HH for 2011 president campaign badges on sale

Share

DIFFERENT Campaign badges each of them bearing respective portraits of the Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata and United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema as 2011 presidential candidates are being distributed in Ndola.

The badges that are being printed by Shakti Engineering Limited of Ndola upon request from interested respective party members, are also being sold at K10,000 each. An official at Shakti Engineering said customers brought the badges for printing. But when contacted the UPND-PF co-spokespersons Charles Kakoma and Given Lubinda expressed ignorance about the badges saying the pact would come up with a single presidential candidate for 2011.

Mr Kakoma said the badges were not official as the pact would come up with a single candidate as soon as it was ready. He said the material being distributed in Ndola could be the ones that were produced long before the 2008 presidential by-election because the UPND had launched the 2011 campaign for its party president Mr Hichilema as far back as 2008.

Mr Kakoma said the UPND had not yet decided when to hold a convention but that modalities would be worked out to come up with a single candidate when time comes. He said the working committee was already in place working out such modalities that would be implemented at a later stage.

“Mr Hichilema is a president for UPND and Mr Sata is PF president and the two political parties will hold separate conventions. What will happen is that after the respective conventions, the higher organ will then sit and come up with a single presidential candidate for 2011.
We are just a pact and cannot hold a joint convention,” said Mr Lubinda.[quote]

UPND Copperbelt provincial chairperson Elisha Matambo accused the ruling MMD of allegedly being behind the printing of the badges with the aim of destabilising the pact.Mr Matambo said the provincial leadership would launch an investigation to establish those behind the distribution of the different material at a time when the pact was planning to come up with a single presidential candidate.

“Investigations will be launched and if we find out that the people behind this are our members, we will not hesitate to mete out discipline although we are aware that it is the MMD which is behind this,” he said.

But MMD acting spokesperson Mike Mulongoti said the distribution of different campaign materials for the pact signified the serious problems the two parties were facing despite pretending that all was well.

“There is confusion in the pact. The two leaders do not trust each other and that is why they decided to come up with different campaign materials despite saying they will come up with a single candidate for 2011.They are just pretending that all is well and let them not even accuse the MMD of being behind their confusion,” Mr Mulongoti said.

  1. Zed politics just don’t cease to amaze me. Elections are just around the corner and no party has yet to come up with convincing strategy on how they plan to move the nation forward.

  2. Now this is state manipulation. Target the people’s weakness…greed and there will be confusion in their camp. Their no no greater way to terminate an opponent. The Pact should be strong else it will fall to state manipulations. Despite his poor running of the country they should know that RB spent several years in the foreign service hence his and VJs shushu schemes are dangerous.

  3. Viva PACT….just be strong guys and hold till 2011.these are the last kicks of a dying horse!MMD is panicking and will do anything and I repeat , will do anything to bring confusion in the PACT just to see it crumble.

  4. Why do you always want to pile the inadequancies f the pact on MMD. Lets admit the fact that the pact is failing on this part. Whether its MMD or not doesnt matter at this point. They are just playing each other tricks. Lets learn to solve our problems than always say it so and so who has done this thats why I am like that. Thats lacking strategy to me.

  5. This pact as well should try to be one step ahead of MMD otherwise they will be destroyed. Dont leave people in suspense otherwise MMD will use that to their advantange. People are already skaptical about the pact. You better start working had at convincing them you are organised.

  6. Every sound minded Zambian will surely realise that, thats Government propaganda. We are sick and tired of you MMD and your mediocre leadership. Its indeed HH for 2011. Viva Pact.

  7. HH and Sata need to up their game. they need to come out at the right time. too early and the opponent will gain ammunition. its okey like this so that they dont know who to shoot.

  8. Is it a coinidence that both HH and Sata badges come out at the same time, from the same printing company? Can only mean they are from the same source – non other than MMD, trying to devide the pact. Thanks Kakoma and Lubinda for your responses

  9. Strategically, structurally, and constitutionally the HakaSata PACT is a figment faced with many glitches a smart person cannot count it on for 2011.Besides its lack of a spirit and reality of survival, some technicalities clouding this circus of the two misleading tribal men will soon lead the shortsighted marriage of convenience enter into implosion phase.

