FORMER United Party for National Development (UPND) chairperson for Agriculture and Cooperatives Simon Kunda has said party president Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to form a pact with Patriotic Front (PF) was an indication of his failure to provide quality leadership.
And the National Revolution Party (NRP) has accused Mr Hichilema of dribbling his PF counterpart Michael Sata by engaging him in an electoral pact that the UPND leader is sure will not work.
Mr Kunda said the move was out of the realisation that the UPND was slowly becoming weak as well as Mr Hichilema losing popularity, especially among his members of Parliament (MPs).
He said Mr Hichilema should not pretend that he went into the pact with the PF to remove President Rupiah Banda from State House.
He said Mr Hichilema’s decision to form a pact with the PF was a clear indication that he had failed to provide leadership and now wanted somebody to help him run the political party that was once vibrant and reputable.
Mr Kunda said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that Mr Hichilema’s decisions were unpopular among his members and that was why the party was slowly going into extinction with some vibrant MPs suddenly taking a low profile.
He said if UPND members were not careful, their party would be swallowed by PF and it may be too late to reverse the damage.
But UPND chairperson for publicity and Information Charles Kakoma declined to comment on the matter.
And Mr Kunda has said it was unfair for opposition political parties to continue accusing and attacking President Banda over corruption and tribalism when in actual fact they were also practicing the same vices in their political parties.
Mr Kunda said the MMD has tried to fight tribalism by ensuring that it has structures in all parts of the country, unlike some opposition political parties that were known to be tribal because they were only concentrated in certain parts of the country.
I have accessed a full 90 minutes interview of late Mwanamubotu Anderson Kambela Mazoka founder and UPND sage. We will buy air and print media time to rerun the interview for the National audience with platforms like Muvi TV, QFM, Hot FM, and all ZNBC channels. Late Mazoka foretold this UPND crisis brought by the impunity of Madyekuku, Sejani and Mwnanjiti.Andy said that in advent of his death, only the skilled technical senior members he founded the party with and served it in his absence were the best to protect and realize its vision. He said any imposition would define a disaster. Hardly 5-6 years in the Grave where he is turning; has his UPND become a shell of a political party in political Cul-de-sac. The Tonga only creed has inoculated the once formidable party in waiting.
This might be the end of UPND
Mazoka and Dean were the best opposition leaders that could have removed MMD from power. Its a bit death took them away from us.
Politics in Zambia will continue being led by MMD because we do not have strong opposition that have our interest at heart. If PF & UPND were really serious, they could win the next elections but the problem is that both leaders want to be presidents.
Senior Citizen. Good morning, I agree with you
The day tribalism too precedence of national interest, that is the day UPND relegated itself to political achieve. Sincerely, what happened to seasoned and founding leaders like Patrick Chisanga, Bob Sichinga, Kahaye, Sakwiba Sikota, Simon Kunda, Emmaunuel Hachipuka and late Henry Mtonga whose funeral contributions Sata stole leaving the widow and orphans dismayed was scandalous. The Tonga only doctrine confined the UPND to irredeemable coma in the ICU. HH has no ideologue, vision, strategy or national constituency. He is a political crosstitute moved by myth and fiction of counterfeit alliances and deals.
I meant its a pity…….
The day tribalism took precedence of national interest, that is the day UPND relegated itself to political archieve. Cry cry beloveds, MMD is longing for a credible opposition to intelligently foster checks and balances a mandate the HakaSata PACT politicals of evolving around insults has lamentably failed to deliver.Since Mazoka, Dean Namulya Mung’omba and Major Wezi Kaunda were called home to be with the Lord, MMD has missed an opposition it so want to have.
Njobvu Kazi, Good morning. You sound so hopeless and dejected. Never lose Hope my friend. There is someone out there who is going to liberate this country from the clutches of thieves. Don’t be pessimistic. Andy and Dean are gone. We need to look forward.
PF and UPND should merge to resolve their shortcoming. UPND has some tribal attributes, while PF has some rigid democratic structures it came with from MMD. I think the merger of these two parties would give Zambia an alternative. HH and Sata would compliment each other very well, if this marriage made in heaven , I don’t know….
Worry not for things are going according to plan by HH and the mighty UPND. UPND in its clever way of doing things entered into a PACT with PF probably to swallow PF in light of the NCC that has been going on to come up with a new upgraded Constitution of the Republic of Zambia. Using this strategy the UPND under the visionary leadership of president HH even expanded its NMC and NEC to include 2 more Vice President positions among others updates. Since the vice presidents are now 4 positions and two are currently filled in, the PF unelected leader since 2001 can be accorded one UPND party vice presidency while he brings all sober PF members to the party. This seems to be the only way Mr Sata MC will keep his political aspirations since the NCC’s degree issue is annihilating PF…
To those having difficulties understanding or accepting my submission above, I would like to remind you that the Vice President of Zambia will need to have the same qualifications as the Zambian Presidential candidate which include a degree from a recognised university. Now looking at the fact that PF’s Sata MC or vice versa and Given Lubinda both do not have university degrees looking at their CVs on National Assembly website and michealsata. co. zm, only PF vice president Dr Guy Scott and PF Secretary General Winter Kabimba qualify to deputise possible UPND-PF presidential candidate HH. Alternatively, Mrs Dr Kaseba SATA can be placed there to console PF emotional cadres of what might be revealed to them soon.

