the fact is most of us here were deeply involved in fornication at his age. Do i think marriage is the right thing to go in at his age? no, i don’t think so.

  64. The way Mwaanga looks,he still goes out with some of the nicest and hottest looking women in Zed(one of them happens to be my workmate). You wonder what women are looking for?

  65. Morally and maturely, it is, and should be repugnant that persons of that age should be marrying. But here are the facts. The age of consent applies to Englsh law – and that is age 16. If you marry under the English law, you are bound by this age limit. But Zambia has concurrent laws. Side by side with the English law, is customary law. Customary laws are recognised as long as they are not repugnant to good conscience and natural justice. Under customary law, there is no age of consent. The girl only needs to have attained maturity (puberty) If that is a marriage governed by tradition,
no offence has been committed. All they have to prove is that they have followed the Tonga traditions
of a marriage ceremony. And being customary, the marriage is also potentially polygamous.

  66. Everything has its own time. Those of you who are supporting this wedding are enemies of development human rights. Iwe ka #54 nobupuba obe does it mean when you grand got married at 14 you also need to get married at 14? You are using a an old instrument to solve a current problem. This guy must go to school other wise all of you who are supporting you will always be a laughing stock in the world. Ba Nine Chale naimwe #11 and #36 we thank you so much for your education but it seems education has not helped you. If in Soudi Province they marry at 11 then you think we should continue with outdated styles. Plz you need to educate others with you education and not be brain drained. Reorient yourselves guys before you support this marriage. What a shame to like Zambian live in out dated world.