Here is HH facing an internal revolt as many senior members are at a loss of how to treat Michael Sata for a ages they have known as an intolerable thug. They wonder if the electorate will accept their new turn around! Others are so fearful of the Pact floating Sata as a presidential candidate that they predict that the UPND would lose the voters in Southern Province to the MMD.

  10. Further the position of Southern Province Chiefs on the Pact is a dangerous factor to its survival. The Chiefs have promised to support the Pact only if HH is allowed to be the Pact’s presidential candidate!

However in the event that Sata is made as the Presidential Candidate through imposition considering that they don’t have mechanical and constitutional framework that would draw legitimacy, the Chiefs are openly threatening to shift their support to the MMD as memories of the North – South Alliance are still fresh where Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula (a Southerner)was persuaded to support the Presidency of Kenneth Kaunda (a Northerner) in 1964 and in 1973. Atleat these were statesmen unlike Sata a gazzeted thug.

  11. Let us all PRAY for mother Zambia as we go for 2011 elections. this is 2010 we shall soon be greeted by 2011.Let the pact b e strong because MMD is not sleeping.

  12. The Chiefs insist that the Pact presents an opportunity for Bembas to return the favour and allow them to provide Zambia with a Tonga Presidency per HH’s convenant on terms of ascendary to the UPND top slot against Mazoka’s living statement that those he worked with closely in the executive would better manage the party.

  13. BA daniel b”5″ muleikala fye..are u that slow n thinking to notice this is the work of MMD,look at how ka mulongoti has come out!.if u’ve nothing to say .shut up!

  14. HH need to know that iIn Politics, the worst thing is to trap your members in uncertainty on the fundamental issue of “leadership and legitimate political power framework”. This PACT marriage of convenience has irreconcillable challenges. Voters always align with leadership that is clear, historically risk-adjusted, measured across a broad spectrum of criteria and with a record of holding best practices and building upon them. When these norms are missing in party politics, members become disillusioned and susceptible in the political arena

  15. “Voters always align with leadership that is clear, historically risk-adjusted, measured across a broad spectrum of criteria and with a record of holding best practices and building upon them. When these norms are missing in party politics, members become disillusioned and susceptible in the political arena”.

Sata was in a PACT with Sakwiba’s ULP what happened? Has Sata and his pocketed PF a branch of Zanu-PF clear, historically risk-adjusted, measured across a broad spectrum of criteria and with a record of holding best practices and building upon them.

  16. We cannot blame HH for making hay before the sun shines. Sata and his pocketed PF a branch of Zanu-PF have no clear, historically risk-adjusted, measured across a broad spectrum of criteria and with a record of holding best practices and building upon them record. If he did it to Sakwiba Sikota’s ULP surely HH will be proving himself daft if he vested his future in this circus.

  17. It is just a matter of time before the pact disintegrates. The two simply can not work together. HH, the Calculator Boy as Sata calls him should know that Sata is hell bent on assuming power as can historically be seen from the time he hounded out his perceived threats in the MMD during Chiluba’s third term campaign. He only left UNIP at the last hour when he saw that the party and its govt was sinking. The man is a manipulator, an opportunist and a compulsive gang master who will take advantage of the pact to impose his ill will at all cost.

  18. TWACHULA PAFULA!
Thats why you will continue sleeping and suffering. Thanks for suffering. in short you should keep your mouth shut for being so naive too. have you ever pondered on dthe issue of PAct leadership personally and tried to figure out what would happen either way. Thats hyw I am saying let them wake up and deal with this issue amicably. Dont be in a cacoon and then you start conforting yourself like a tortoise in its shell whilst the lion is waiting. It thinks its safe but the moment it tries movies, then it is hammered. The safety is temporal. thats the same with the pact. If your head is compromised and have run out of ideas, SHUT UP.

  19. I personnaly feel people will prefer HH as president to Sata (Just some new leadership please). If Sata is wise he will stap out of the way and let HH lead the way. At least he will still be something respectiful in HH’s GRZ. Ala politics bwafye kwena!

  20. #11 your reasoning and anylyis is very good. I like it. But with VETERAN, you have lost steam. Your judgement is compromised. #9, indeed you are reading the correct grassrot information. You are right. But I must say that who ever will lead the PACT, it may be HH or SATA or neither of them, the PACT will govern Zambia in 2010. Let us not worry on who. Just the in South Africa, its not about a candidate, its about the ANC. In Zambia, it all about the PACT-period.

