President Rupiah Banda says the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has a lot to learn from the Communist Party of China (CPC) in its bid to accelerate development in the country.
President Banda notes that people entrust a strong, vibrant and good political party with power if tangible development is positively yielded.
Mr. Banda says the MMD and government as a whole has greatly benefited from the CPC which he says is now the world’s strongest political party.[quote]
President Banda observes that China has managed to pull through the global economic crunch because of sound economic policies set by the CPC.
President Banda said this in Lusaka today when a China delegation from the Communist Party of China paid a courtesy call on him at State House.
Mr. Banda said the MMD was determined to strengthening the ties between with the CPC in an effort to strengthen the economic policies of the country.
The President noted that this was important because good policies by the party in government always help to alleviate the sufferings of the people in the nation.
He pointed out that Zambia has further benefited from China through the Zambia- Tanzania railway line through job creation opportunities for the benefits of the peoples in Zambia and Tanzania.
The President further disclosed that a Zambia delegation would soon be travelling to China to explore best was of transferring some of the good policies initiated by the CPC through the Chinese government, to Zambia.
Vice President George Kunda, MMD National Chairman Michael Mabenga, MMD Chairman for Legal Affairs, Bwalya Chiti, and party Treasurer Sureshi Desai were some of the MMD top leaders who attended the meeting at State House.
And speaking earlier, Head of delegation and Central Community of the CPC Gao Guangbn said Zambia has recorded impressive success in her efforts to develop economically.
Mr. Guangbn, who spoke through an interpreter, commended President Banda for his wise and good leadership.
Mr. Guangbn, who is accompanied by senior CPC members, invited Zambia to participate at the Chinese Agriculture Co-operative Forum to be held next year.
He further assured President Banda of continued Chinese investment in various sectors of the economy.
ZANIS
I’m sure we can learn some things about their strategy to improve their standard of living but I’m not so sure if there’s anything we can learn from their communist style of leadership.
Scary. When an incompetent president with dictatorial tendencies wants to learn from the most repressive political party in the world. What next?
Those that have foolishly tried to play with the tiger thinking its a pussy cat have often ended up in its mouth.
I feel there is sting in the tail, I can see RB resigning after losing the MMD presidency in 011. Anyone knows the odds of that coming to fruition considering, It is alleged he is not an MMD member anyway. Evident by the signs of a lot of his entourage belittling, and yet the man remains muted. mmmh..
Economically yes, they have made huge strides. They have even saved the ailing capitalist system.Politically, much leaves to be desired.Power is so much centralised in the hands of the communist elite. Therefore MMD can copy the economic policies and in exchange preach to them democracy. In China,Facebook is blocked and freedom of info is almost zero.
I should have known that “puss” with a “y” at the end would be censored…
All you care about is a govt that will fulfill your socialist agenda. Communism/Humanism/Socialism has failed world over. There has never been any society that has effectively distributed wealth, eradicated poverty and brought about development with this sort of economic system.
Australia, Japan, Britain, USA, Canada, etc all have effective capitalist societies that have worked for these nations in creating wealth.
#3 Let us not be negative with the positives of the nation. Perhaps you must start thinking self-empowerment instead of failed ideologies like Humanism
I am expecting socialist MrK to come and comment on this story.
Its a shame that when Rupiah makes reference to development in relation to China, he can only point at tangible results achieved during the UNIP era. It makes one wonder just how beneficial the relationship between China and Zambia has been since MMD came into power. And please MMD supporters do not talk about the copper mines because while copper prices have substantially increased, it has been at the expense of mine safety and slave wages for miners. Its such a shame that even in that sector, we have failed to improve the quality of life of the people who work to bring this much needed revenue.
Learn technology from China. MMD or Zambia does not need any repressive policies from CPC. Out of the many things happening in China, RB chooses (not surprisingly) to learn from China oppresive political tendencies of China. Uyu president umutwe walifwasa.
Why does that china man have his back turned to the president?.
China makes money from Capitalist markets like America ,Europe but not Cuba. Socialism and communism do not work…large govt impedes growth. The root problem of most African states is corruption and greed.
In China, regardless of who you are, do not steal from the government and get caught, that surely amounts to the most dangerous misadventure here. With cases like the Dora saga, Chiluba’s tragic acquittal and now the Chongwe shame, the communist system would have put Bwezani before a firing squad, blasted him away and sent the cost of the bullet to Thandiwe to pay! Once we get rid of graft from our way of doing things, then we can talk about emulating China and the sooner Bwezani realises this context within which the Chinese economic revolution is playing out, the better for us all.
#12 lubosi every picture tells a story and so does this one. In most cases, the guest and the host will stand and walk side by side and talk face to face because they intend to see eye to eye – but in our case, the host is helplessly marching behind while the guest triumphantly leads the way.
are we seeing this ape travelling to china soon?
#1 Nine Chale, Well said. I was very surprised to read the title and what the President is talking about. Seems like he likes the Communist part of China but leaves out the most important which is the economic style which is not at all communist any more, but purely market driven. The all thing o MMD learning something from the Communist Party scares the hell out of me. Is MMD marching backwards to UNIP Communist party days? If really that is what Banda is referring to, there’s no need to have MMD in Zambia at all. He is trying to turn the clock back to pre-MMD days. Wow.
Communism OUT !, NOT in zambia!……..talk of learning from them chinese as a whole, not only mmd. why should it always be politics (on air) bwana prsdnt.
Totally misunderstood typical of PF cadres. If anything Michael Sata with his lack of education is a hardcore socialist that any political actor in modern Zed. There he is daily calling for blanket re-nationalization and totting a manifestor that constitutionalize patronage as a prerequisite in the public service.Failure to which to job.
Veteran !!we know who you are{job seeker} and once found you shall be taught a lesson so please shut up
Hmm learn what from CPC? How to run a one-party state? Which part of “multiparty democracy” is difficult to understand? That’s what CPC fears and crushes, maybe change the name back to UNIP if we want to learn from CPC. And they can’t even send a guy who speaks English, imagine. Chinese have just come to inspect the country they have now purchased and greet the malonda
Our president is a malonda for the Chinese. Shame
“President Banda notes that people entrust a strong, vibrant and good political party with power if tangible development is positively yielded.”
For once, the President is talking about and has accepted the PF-UPND Pact because that is not MMD he is talking about. Under RB, the MMD is
NOT strong (Solwezi/Kasama lose),
NOT vibrant (He is not the best of examples but Mpombo’s distance, include Gabriel) and is CERTAINLY
NOT a good political party
Over 60% of Zambians don’t trust MMD
#15 Nine Chale good point, one was hoping that the Chinese coming in would help us get a better deal because the west would now have a competitor for our resources.
