POLICE in Livingstone have arrested and charged Sun International Zambia resort facilities manager Dean Pitt for allegedly using abusive language against staff at the hotel.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Lemmy Kajoba said yesterday that Police summoned Mr Pitt to Linda Police Station and a statement was recorded from him.
“I can confirm that Mr Pitt was called to Police after which a statement was recorded. He was charged for using abusive or insulting language. The matter goes to court next week,” he said.
Mr Pitt, too, confirmed in a telephone interview that he was called to the Police Station in relation to confusion and alleged use of insulting language to staff at the resort last Wednesday.
“Yes I can confirm but am not in a position to give any details because I have to sort out issues with management now,” he said.
The resorts assistant financial manager David Chisupa said in a separate interview yesterday that the insults were allegedly uttered after some workers went into a frenzy when a snake got into one of the offices.

Good, deal with him appropriately. We are tired of investors who take us for granted!

deport the chap..areb they now accpeitn snakes in the rooms??we don’t need insultants in zambia…
This was a very good move pantu these chaps they delela too much. Well done police.
These chaps grow big-headed when they become bosses. Can he be deported please!
This David Chisupa really job hops but then gets fired..now he is at sun hotel from access bank..nako uko bazakupisha!!! too boastful i.d.i.o.t
Kick his ass out ! In their countries, you are always reminded by their behaviour that you are a foreigner.
As usual, LT has given us a half baked story. It is all scattered, we need to know what he said. we need to know how a snake can lead someone to be arrested. How did the snake get into the office any way?
🙂 great.
That evil should be deported right now. He has no place in Zambia. Let him go to his country. I just wonder why these evils continue insulting us even in our country. KABILI NGANI INE KUTI NAMUTOBA AKAPUTI KUCHULU. [-([-([-([-(
A waste of public resources and court time. The poice should be dealing with more pressing criminal issues prevalent in the country.
This issue should be left to be dealt with through the employees’ Union or the aggrieved parties can sue individually or as a group.
Waste of time by the police.. What kind of insults did he use to waste our court time..
its good to learn that these cases reach the police so law can take its course. having experienced victimisation at work myself, i think alot has to be done. I was among workers who were treated very poorly by a CEO`s wife. we were employed by a company with proper operation structure but after it was privitised. we were at the mercy of the new management. the HR didnt care about the workers. conditions of service didnt mean anything anymore. and the people who are apointed to protect the welfare of workers were busy securing there jobs. and if there is a place were people know muzungu anikonde its Z. I had just come straigt from college, when i complain to my superiors they took the side of our boss´s wife who has no right let alone not employed to run afairs in the company CONTI
eventually it got to the media (post as usaul) the story ru in the paper the CEO was deported to zimbabwe ,, he came back after negotiation but his wife remained in zim when he was recalled but it didnt take long before he lost his post as presure kept mounting. the CEO was a good boss i enjoyed working under him but his wife dint respec t the law let alone worker.coming from zimbabwe were the white/ black and boss/servant mentality is so obvious she thought she could do the same in zambia..
we need to find for our rights n respect.im glad action was taken by people that came after i left the company. hope others can work happily.
There is no problem in this matter. Those workers should have just insulted him back. That is what we do here ama niga nga yatutuka. Becauase with most foreigners what we call insults is thier normal volcaburary. They do it alot among themselves.
Very dramatic stuff going on here. At least the man was upfront and bold enough face the charge although there’s not even any critical evidence of what he said. I think he should be forgiven. After all we all say bad things to each other sometimes. If insults were always taken this seriously, most of us here would be serving time by now.
must read …bold enough to face the charge.
the labour laws are so weak and we respect foreigners tha the local people, that is why the so called investers take advantage of the local after all when in trouble he can just give a brown envelop under the table.
# 15 i believe that we need to respect the law of the land we are in. remember there is a difference in work and social culture to be considered. if treating workers in souht africa and zimbabwe is acceptable,it does not mean we have to accept it..i believe that before they travel to work in these countries, they are given orientation whee they are told of culture, language and social issues that they may come across. if found guilty, their permits should be withdrawn.
Why was the matter reported to Linda police station when the incident happened at the hotel and the Falls Police station is just near by. Sounds fishy. Maybee the complainant has a relative Police Officer at the Linda Police Station.
:d no# 15 Kadansa wanitekunya mwe, but super gal is right walk away from some issues. If I had a company 10% of bloggers would be on my board of directors, 85% working just because not all can be directors at once, three percent would be temps; while the other two would be on wait due to prayers of cleansing of their distorted perceptions. Great fact is Zambia is gaining in police civil suit competence. The man I agree too Nine Chale should be forgiven.
We should not rush to conclusions. In such cases an investigation has to take place. Unfortunately some of us have got a vendetta against foreigners. We always assimilate their positions and dream to one day take over. Innovation is key to Zambia’s success and we should attempt to be proactive in the way we do things. I do not encourage abusive language from anyone be it an indigenous Zambian or an alien. Let us wait and see as the truth is being computed. Myopic thinking should not be condoned.
In some muzungu countries, such things are taken to employment tribunals and when cases are proved against culprits like this, companies pay through the nose. I think the Zambian government should set up an employment tribunal rather than an industrial relations court where cases take ages to conclude. Another negative factor about the IRC is that the people who sit on it are corrupt just as other judiciary wings. Mwapya Bakapala.
:d
Will Banda and KK be arrested for insulting Zambians like Mpombo and Sata? I might be stirring a hornet here. But I have to ask, why was he insulting them? How many did he insult? Could it that he was frustrated due to some Zambians’ work ethics and habits? As you may know hotel business is fast and customer oriented. What led to his reaction? Why do we rush to deportation? Is this a police case or a labor relations issue?
More details is needed about this this story.Do not leave work before time, be faithful. ulezi pa Zed, we want to work while the supervisor is around. No deportation.
when did insults become a criminal offense not because i support a foreigner just curious.
Some other lodges have mzungu management who abuse their staff verbally. It is time that staff take action as slavery is over in Zed. Livingstone people are only getting so much out of tourism, the real income is not benefitting us.
Shi Muchita; insulting people is criminal offence in every country, otherwise people would not hold back in their wording.
This is so typical. In our own Zambian culture we are very respectfull but also very rude and abusive. It is nothing for us to hear Zambians insulting each other in Bemba and Nyanja all the time. But a white simply says for f*#% sake and he is now accused of insulting somebody. We Zambians need to be fair with these issues. Soon we will be like Uncle Bob in Zim and Malema in SA. An insult is not racism….even in court can they even charge him for insulting someone???
Lets be real. If we have bad investors then lets make proper complaints and have permits revoked. Ti Enda pamozi
