Korea Routed by Zambia

Share

South Korea began the new year on a negative note, as it was trashed 4-2 by Zambia Sunday (KST).

The Huh Jung-moo’s side allowed two goals early in the first half to midfielders Felix Katongo and Rainford Kalaba in its first friendly of 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa, but it cut the deficit to one on a Kim Jung-woo goal in the 34th minute.

However, the African side, which failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup finals in June, extended its lead to 4-1, as forward James Chamanga and midfielder Noah Chivuta found the target in the 58th and 71st, respectively.

Koo Ja-cheol, who will have a trial with Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League (EPL), added the other goal of the night for the Red Devils, but it was not enough to turn it around.

Dropping the match, which Huh hopes will help his team prepare for their match against Nigeria in the group stage, the Taeguk Warriors have compiled a record of 14-13-3 since the manager took the reign of the team.

  1. Now go and defeat Cameroon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats if the tournament is not cancelled due to the shootings by those ANIMALS!!!!!!!

  2. Zambia is by far the most peaceful country I wish we could reach a stage where we host this cup and show them true African hospitality the Zambian way. Where you can walk the streets and no one will you shoot you.

  3. Congrats lads……..!!! it would be interesting though, to know which of our strikers were featured in this match coz from the look of things midfielders have taken it to themselves to score, its not a bad idea for anyone on the pitch to score but one would want to know the improvement after the long spell goal drought.

  4. Well done boys and I think Korea will not want to play Chipolopolo boys again having been beaten twice….we need the same kind of results for CAN.

  5. good job guys….do the same to Gabon because tilinabo nakakonko(1993 air crush) bafunika che kuponoka maningi..we are behind you Zambia…CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS. this time just live mpolopolo..GO ZED GO

  6. Why doesn’t the article mention the depeletedness (a word?) of South korea’s lineup? I mean it was horrible performance by Korea, however some kind of excuse could have been mentioned.

  7. good job lads , try not to lose the plot against tunisia .Do what gambia did to them yesterday in their own backyard ( 2- 1 ) .Just maybe the similarity of the names “gambia/zambia” might scare the life out of the tunisians . good luck….go go go …chipolopolo boyz.

  8. Its always the same story, please people don’t get excited, meaningless games the boys do very well, but when it comes to the important games…… ni katwishi!!!!, ni kaya!!!they just give people heartattacks

  9. Well done boys, all we need is goals whether from midfieders, defenders even goalkeeper its still a win.For those who say goals came from midfielders, chamanga scored and is a striker. Its the job of attacking midfieders to score when strikers are tightly marked. It also depends on game plan, all attack, counter attack, defensive attack, or even open game will determine which player will be loosely marked and can freely score. Can some body send us fixtures and live streams. im in dark here in asia. The chaps can not show any thing all channels, LT do something.GO ZAMBIA GOOO.THE CUP IS COMING HOME.

  10. defence sorted out!
    strike force sorted out!
you know whats missing? self belief.giving the opposition too much respect when it comes to the real thing.
i hope the team enlisted the services of a sports psychologist as i recommended some time back. we need a built up psyche. if we haven’t then we are doomed

  11. good news!!! my crystal ball says everything is in place.
meaning? 2010, the cup is ours
so i have to to urgently start saving for an air ticket in order to come for the cup parade in lusaka next month
i am actually serious. just to let you know

  12. Go boys i think our midfielders will help us with the goals, seems or strikers are all scared of the goal posts or they are all left footed.lol

  13. I also strongly beleive we are capable of lifting the cup. There is no team we can fail to beat in Angola. The problem is inferiority complex by our players. The sooner we get a sports psychologist for the team the better. without that I can shelve my beleif for the time being.

  14. Watching the boys at the Rand Stadium I must say I was impressed with the way they played. They were hungry for goals, looked very energetic and were excellent in positioning themselves during attacks. The Attacking force (midfield and the two strikers) was wonderful and purposeful. I feel sorry for defences that will mett these guys in Angola. The defence was a bit sloppy. What was interesting to see was that despite Zambia being a stone’s throw from South Africa, their supporters were far outnumbered by the South Koreans who are oceans away from Johannesburg. The Koreans were even beaming the match live to Seoul. If you checked the stadium advertising boards there was not a single Zambian company on it. Dont we have companies that sell to Korea? Like the mines and the farming community

  15. Chipolopolo, this is long overdue guys. This should makeup for failing to make a maiden appearance at the World cup finals. We know you can do it, you have twice come close to lifting the CAN trophy in 1974 and in 1994. This is our year, let us show them that soccer was perfected in Zambia. We may not have the modern infrastructure and financial resources but the one thing we certainly have is the skill.

    Go Zambia,go…..!!!!!

  16. Good for Zambia, but man this says a lot about Korea’s domestic squad. Park Ji-Sung; Park Chu-Young; Lee Chung-Yong; Ki Sung-Yong; Kim Dong-Jin; Kim Nam-Il were all players from foreign leagues who probably would’ve started in an important international game. Also less important, but still players who might get starting jobs or subs are Seol Ki-Hyeon; Cha Du-Ri; Lee Young-Pyo who are also in foreign leagues. I’m sure Korea Republic regarded this as a practice game more than anything and experimented with their players. I heard a lot of new faces were on the list to train in Africa. Also, I’m sure they weren’t used to playing in such weather in South Africa. African teams seem to be a weak point. They haven’t lost to Nigeria in all games played vs them and won 3. And they should be…

  17. This is a wonderful start for Zambia. Go Go Boys. We’re eagerly looking forward to receiving you at the Lusaka International Airport with a Trophy.
However, I must mention that I was so disgusted at the sentiments that our FAZ President, Kalusha Bwalya ejaculated on one program that was aired by Supersport (African Soccer Show). The guy has got no confidence in the team that he is purporting to be leading. What kind of a fool is he???? I bet Zambia will go beyond the so called second round, so that they can prove to both Kalusha that Zambia football deserves respect.
