Zambia team physician Dr Joseph Kabungo has given the squad at the Africa Cup in Angola a clean bill of health ahead of the match against Cameroon on Sunday.
Dr Kabungo said in an interview from Lubango where the team is based that all the players were fit with no major injuries.
However, winger Clifford Mulenga missed Friday’s training session due to a stomach upset.
“Some players have slight knocks but nothing that can stop them from training and are all ok except for Clifford (Mulenga) who has a stomach upset and didn’t train,” Dr Kabungo said.
Meanwhile, the team returned to full training on Friday after taking Thursday afternoon off but not before a light midday workout the day after drawing 1-1 in their opening game on Wednesday evening in Lubango.
Zambia face Cameroon in a must-win match on Sunday in the two sides penultimate Group D game in Lubango.
Cameroon are bottom of Group D with 0 points, while Zambia and Tunisia are joint second on 1 points each, two less than leaders Gabon who beat the Indomitable Lions 1-0 on January 13.
Meanwhile, LT will carry live video streaming of Sunday’s match that kicks off at 20:30 Zambian time.
But why such a fear against a team like Cameroon? They are just like the rest of all the teams. In fact, not as impressive as anyone would expect of them. Another way of finding an excuse? Gimme a break!
It is true………..why even coach of our national side would go saying that the Lion is hungry. What? What about our own Chipolopolo? Herve needs to taken to Luangwa National park so he can perhaps see a wounded lion. Go on and wincos we tired of because of this and that. Afterall we not like dem and thoz.
Its owez we played better but the result is negative…Anyhow, the team showed a lot of improvements in the match against Tunisia..Renards reading of the game is suspicious however,, had he made necessary changes in the game against Tunisia we could have won the game..anyway, FIPUBA FYESU,,,GO ZAMBIA GO..!!
“Clean bill of health” ha ha ha awe lwalinya ichisungu ichi ….lol….
Why is our team intimidated by cameroun, when they spent dollars camping in SA. After all they’re human like you. Wakeup Coach, even RB is a victim of fear now, Yaba.
The Problem is the Cameroon Mauled us 5 – 1 last time with goals gifted to them, naturally we are cared. But then Gabon drew with Ivory Coast who once mauled them last year. So that is food for though. My Only worry as usual is we have been coming out in first round the last three editions of the same tournament. So what has CHANGED NOW with the team to win this edition??? Kindly update me friends.
Aah I was shocked to learn that Emmanuel Zulu is playing in Vietnam. Of all Places, and its real. I think I’m going to Afghanstan to play soccer at 36 years old, I might be called to beef up our squad. Good day to all.
Okay but ubukula bwena, epo bwaba!
Cameroon beat Zambia 5-1 last time which is history, but we beat them 4-1 at Independence Stadium, history as well and then we kicked them out of AFCON1990 in Ageria during the group stage, we beat them 1-0 (late Chikabala goal)
Ba Cameroon are crap
bafikamba bali nomwenso,no need to fear ,chintu kampamba akatwipaisha likula lyamuntu,na kennedy nkethani awamapo..eponapela
The Zambian team physicians need to work on body mass and fitness of our players. We have players with skills but lack tenacity and hunger for scoring goals. We can’t win tournaments with skill alone as Dennis Liwewe once said, we need to include players that are “tall, powerful, dark skinned and ugly” to match our west african brothers. This is why Zambian players never make it in the premiership because they look emaciated. Let’s not let Cameroon intimidate us with their physic. Good luck boys!
Zambia rise to the occassion on this one! I like the tenancity of ka Kalaba, even when we scored he was telling the team to calm down he knows that it takes composure. I expect fire power from the young man.
Zambian players are small and look malnourished just like the ghanaian players. did you all see how they looked much smaller than the ivorians? its was like watching under 14 playing men. Anyway, good luck to Zambia, we can do this.
God bless Africa… and make Zambia win!
There is nothing wrong with being wary of a team like Cameroun. Last time, after they had lost their opening game and we had won ours, we were naive and played a very open game. We all remember how easily they took us apart. This time I reckon we have a chance provided we keep the ball well and avoid careless/loose balls in midfield. Our national team is at its best when they play a neat passing game and we so flashes of that against Tunisia. Even in our illustrious past, Zambia did not have the biggest or strongest players. What we had were players that fought like warriors and passed the ball around like artists. Our style was a marvel to watch (apart from occasional poor finishing) and it was hard for any team to play against us. The attack and defence is the ability to keep the ball.
Sorry, in my last sentence I meant to say the best form of attack and defence is the ability to keep the ball. All the best to Zambia.
hr shud learn to make changes. the katongos were very tired, needed to substitute them.i ve nt seen a coach who is afraid to make sum changes.
what should be the results for gabon vs tunisia, for zambia to stand a chance?
