President Rupiah Banda has asked the Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ) team to quickly start working on phase one of the economic zone in Lusaka.
Speaking at State House today when he met the ZCCZ team, President Banda said he would like to see tangible progress on the project by next year.
“We are happy to receive you here. To us this is an important occasion. I want to see progress on the ground by next year,” he said.
He expressed happiness that the ZCCZ team has not taken long to design the outlook of the economic zone.
And Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, assured the ZCCZ team of government’s support for the Regulator Plan of the ZCCZ Lusaka Subzone.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Li Qiangmin, said Zambia would be one of the first countries where China would establish an economic zone following the China-Africa economic summit that was held a few years ago.
And ZCCZ President, Tao Xinghu, expressed gratitude that the Zambian government has fully supported the Lusaka-subzone development project.
Mr. Xinghu said his team has carefully studied the project, whose phase one of construction will commence next year.
The Lusaka subzone will have industries, residential areas, hospitals, schools, hotels and other social amenities.
The development of this zone is expected to step up efforts for Zambia to become a middle income country by 2030.

You recruited theses infestors.. now what quick action do you expect if they haven’t made any viable progress or projects since you invited them in??
leadeship is to listern listern and never stop listerningPlease zambians, see the type of leader you want to have in the name of sata see how he behaved on that international program, so thugerly for a leader,The PF leader, who stormed out of the programme twice and openly attacked co –guest Sharon Freeman, president and founder of All American Small Business Exporters Association for supporting Chinese investment, charged that China was engaged in modern slavery as it was out to **** Africa of its resources.
Please yes change is good, but change should make alot more sense, I would rather we stick to mmd at least they listern when pushed to the corner, I am PF but i was left with no good words for my leader in the manner he behaved on that international forum all sta knows is bush law
I can imagine how Sata is feeling with the hatred he has for the china man.Anyway, bring your money cos a lot of countries are after it.
Will there be Zambian input to this zone?
Industries, Hospitals, Skools, Residential housing, What other development do you want all those who are always against Banda, During the construction a lot of people will get jobs and more money in the city, at least one project if it succeeds will make me forgive Banda’s travels around the globe
Most likely the unskilled labor to build this infrastructure will come from China. Nevertheless, this is a good development.
#6 no doubt about that, obviously labour will come from china, anyway i will reserve my comments for now till i see this developmental plan take off.
Same old BS on a different day.
“As recent history has repeatedly shown, the right to vote, by itself, is no guarantee of liberty. Therefore, if you wish to avoid dictatorship by referendum, break up modern society’s merely functional collectives into self-governing, voluntarily cooperating groups, capable of functioning outside the bureaucratic systems of Big Business and Big Government.
If you wish to avoid the spiritual impoverishment of individuals and whole societies, leave the metropolis and revive the small country community, or alternately humanize the metropolis by creating within its network of mechanical organization the urban equivalents of small country communities, in which individuals can meet and cooperate as complete persons, not as the mere embodiments of specialized functions.” A. Salvation lies within – take time to know yourself. Be at peace with the divine.. it is time to wake up and make amends with your fellow man and ask the divine for guidance. He/She/it is waiting.. has always been waiting. We are looking at the wrong people who have the wrong solution to a wrong problem. Just ask and it shall be given. Why spend a lifetime in pursuit of trivialities and inanities when we have been promised an eternity with the divine? Wake up, it is time you got to know yourself!
The Lusaka Zone will surely add to the wealth of Lusaka residents and will add to job creation.
Not that I’m being “double-tongued” as someone recently labelled me, but I think such an authoritative stance by the president should be generally appreciated and encouraged. The fact that Chinese investors are already in the country em masse is something we have to live with, whether we like it or not, so might as well join them if we cant beat them.
In my own judgement, Lusaka cannot by itself excel into a prosperous city. It needs the said input in infrastructure, industry and social amenity to make it an economic hallmark of the southern African region. On this one, the president has my full support.
Zambia is not Lusaka nor is Lusaka Zambia. It is poor governments like these that think when you repair the Great East Road up to the airport then the nation is developing. Thats why the PF keeps winning the copperbelt
SO THAT YOU CAN USE IT FOR CAMPAIGNING.
#2 YOU ARE OUT OF TOPIC. SATA IS RIGHT 100% IF THATS WHAT YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT.
