Armed robbers staged a day light robbery yesterday morning and went away with more than K30 million from a shop along Katebe street in Kabwe.
Central Province Police Commanding Officer, Simon Mpande and a shop worker, who did not want to be named, confirmed the incident today.
Mr Mpande said the incident happened at about 09:30hrs when three armed robbers armed with an AK47 rifle attacked the shop worker who was about to go and bank the previous day’s collection and snatched the bag that contained the cash.
Mr Mpande, who did not disclose more information on the matter, said police have launched investigations into the what seemed to be a well-calculated robbery.
And the shop worker who was mandated to go and bank the money expressed disappointment with the alleged negative attitude by Zambians of not alarming the police whenever such incidences took
place.
The worker said he was worried that the levels of insensitivity and called for change in the mind set if crime prevention was to be attained.
He said people should help by alarming the police instead of just watching because this could lead to loss of lives in case the robbers triggered the gun.
‘If I resisted, the robbers could have shot me dead,’ he said.
Meanwhile Mr Mpande has advised business houses to ensure they used police to escort them when taking money for banking.
Mr Mpande said the service was free of charge and wondered why business houses continued to ignore the free service of the police when they were dealing in big amounts of money.
ZANIS
Its the culture of Zambia to steal and take what’s not yours.
Our leaders show a good example of this. And the most disturbing thing is that no one goes to jail for it.
Chiluba, Miti…..Maureen Mwanawasa ….
Knowing Zambia police investigations is probably sending a policeman that is drunk to take bullet point notes about the incident which will probably never be solved. One would think so called zambian police investigations are just primary school dictation classes because all they do is write and tell you to come at 8 ‘o clock next day. I don’t know if ZP have improved their response time
Then when these criminals are shot dead you will hear of human rights and other mfyo mfyo mfyo
The question is, How did the robbers know that the shop worker would take the money at 09.30? Could it be some ‘inside job?’
#2 Slumdog shalaz…. ma ma ma ma … my brotha not ZP police mwana… I’ve enough respect for C5.. believe me.. I’ve witnessed 1st hand their wrath and modus operandi.. We we all diving in our offices opposite Fire station across Evelyn hone… trust me.. you’ll hear soon that bandits have been gunned down.. The only problem is the EXTRA JUDICIAL kiiling that they do.. but sort ZP I’ve enough respect.. especially after Mateyo and the late Wazakaza N’guni…
The way ZP CID(C5 & flying squad ) Operate.. it’s a scipt out of a movie.. As we speak.. probably a dragnet has been set up u to Kapiri.. they operate with Intelligence.. They are patient. they even wait for months till their moment.. my guess is those crimminals are trying to leave town with their heist cause they know the’ve been circled. I’ve have little faith in GRZ but massive respect for POLICE force when it matters when things are serious.. no judges, no warning shots.. THEY gun down and parade you body for all to see.. PICS in newspapers and then throw ur carcass at back to C5 Nissan Hardbody van, with excited guys waving AK’s weaving through traffic to General Hospital mortuary.. Then the disappear.. They wear masks in operation..
#4 London Eye I also suspect an inside job… why did the shop worker refuse to be named? The informer definately got a percentage of the loot. At least nobody got hurt.
#5,6 Digga watubika mu filimu…
7# Nine Chale 2007 October.. Nali pa job pa LSK.. aka celo fye around 8:30… people even crossing the road walking past Fire station from the Traffic lights at that Evelyn hone T-junction.. There was a lot of traffic as usual in the morning RED.. The traffic lights hit Red.. 20 seconds later.. a few screams, a car then raved.. two shouts after that.. then the AK47 rang 4 warning shots.. Our office is upstair uand along road so everyone then turned to see what was happening.. You know.. from now where up 5 cars comng fromall direction cut the road, with armed police some in ZP gear acrobaitcally jumpin gout of moving vehicles.. moving into a cordon.. A car bloced by traffic then bashed the car in front.. 3 Armed abndits jumped out.. stopped car going down makishi road to Nothmead…..
