Kitwe woman narrates in best friend’s murder case

Share

A THIRTY- FOUR year old Kitwe business woman today narrated in the Kitwe High Court how she had received a call from a man allegedly informing her that he had killed his lover Stein Lomuthuzi Mwenso.

Before High Court Judge Catherine Makungu was Barbara Chipasha Whiteman, 34 a businesswoman of Flat one, Club Street in Kitwe’s Nkana West, Zambia

This is in a case in which Malcolm Lwamba 24 is accused of murdering Lomuthuzi Mwenso Stein aged 32, contrary to section 200 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Facts before the court were that Lwamba, on May 9 this year, in Kitwe did murder Stein Lomuthuzi Mwenso.

Ms. Whiteman told the court that around 23:00 hours on the material day, she received a call from Lwamba informing her that he had killed her best friend Lolo (Lomuthuzi).

She said a few minutes later, Lwamba called her again asking her to inform Lolo’s mother that he had killed her precious daughter.

She further told the court that when she asked him why he had murdered her best friend, Lwamba allegedly said he killed her because he was tired of being treated like crap.

Ms. Whiteman also told the court that Lwamba later sent her a text message on her mobile phone saying that he was sorry for murdering Lolo and that he was going to flee to the Congo but if caught by the police, he was going to serve the jail sentence like a man.

She further said around 03:00 hours the same night, Lwamba allegedly phoned again asking her if Lolo had really died.

When asked by the defense lawyer Kelvin Bwalya if she still had the message allegedly sent by Lwamba, Ms. Whiteman said it got deleted.

Earlier, another witness Kaoma Mulongoti 26, of P3-03 Ndeke Changachanga Township, told the court that he heard Lwamba and Lolo quarreling behind the house.

Mulongoti, who was living in the servants quarters at the couples’ house, said he was woken up by Lolo’s daughter, Justina and the guard around 22:00 hours and was informed that Lolo and Lwamba were fighting.

He said when he got outside the house, he heard screams coming from behind the house where Lolo and Lwamba were fighting from.

He said he then went behind the house but could not see anything because it was dark but he could hear the couple arguing on top of their voices.

Mulongoti said he called out for Lwamba who told him to mind his business because the wrangle was purely personal.

He said he again heard Lolo screaming and he decided to check what was happening but he could not see anything because it was dark.

He called for Lwamba who assured him that he was not going to harm Lolo.

Mulongoti said later Lwamba came from behind the house and asked Mulongoti to give him fresh clothes from his bedroom because the ones he was wearing were dirty.

Mulongoti added that he refused and asked him to send his step daughter Justina.

He told the court that Lwamba asked his step daughter to get into the house because he wanted to change his clothes.

He further said when he finished changing his clothes Lolo’s mother and the father drove into the yard and Lwamba decided to ran away.

Mulongoti said when Mrs. Stein came out of the car and asked for her daughter, she was told that she was behind the house.

He said when she checked behind the house, she could not see her daughter because it was very dark adding that at that point, a search for her was conducted.

He said that they found Lolo lying unconscious in a furrow behind the house with blood coming out from her face.

Mulongoti said they tried to lift Lolo but her body was slippery because there was water, which was poured her.

He said they managed to lift her, put her in her mother’s vehicle and rushed her to their Company Clinic where she was pronounced dead.

Trial continues.

  1. The names and the details in this story are just as inconherrent as the story itself. Or is my beer beginning to kick?

  2. kc in England, anything mixed with black in the US and most countries in the world is black. Only in southern Africa e.g Zambia, zimbabwe and south africa are they called coloureds. Biology 101 the Black gene is Dorminant thus the expression that is expressed is black. Why do you think Alica Keys sounds good, its her blackness singing. If she had her mothers side she would be as annoying and stupid as Brittney pop spears.

  3. Where are those fools that were making light of domestic violence? Well, well, this is the end result, every time, all the time, always. Change your ways you corward pathetic excuse for men!!

  4. torontonian from zed kc and I were having a great conversation. LT allows a cheap way of communicating with my fellow Zambians on educational delights. hahahaha but you are correct our topic is non related to this one. Thus I shall ponder this one aswell.

  5. # 5 they call it ‘one drop rule’ one drop of blood from a black man makes you black, the I think stems from the Jim Crow segregation laws.

  6. This is a tragic story. The accused is someone’s son and the deceased is someone’s daughter. One faces death by hanging and the other died a horrific death. The whole story is sickening in every way that such a thing can happen to such young beautiful people who are so privileged! These are not the down and outs but decent young people. Whichever way the trial goes, it is tragic in every sense. I feel sick in the stomach. I beg the young man to end this by admitting if he did it so that the parents can move on. I wonder why Kelvin Bwalya is defending, not legal aid. Is the accused from a well off family? Or is Bwalya a relative (pro bono)? This will just prolong the parents’ agony (on either side).

  7. Rest in peace LOLO i new you when you were here in London – UK, sad that a nomal person can pass stupid commits on some one’s death.

  8. Number 5 Lolo was none of those things you have written, you can get an english surname by marriage and you can change your name to any thing if you so wish by law here in England. You must be a sad chap find a life mate.

  9. No# 16 London what warrants my finding a life. My comments were enlightening kc @ no# 3 on some distinctive facts that are not carried by quote on quote mainstream media. At no time am I insinuating anything about the dead lady,MHSRP and prayers for her family. Only stating facts about how Southern Africans are robbed of their heritage and offspring due to the inferiority complexes of a few individuals. Thus I say if the evidence points to the young man, let the full weight of the Zambian law make landing on his sorry head. The saint, what is a down and out? Most zambians are only decent because their folks ate from the nations cake unfairly period.

  10. London at 15 I mean no disrespect saw your posting on this too. My apologies if you misread my post, I do not condone they evil commited. Nothing would make me happier than justice to prevail, especially since the evidence is clear and is backed by several witnesses and a confession. My mistake was to branchout earlier to a destination not entwined with this one. Please forgive my flakiness.

  11. rest in peace lolo.but for lwamba kindly take his case to judge tamula kakusa so the he can handle and

  14. LT as a close family friend to the family, i would like to thank you for the up date. Please keep us informed…..We are in prayer for the family. I really dont understand why people’s coments have to do with colour, names and all that crap…..please you must realise that you are now hurting feelings of people who have lost a loved one by turning this page of coments into something else….Please either pay your condolenses or coment within reason or keep your comments to youselves….we dont really want to know what you think or what you have to say.