  21. Sharp differences:

-Sata is uneducated, insecure impulsive popularist

    -Anti- constitutional individualist

-Has passion for late Idi Amin’s sadistic leadership version of expelling all foreign investors out within 48 hours

    -He is an isolationist

    While on the other hand

    HH is an economic rationalist

    Multilateralist

    Systemic realist and

    A pro-FDI liberal democrat

This is a case of oil and water in a combustion chamber.

  22. Its obvious people would prefer HH to Sata but don’t forget Sata is a strong campaigner and so HH would require Sata’s solid backing throughout otherwise the SBs will swing it MMD way. Even these badges arebeing printed by SBs using their urgents to sow confusion in the pact. Bewrae, power is sweet and those SBs want to protect their jobs.

  23. Iyo ba Veteran muli ba staunch MMD supporter. Even when things go wrong in this miserable party all you say are glories. We majority Zambians are wallowing in poverty under this finnished MMD leadership n we are not happy. Anyway there is solace in the fact that the people of Zambia have now woken up from their slumber. my humble analysis of the situ at hand is that whoever gets the pact president will carry the day come 2011. However, I am personally scared of Sata just as I am scared of Bwezani, their time is up and they cannot bring any good to this precious country. Hope when all is said and done HH will be the candidate for the Pact.

  24. Ka’doyo
You have a point. I wrote similar things yesterday on watchdog site on the topic. i know HH personally. We have chatted several times. I have been to his place. I can call him anytime I feel like doing so and so can he. But of course I may not support the pact for some reasons. However, HH has more chances than Sata. Remmebr that those that support HH may find it extrem, ely difficult to support Sata. they are mainly conservatives. Its a betrayual for them But Sata’s pipo may do that coz they consider him to be a ‘god’ and they will listen when he tells them to vote for HH. However, the pact is going no where and MMD shall still win. thats the only consoling part to me coz I dont see a future in Zambia with the pact

  25. Here I implore HH to be bold enough and get the Pact presidency and save us from Sata’s violence.Sata’s CV is evil and does not qualify him to be a Commander-In-Chief of our peaceful Zambia. The man is reckless in almost everything he does and is a person non-grata as President. At least HH has a relative good history of non violence but his association with Sata is suicidal. He has really put his political career on the chopping board.

  26. #25, You cannot compare the PACT to the ANC. Almost a century old, the ANC has a well defined political, social, economic,.. agenda with clearly defined structures and institutions. That’s more than I can say for the Pact, which has failed to even give the electorate a proper and harmonious manifesto! You are hallucinating to think the two are in any way comparable.

  27. Ka’doyo

  29. # 26 Veteran,

Besides you being MMD spokesperson on LT, what productive activity are you into or is blogging on behalf of MMD your bread and butter? When do you work?

Bring out issues objectively otherwise in the end no one will pay attention to your posts… Idi Amin, zanu-pf, gazetted thug etc. what are you saying???? Iye! Lol

  30. Hmmm… I pity people failing to accept that the PACT is gaining momentum hence these negative reports everyday. The thing is we know this is just a scheme by mmd/mdd to try and force the pact into disclosing its presendtial candidate for 2011 so that they mdd/mmd strategise. Desperate demagogues!

  31. i do like the HH side of the pact but i wish leaders like brid. general Godfrey Miyanda could stnd up there very few leaders as wise and we need him in times like this that our country is going through.rather than wasting time on power hungry people like sata

  32. Our country is supposed to be one of the most developed countries in Southern Africa but everyday that comes we are going backwards and backwards. We have hepled alot of countries but why cant help ourselves by finding leaders with a vision for the future and a very good plan to change the status of poverty in Zambia. Palast kuti watukana WHAT EVER!!!!

  33. Good morning

Interesting political controversies. Mr Lubinda has done well to shed light in the matter by explaining that being a pact, PF and UPND cannot hold a joint convention but have to wait for modalities to come up with a single candidate. Zambians are patient but please don’t let’s them wait too long…

  34. # 39. I hope you’re not freezing there. I hear the weather is crazy!

