Milupi’s party not threat to Govt. – Shikapwasha

Chief Government Spokesperson, Ronnie Shikapwasha
Government says the formation of a new political party to be headed by Luena independent Member of Parliament does not pose a threat to President Rupiah Banda’s administration because it is a regional party.

Chief Government Spokesperson, Ronnie Shikapwasha said the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), which is a party in government, is a national party spread all over the country.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha told ZANIS in Mazabuka through a telephone interview that it is for this reason that the new party was not a threat to government.

He said government was also fully aware of Luena MP, Charles Milupi’s intentions to form the party, adding that government was also aware of it’s strengths and weaknesses.

“ We are not scared of the new party now and even in future but what I can assure Mr. Milupi is that his tribal party is not going anywhere and will equally be challenged by other individuals,’’ he said.

Lt. Gen Shikapwasha, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, however said government does not encourage the formation of political parties on tribal lines because such developments were responsible for the current divisions in the country.

He said while government has created a conducive and democratic political environment for individuals to form political parties of their choice, the formation of political groupings should be for all tribes in order to unite the country.

He further noted that Mr. Milupi’s party will also be challenged by other political groupings since the country enjoys a democratic political system.

General Shikapwasha was reacting to Mr. Milupi, who stated during a Live Phone in programme on Mazabuka’s Community Radio station that President Band’s administration has been panicking over the formation of a new political party.

During the radio programme, Mr. Milupi alleged that government has been issuing negative statements to discourage people from joining it because it was made up of vibrant personalities.

He said the new political party, which will be launched soon, will offer an alternative leadership to salvage the country from its economic doldrums.

  1. The only tribal party I know is MMD for Bandas, United Lozi Party (ULP) for Sikota, Luapula BY party, etc. I thought MMD is now more tribal than the accused parties by giant Shikapwasha.

  2. And Mr Mwaanga has urged media organisations to come up with a self-regulatory mechanism if they do not want to be regulated by Government.
He said media organisations must not cry foul when Government introduces a bill as they have been given a chance to produce their own document.
“You know, being a former editor-in-chief at the Times of Zambia, I know that self-regulation is the best and so the onus is on the media to come up with their own regulation.”

VJ was never trained as a journalist but as a “kamucheka” so he should talk about ethics in intelligence.

  3. The Reverend looks like “Ponyax”, even what his right honourable is saying it is like “Tona” story, malabishi.

  4. That is the sleaze Kaunda smeared the MMD with when it was formed until it spread accross the country and uprooted his backside from Plot 1 where he had nailed it for 27 years. Both Sata and HH’s parties are regional and in case Shikapwasha does not realise the Catch 22 he is in, the MMD is now only for Bandas (ba Kumawa) and for a character like him with a name like his, he should forget MMD, “paliye chake ndithu”. He will be wise to form his own Kaonde-Ila party and partner with Miyanda, this is the era of regional alliances (whether you look like Banda on the nose or head or not, you are not related and he will forsake you). So Shikapwanya, washala washala!

  5. #2; Point of correction, Mwaanga was never trained as a “kamucheka”, he was trained as a gigolo by some Ila “bashibukomba”.

  6. Shikapwasha is so irritating,i wonder what people in Zambia go thru just seeing him Chi Banda and Ka Mulongoti on ZNBC news all the time. Kunda is becoming a pain in the backside too,he’s really a changed man or maybe some of us who know him from Ndola didn’t just know how much of a chameleon he really is,what power & money can do eh!

  7. Who cares? Hon Shikapwasha if LPM was to come out of the grave today, he would surely die again after seeing you and your friend Mulongoti. May be he can only live if he sees Namulambe and Mpombo.

  8. In politics, high seats can quickly topple and crowns are easily lost while the “Kings” are busy mouthing down their opponents. Meanwhile, the pact is conquering new frontiers and developing…the countdown is running.. and the sequel is yet to unfold.

  9. Guys have this laugh!!!!!!!!!!!

bigger.his wife prayed God take away the pain en leave the size as it
    is.

  10. 11# please come to your senses ,this is not developement in fact you are the people who need prayers I’m afraid the rate you are depreceiating very soon you will be kicked out of South Africa. Here we talking of people who help to develop Zambia and what you want bring.

  11. Dont that youare going to be in government forever mr Shikapwasha comment with reasoning more enemies in the political arena.

