Northern Province Minister John Chinyanta has strongly warned health workers in Kaputa and Mporokoso districts that they would be instantly dismissed once they are found insulting President Rupiah Banda and his government.

Mr. Chinyanta sounded the warning when he addressed health workers at Mporokoso district hospital yesterday.

He said he was disturbed to hear that some health personnel in Kaputa and Mporokoso districts were publicly issuing derogatory remarks against the President.

Mr. Chinyanta said he would personally follow up the matter and ensure that those involved were punished accordingly.[quote]

The minister noted that it was a serious offence for anyone, including government employees, to insult the head of state.

Mr. Chinyanta stated that it was unacceptable and a sign of total indiscipline for government workers to insult the President whenever they were frustrated at their workplaces.

He charged that those implicated in talking ill of President Banda would be dealt with once discovered.

Mr. Chinyanta also warned that government workers should not engage themselves in partisan politics.

He urged those with political ambitions to resign from the civil service and formerly join politics.

Mr. Chinyanta further urged civil servants to fully explain developmental issues to the general public and make them appreciate what government was doing to improve their welfare.

  1. Continue dancing and touring the world coz thats what your government is known for.

Happy Christmas to you all and have a blessed new year2010

  2. I think we have allowed this rubbish to carry on for years no wonder such people as Kanyata have the audacity to say what he’s just said. Zambia is a democratic nation and anyone can say what they want, only the law should set limits those limits also need to be in line with our choice to be a democracy. It seems this problem of treating Presidents or the Office of The President like ancient kings or a Monarchy is only in Africa,i wonder what would happen if someone ever trespassed onto the grounds of State House or even get into State House without being detected,i guess they would be the first person to be hanged to death in Zambia after many years of avoiding that practice. We need to move with time,Banda is not a god and he was put into office by the very people that kanyata is warning.

  3. Chitapankwa you have made my day, hahahahahaha. Our families are sane, let them switch of all goverment electricity and their water supply. Zambia shall still operate without them; supprisingly it might actually funtion progressively if the entire government was shut off.

  4. Does Chinyanta realise what he is uttering hinges on treason, because our constitution allows for freedom of speech; only a thrteat on the presidents life should be taken seriously.

  5. Freedom of speech but not insults. yes we are in a democracy but lets use our freedom for progressive thinking by telling off rupia in a humane manner not derogatory, he is just human and a very weak human, too weak for being the president. so lets spare our hard words for real men.

  6. Defamation of the President is a criminal offence in Zambia. Read section 69 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia (Modified since 1931). The same would apply even if it is Sata who is the President of Zambia (Dream on). So you PF kaponyas should spare us your usual ignorance of serious and real issues.

  7. Insults are bad any way. But speaking against the president is elcome please. If the president is d.ull like ours, we must speak against it???? Have u heard Chinyanta?

  8. chinyanta be careful of what you are telling my people. in mporokoso and kaputa we don’t take that shit. we can fix you so easily even before elections. banda must do something to deserve respect and not to force it. as long as banda is governing like a rat or bat we shall talk. healthy works may use bad language if the government is not responding to their problems. banda must earn respect and not command for it. you should comment on what makes people not to respect the president such as fake promises. you better shut up. we are so behind in development and no threat will make us keep quite. chi colour cho

  9. People must differentiate between freedom of speech and insulting an elderly person. These two does not go together. Twilakopa ifyo tatwishibe. Let us take time to learn and do what is right. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean we must not respect abafyashi besu.
If anything goes wrong, there is a way of showing your displeasure (Peaceful demonstration). I don’t know who to support here. Chinyanta could be equally wrong too.He is suppossed to tell the people the right way of doing things than ukutinya abantu. You have no right ukutanfya abantu imilimo for such a stupid thing. Wasting tax payers money to travel from Kasama to Kaputa to just go mukutinya abantu? Friends, you can see the kind of leaders we have. No vision and nothing to tell the people. Zambia will never develop at all.

  10. Then your likely to jail more than the capacity of your jails. Takwaba imfumu iyo tabatuka`anybody who becomes a leader should expect anything. Accually that is the only test of a good leader.