Back to the issue at hand: Don’t you think it could have been better for the PACT to come up with a single candidate that is endorsed by both sides of the pact? I see it as a senseless waste of resources to hold two separate conventions to choose two leaders, thereafter come and drop one of them as the sole candidate for the Pact. If for instance Sata is chosen as the sole candidate, it would be tantamount to imposing him on the UPND cadres and vice versa if HH is selected.

  35. # 34 Daniel B the thing is if the pact splits its votes between the 2 then MMD wins and I hope that never happens. But we shall waite and see my brother. Ine pa lwandi an definately voting and my vote is not for MMD

  36. Ha, I have missed the fun, to be here in person. This is nice comedy by the MMD. It can win an Oscar!! Am I dreaming or landed in a wrong country. Is this Zambia or Democratic Republic of South Congo?? I need to ask the Pilot which country we landed in. Warizstan????

Africa Cup January, 2010. WorldCup in June 2010. RB NyamaSoya Out 2011.

  37. Time will tell between the two (Sata and HH). Who is more popular? Who has the presidential qualities? When you analyse the two questions you will probably come up with two different answers. Winning an election is about quantity but quantity can also be influenced by quality. We shall wait patiently.

  38. #40 Yes the weather has really gone crazy here…I woke up to find that South Germany is a winter wonderland, with several inches of snow covering everything. The local radio is telling stories of jack-knifed lorries, impassable roads and people having spent the night trapped in their cars not five miles from my home. Thank God I’m still on Winter-break so I don’t have to drive the 5 miles to work today…

  39. Whoever stands between the two, will be voted for as long as it is for change. MMD is trying to push the pact to reveal the presidential candidate by printing those badges. Please pact dont be under pressure just work and tell us who to vote for at the right and appropriete time. This is the reason why some of us will vote because no spliting of votes. so pact take care of the nation.

  40. # 40. Thats rough! Kuno we’re just enjoying the sunshine and contemplating taking a nice stroll to the beach. Hope it gets better for you soon, although from the looks of things it won’t be any time soon. All the very best…

  41. Iwe Danie B #34. We know you, you are the son of newly appinted RB’s niece as first secretary ku Berlin, Germany. Fi family tree fya bupuba.

  42. It always boggles, puzzles and baffles my mind that in Africa, especially in Zambia people force their leadership. Rigging for what. If people do not want you to rule them, LEAVE!, why rig elections.? Give chance to others

  43. Every1 in the PACT including Mwalya Mweka Daddy (MMD) knows that Sata is candidate for 2011,the PACT is simply being smart about it,playing on the minds of MMD & giving them sleepless nights.

  44. Viva PACT no need to worry about kicks of a dying horse. Let us bear in mind that many tactics will be organised just to derail the PACT. My entire clan has already decided to go for the PACT. Let them spend money as we PACT. I am sure they know ati tapali ichabo VIVA PACT 2011.

  45. I don’t think MMD should waste resources printing those badges when they are also going to have a convention and general elections are near, that is where the money must go not on those two. It is not true. The Pact need to work better than they are doing, you know it is not going to be easy for them especially on picking a presidentil candidate for 2011. So people should not even pretend that all is well they have problems just like in any other party. Tell me which party has no problems at the moment? All political parties now have got serious problems such that they have even forgotten planning for national development. They can’t tell the people of Zambia what they are going to do them or what they have done for them. When it comes to the opposition worse, where can one point that…

  46. can’t people plainly see that HH is already campaigning? look at the above dress he’s wearing – it says “HH 2011” – lol

  47. Come on you pipo thinking that Sata leading the pact would alienate voters in the UPND heartland.Assuming thats true,do you remember that PF was only about 50,000 votes short of victory.
Lets assume further that PF and MMD maintain about the same vote share The pact just needs HH to deliver 60 % of wat he got in southern province.
If the rest goes to MMD,what the heck. The pact victorious none the less!

  48. Pact should not complain if MMD are making campaign materials for them.Infact, thats translates into cost saving on their part. Yeah, people please vote for HH or Sata for president, they are both in the pact.

  49. Yes HH is already campigning. can one say the MMD printed his attire to confuse the pact? people you can see for yourselves clearly les us not hate some one for the wrongs he did not commit. I am telling you the people you are lifting now will hate you more than you hate the innocent man.