The best result would be a win for Gabon. If that happened and Zambia got a win or draw against Cameroun, Gabon would qualify as group leaders and wouldn’t need a result against Zambia. Just my 2 cents.
i think a draw can b better.in such a way,the road ll b still open even if we loose to cameroun
#17 ife ndife ba zambia & #18Rogue Trader: Please stop praying for other teams to lose. Zambia should win their two games anmd proceed to the next round. As to what happen to Tunisia and Gabon is not our worry. There is a fight in the camp of the lions between Eto and G. Our boys will win these games
#20. Mulena. We all know that Zambia simply needs to win the remaining games. We were only discussing possible scenarios because, as you know, there are three possible results to any match. I certainly hope what you have said about a fight in the Cameroun camp is true because I remember how they lost in the early stages of most tournaments in the 90s as a result of in-fighting. 2010 looks like the year of the underdogs so who knows?
Zambia makula
Eto cannot play alone,it’s KK 11 or never.
#22 wekula niwe.
Ba Zambia bakali. Moonga, wali teapo nabola iwe to refer to others as amakula. Ba Zambia iyeeeeeeeeee!
i wish we could stop this history crap. zambia beat cameroon in 1900 cameroon beat zambia 100-1. football is played on the day. history is nothing but a list of past events with little bearing on the present.we just need to be a better team on the day .
go zambia go, dont follow your past record, just follow tommorow’s record
Please mwebantu learn to support your local team, the problem is we already have our on teams in place or in mind when to begin with we are not coaches and second we have never ever played soccer not even ichimpobwa and at the end of the day its just a game. GO ZAMBIA , GO ZAMBIA,
‘Maulnourished kwena mwalishiba imiponto´ DONT TALK ABOUT THE PAST AND DONT TALK ABOUT THE FUTRUE ;TALK ABOUT TODAY
BA ZAMBIA IYEEEEEEEEEEEE CHIPOLOPOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mwandini ba Chale lets support
Zambia has a big chance, cameroon arent any better. hmm! ni confidence fye.
Now, can somebody who understands better, explain tome what kind of strategy renard employs, namely; playing a debutant (thomas nyerenda) in an altogether new position (midfield) while Chansa and Chavuta the usual midfielders are on the bench? Playing Sunzu (a midfielder) as a defender at that high profile game, while the usuals such as Himonde and Denis Banda are warming the bench? Will I be right to say renard is a gumbler? wrong and too late substitutions!!! hmmmm.
Kalu has failed. He has managed to rip money from FAZ and now he is supporting Nigeria. What a fool of a leader. What is wrong with Zambian leaders. Let us bring back Charles Musonda to Zambia and benefit from his experience.
Can someone help me understand this tactic?

Just hope it wont be “DEJA VU” remember last around we had the same chance of knocking Cameroon out, after they lost the opening game and we won our opening game. We outplayed them yet we lost just like most of games which we lose.
Ba Supporter, I must admit I found the positioning of a few players quite strange but the formation was not too bad. I was more worried about the lack of substitutions when it was clear that at least 3 players were ineffective in the last 30 minutes. Regarding player selection, the biggest problem we have is Kalusha who has created unnecessary problems between FAZ and some our most experienced players. Having said that, we could still spring a surprise. I hate the way the western press branded our team as no-hoppers even before the first match. When, RB visited the team and ordered them to win the cup, the British press reacted as though he was crazy to even suggest that. If only for that reason, I hope these boys remind us all of the KK11/Chipolopolo that once made us so proud.
i still go back to my point of insisting on money well spent on a sports psychologist for the team.
perfect case in point is the recent draw with tunisia. with the necessary psychological make -up, we could have easily maintained our 1-0 lead. could be too late for this now, but its worth putting in place for the future. whilst we are at it, not a bad idea to engage similar services to revamp the national psyche at large; whats all this nonsense about cameron being a wounded lion waiting to wreak havoc and devastation on you? this is just an average team admittedly with a couple or so of megasuperstars
remember the time we whacked them 4-0 at independence; they came boasting of having 9 professionals their coach claiming he had never heard of zambia. i think we had 1 pro then, 2 at most
Zambians are naive. We lost 5 – 1 last time and we cannot psychologically be above Cameroon. However, in forotball, anything can happen. Its the coach’s job to advise players and read the game as it progresses. Every team would have a game plan for the day and whoever outwits the other and players carry out the instructions wins the game. I would have been comfortable with Zambia beating Tinisia as we had a real chance that day. But I am no pessimist but Cameroon are a tough challenge on our current crop of players. Bring Jack Chanda and cameron are dead meat. Bring timothy Mwitwa and egypt are dead meat. Bring Stone Nyirenda and Ghana are dead meat. Go Zambia Go!!!! We are solidly behind yu.
Nine Chale 13, Happy new year, my brother. Here we go again, a brand new year starting on a high note, praying we wont be singing the blues tonight. Zambia can do it, nothing is impossible. Such is the power of the human spirit that God has bestowed in us. It just takes Faith and Belief. Do the boys have it in them? Lets see. All i can say is that the coach has got to have a better plan that he had for the previous match. He made no meaningful substitutions and i think he made a mistake in his selections for midfield and defence. Quality players were on the bench. Win or Lose we are behind Zambia. Therefore, CHIPOLOPOLO! IYE! BA ZAMBIA CHIPOLOPOLO!
P.S. whats the story behind that very ugly kit we were visually assaulted with.We are a sponsored team, surely there are better jerseys around