At that same moment our very own anti robbery squad rang I think up 7 warning shots.. and took aim at car.. while the C5 units prepared for the chase.. Other units that were on foot unassuming jumping into back of speeding Nissan hard body in chase.. But I’ll tell you after the 2nd AK shot the whole office dived for cover.. there are guns and there are gun shots. but that of the AKmmilitary assult rifle is deadly defening scary thing.. All this happend in a space of two minutes and sevn cars chased down makishi.. 15-20 minutes later.. The C5 boys were standing on top of a convoy of 3 hard white hardbodys lights fully beamed, sweepng the road like presidential motorcade back up the road to same traffic lights then truned left headed for UTH.. much to the stunned somewhat muted
applause of the passers and people standing around and otehrs that had come to listen to the action that happend 20 minutes earlier. kabovas whistled as three piled bodys lay at the back of the not in a hurry C5 bad ass team.. lights full beam. hazards on… was crazy.. we told that story for days… So those bandits trying to speed away in the car they highjacked had there tires shot just before Northmed total filling station and careered off the road.. They got out and tried to run.. but were taken out swifty shot in the back , buttucks by sniper guys in the on rushing hard body.. off course people watching at the scene split.. Ephraim Mateyo was on news then explaining the operation and that for months they tracked the gang who were headed to kamwala to rob Finance Bank..
Tabangala pa Zed ba anti robbery and armed special forces. A career of armed robberies does not pay in Zambia.. At least you wont live long enough.. Uke pushe that gang that terrorised the Copperbelt 3 year ago. Those chaps were killed in a major operation..Inspector General Ephraim AMteyo even warned before the operation began.. people thought he was joking.. the amazing thing is a week later a group of wanted chaps actually truned themselves in saying they would rather go to jail and not be killed by the C5 knowing thats what would happen.. though there are new criminals back on the belt I see kabwe now as well. but the current IG is uninspiring.. just arrests Chansa Kabwela
#5, 6, 8 Digga, I am impressed by your description of police operations, do you watch movies? By the way what is C5?
C5 … soe called .. Is the special anti robbery/terrorist squad unit in the Criminal Investigations Dept of the Zambia police.. the name comes from the numberering of their Office door at Zambia police HQ.. They are in room C5..
Digga, you know the danger of such characters yu laud? Why are they playing judge jury and execuctioner. For all we know these C5 guys could just be killing innocents and the guilty together. Theres no justification for shooting someone in the back or even shooting anyone unless your life was threatened. One day a bunch of ruthless criminals will give the C5 a taste of their own medicine because the rule of living by the gun and dieing by it doesn’t not discriminate.
Digga zo ona mwangufwishya bwino lelo pa LT…I enjoyed reading every bit of your narration. Better than watching “First Blood” or “Total Recall” Lol
anyway that is zambian life…..abantu they are lowly paid and the government is doing nothing about it
Digga, Digggga, Diggggaaaa!!!!!!!!!! you have made my morning man. Good Writing….
Digga, I commend you to join the hollywood writer’s guild. Pure Hollywood. The man was at all those locations !
Great narration and vivid descriptions Digga. But Shalaz is very correct here you cannot be judge jury and high executioner unless it is warranted. You quentine Tarrantino moment has me a little unnerved. Innocent bystanders need not be injured at any cost. AK are not weapons to full around with. More arrests with little bloodshed shall actually show the competence of our C5, thankfully we have them though.
Digga, the C5 guys u are talking about are bad news! Heard about them and believe me, ZP deserves the respect. A few days ago, chaps stole a friends car and we all thought it was gone. through there intel, it never took them more than 48hrs. Some C5 guys actually pose as taxi drivers. Its amazing how these guys operate.
This is amounting to calculated robbery. How did these robbers know the staff will be taking money for banking?Police should instead put this staff at fault and should answer to why this happened coincidence to his job description
I just joined the zambia police as a reserve officer.hey, cant wait to handle dat ak 47 and take down this bandits.
LT please show us the pic, I need to show my friends in S.A, forensic do things in Zed.
Good story from Digga. Just hearing about the C5 for the first time. Being a Zimandola guy, It has made good reading. Keep it up.
Digga you are the man!
Digga uli mukali baaaaad! You are the man.
# 8-11, 13 Digga <<<< Good contribution and Nice of u telling us what u hv witnessed.
haaa. I have also experienced the C5 in live and living colour, those people are quick and dangerous and if u dnt get out of their way, thats ur problem. I was sitting down in a shop and they stopped in the middle of the road, they came from nowhere and started shooting at theives who jumped out of a taxi, am telling you they opened the robbers stomach with bullets and picked his body up and put it in a sack, tied it and drove off.. Now mwe bantu my stupid dog goes and eats the intestines that were left on the road it went mad and ran away… That was a seriously horrific moment and couldnt stand to see the blood pool they left there God and i was only like 4 years old..