  50. As long as the 2 chaps do not tell us who to campaign for, our energies as pact cadres will be directed to campaign for whoever comes to mind first. So its Viva Sata, Viva HH for now until the matter is settled . So thank you MMD for the campaign materials.

  51. Yes HH is already camp agning. can one say the MMD printed his attire to confuse the pact? people you can see for yourselves clearly les us not hate some one for the wrongs he did not commit. I am telling you the people you are lifting now will hate you more than you hate the innocent man.

  52. The plan is that the MMD want the pact to come out in the open to say who the candidate is so that they can look for a weakness. And the pact knows that, thats why MMD is delaying to choose their candidate even though its RB who will be the only sole candidate.
So just chill guys the pact knows what its doing.

  53. What has HH got to offer the Zambians? Yaba ku Zambia, this is the problem we have no reasonable candidate aprt from same ….old same old. Its a sad story.

  54. HH wants to pull a fast one on Sata, his supporters do not get it. They think it is RB and MMD. Anything they do not like, it is RB and MMD. I am now thinking that when they lose in 2011 – they will blame it on RB and MMD – circus proper!!!

  55. I think this is a great idea by the pact. The big question has always been how to choose the leader of the Pact. Now all they have to do is to let the sales go on for another six months and then “Hey presto!” The problem is solved- who ever has had more badges sold is obviously the more popular and becomes the Pact candidate. Lubinda and Kakoma seem to be too dull to see this golden opportunity.

  56. Zambians, our problem is that we discuss tools before we define the problem. What is our problem? If this is not answered, then you may get HH, Sata, RB or the Angel himself you will see no benefits. The real problem is that Zambians do not know how to make their leaders accuntable, socially, economically, morally and severally. leaders elected alwatys think they are your fathers. How can, for heavens sake Chulumanda- a call boy become a father to the entire district overnight? Values are built over time and entrenched in society. Zambians, learn to think before you vote. Don’t use mob psychology – that is a recipe for death and that is why Chiluba became President. The whole world was stunned- Chiluba a dagger smoker is now president – wow!! Africa is Africa – hahahaha!!

  57. Intelligentia, so how do we make our leaders accountable socially, economically, morally, and severally? In your own contribution, how do you propose we define our roblem and later our tools?

  58. HH & Sata, keep on working together. it’s good you’ve realised, our biggest huddle is the Common enermy, MMD. It really doesn’t matter to alot of Zambians who becomes President of the Country from the Pact in 2011. The most Important aspect if to remove the MMD, and come up with new policies, which will be PRO-ZAMBIAN and not PRO-INDIAN or PRO-CHINESE

  59. Even an ***** can tell that these are MMD’s campaign tactics. Are the MMD strategists (assuming they have any) this dull?

  60. The Pact must come up with a neutral candidate if they really want a landslide victory in 2011 Given Lubinda would nt be a bad idea!

  61. I dont think MMD is behind this. We have heard both HH and Sata saying they will be stand for president. They are both power hungry. This pact might die

  62. I dont think MMD is behind this. We have heard both HH and Sata saying they will be standing for president. They are both power hungry. This pact might die

  63. That is not a problem, whether it is HH or Sata let one rule. We are in a hury to unify and develop Zambia. But ofcourse this act has blessing from MMD but they will not succeed.

  64. The pact will not work coz both sata and HH want to be president. Wait and see come 2011 the two parties will be on their own.

  65. Do you think UPND in Southern Province will sit back and watch PF’s Sata (who is known to be a common thug) become the pacts president? Do you think PF in Northern Province will sit back and be ruled by a Tonga Tribalist president? MMD knows that only one can emerge president of the pact. When this decision happens too late, tribal divisions will rock the pact and internal firefighting will derail national campigns. Its important to decide on the presidential candidate now and not wait until the last minute. MMD is doing its internal firefighting now and not waiting for the last minute. The last min is for campigns and not internal wrangles. Remember that Livingstone voted for HH in 2006 but within 90 days they switched allegiance and voted for RB in 2008. Dont take the vote for granted.

  66. I would just like to say that have very much enjoyedanalyzingthis information. It makes a differenceto findsomething that is as well though out and instructiveas this. I will definitelybe returning right hereto glance atany updates.