  12. #1 actually come to think of it, apart from those one man commando parties, all parties are tribal. UPND is said to be a Tonga party, Sata’s PF is tolerated because it is a Bemba party, Milupi’s ADD or is ADA, is said to be for Lozi’s, now MMD because of its eastern support, now its for Easterners. Could it be that we are failing to distinguish the party from its party leader, could it be a party’s following is identified by the tribe of one who leads it….just a thought.

  13. It’s true Shikapwasha looks exactly like ponyax, tona’s friend? The way he posed its like he wanted people to be laughing any how.

  14. Milupi has not formed any party yet. He’s still an independent member of parliament. He is a star with powerful reasoning. It’s not him to form a party but the people of Zambia will request him to stand on a new party if the pact has failed.

  15. Iwe Chicago city you are really a diehard tribalist. Since when did Sakwiba Sikota exhibit any tribalist signs. Some of us are related to this man thru marriage. He is one of the most cosmopolitan of politicians in Zambia. To tag someone tribalist because he is a leader of a political party is not only cheap but it says a lot about you mr Chicago city. You seem to tag any party that is not headed by your tribesmen as tribal. Shame on your backwardness.

  16. #18 point at any ULP mp who is not Lozi! Which cosmopolitan is Sikota that die hard tribalist. You are the people who can believe useless politicians when they cheat you that they are not tribal! Chileshe, be informed that most all the current politicians in Zed are damn good tribalist. Chiluba gave birth to this problem!

  17. Time to talk about trabal politics in Zambia is gone.In any case who has not formed any political party in Zambia. It is the pipo of Zambia who support or reject a political party not on tribe but on issues. After all every body in Zambia is free to associate himself or herself with any political party. The late Mazoka initiated UPND, The Late Mungomba initiated UDC, BY initiated RP, Kavindele came up with NP, Sata came up with PF, Chishimba with UPP,Sakwiba with ULP etc can you say all these pipo are tribal NO NO.it is a choice of associationa and freedom. But the pipo choose who is to lead them. After all UNIP was a break away party from ANC.Was UNIP tribal or kaunda triabal.Come on let Milupi express his freedom and the pipo will decide.

  18. chicango city # 1 PF is which tribe? and UPND?.. You Know what my boy chicango city you sound like a lost bemba who still believes that zambia is ‘owned’ by bemba speaking shi mine, get a life, open you eyes and see the realities of today’s life. Sata and chiluba brought back tribalism in zambia today thats why you see all these tribal parties coming up,,,there is NOTHING good about kaponya sata and his cheap boat..i hope you will trade your life in chicango for life in zambia if sata becomes president

  19. Tribalism is almost inevitable when you have a multi party democracy in tribal based communities like Africa. Multi party democracy only works best in societies where people get divided based on ideology. But this is not the case in African society.

Actually as a nation, we have done very well to come this far without serious tribal divisions, thanks to KK’s one Zambia one nation and the one party system. The challenge now is how do we harness the same unity in a multi-party democratic dispensation. Blaming it on Sata or FTJ is to lack understanding. All over the world, in under developed countries, democracy skews towards tribal based politics and /or unprincipled politics where people jump from party to party due to poverty. No ideological beliefs.

  20. # 27 – UK_Zed. I like and agree with your analysis. This form of “democracy” will not help develop Zambia or many African nations. A successful case in point is Botswana where the other official language is Setswana and the one party has been ruling I think since independence. Clearly, the success comes with a benevolent dictator – the trouble is how do you know he or she will be?

  21. A new party by Milupi will certainly weaken MMD base in Western Province, which is a plus to the PF/UPND pact . Go ahead Bo Milupi becoz your party will only be based in Western Province and nowhere else.

  22. Why do politicians in power feel threatened every time someone announces the formation of a political party? These guys should concentrate there remaining energy on delivering what was promised during the last elections, period! Why get nervous with an announcement from ONE independent MP. Who cares whether Banda and company feel threatened or not. That’s B.S!

  23. Then why talk about it? Me I think its a threat to MMD. If you lose WP and HH takes SP while Sata retains his strong holds where does that leave you?

  24. Dead party before it is even born, still born they say in the queen’s language. That is the trouble with Zambia, one milupi makes a few million kwacha from some investment, chairs a parliamentary committee, gets elected to some regional political forum (African style) and thinks that next destination is President which they never reach at all.