Matt 6
Sata during the run up to 2006 election once said ‘all I need is to win CB,luapula, northern, lusaka and central then i will in state house. He denounced the pipo of north western in 1994 when mulemba was president of National Party. Furthermore, Sata during the lukasha by election in 1994 accused the late emma kasonde of having betrayed bembas by joing a party (national party)from other provinces, He went to say E.K had even allowed his daughter to marry a lozi. In 2006, he said Barotse agreement was a non starter, a lozi problem. Since then he has never had +ve result from western, Northwest and southern. HH chased all westerners and north wersteners at the UPND convention. all of them ran to arcades. Results are there for everyone to see. History.
Ba Moze good morning… PF and UPND pact was doing fine at the beginning but as we are heading closer to the elections, confusion begins. I had so much hope in them but now its seems it wont work…
We really need a different party in govt so that we can see what happens…
I know we have to forget Mazoka and Dean but it is such situations that make one start thinking of what might have been if two good leaders were still alive…
Continued.
In order to help Mr Sata remain powerful in the Zambian politics, he does not need his vice Guy Scott or Sec Gen W. Kabimba to be possible Zambian Veep to HH as he will lose authority of being PF leader to someone in GRZ. Therefore, the logical this to do is let him join the mighty UPND as a vice president and allow his wife Dr Kaseba to be HH’s Vice President if HH becomes Zambian President since Mr MC Sata and Mrs Dr Kaseba are one — in light of the Holy Bible. The advantage of this configuration is that Zambia may have a first female Vice President while Mr Sata can write Grade 7, 9 and 12 exams as well as do a first degree by correspondence by 2016.
In 2016 Mr Sata MC can then challenge other UPND contestants for party president since HH will not be eligible to stand again for that position. This is more reason why PF must now and not later begin to gradually disband being swallowed up by the UPND Team to form only one single strong opposition political party that will not be linked to tribal or regional groupings.
If PF or Mr MC Sata does not heed to this call, let him be reminded that the mighty UPND can still go it alone in the upcoming 2011 elections while Mr Sata and his PF watches the Zambian Presidential elections take place from the terraces. Very sad that this is happening but UPND do not worry yourselves as Mr Ken Ngondo has pledged to support one strong opposition party against MMD. Nawakwi also said a similar thing.
#9 Maestro Hakucincha _ Musankwa so you are alive? Good. But I wish to ask you to tone down on your tribal leaning because this not what the Pact is all about. To me it doesnt matter whether its HH or MCS who leads. What is required is tact to choose between the two one who is certain to bring enough votes to kick out the Mad Mandrax Dealers from the face of the earth.
Thanks though their is nothing tribal about my comments unless you have a serious analytical problem. NCC’s degree clause on the Zambian Presidential Candidate has made the PACT’s presidential candidate choice easy. In fact, HH qualifies under NCC recommendations and so instead of bickering let the PF-UPND PACT start campaigning for HH as presidential candidate for 2011 tripartite elections now.
Mr Sata can try the Zambian Presidency in 2016 while his wife breaks a record under HH.
By the way, Ms Nawakwi had earlier indicated that she is ready to support president HH just after the Chitambo by-elections when she expressed concern over the manner PF conducted its campaign.
Just sober up, there is no need to worry about HH’s tribe. Just accept him leader in National interest…
The percieved “hiccups” in the pact are a normal occurance in any union. Mind you the shushushu are on the ground to decredit the pact. The beauty is the little “percieved” storm will pass and the pact will stand as one and win the elections. Already Ngondo, Miyanda are about to join the pact including Nawakwi. The MMD are jitterly cause they have to deal with the pact on one hand and Magande/Maureen Mwanawasa team challenge to RB. NyamaSoya panicky now. 2010 into 2011 will be interesting. Sata has more MP’s and had more votes hence he be given a chance next HH afetr 5 yrs. Period.
# 14 Maestro Hakucincha do you believe what you write or you just do it for fan ?
Mugungulu H. Mwaanga aka Maestro Hakucincha you are so disgusting in your role as HH’s cheer leader. What a muppet! I concur with Bra G when he asks”do you believe what you write or you just do it for fun?” In your eyes HH is a saint who can do no wrong. You claim to be a christian and yet you worship this idol of yours called HH!! You are the one with a serious analytical problem. The UPND has dwindled in significance since your HH took over as leader. As a matter of fact he is more of a liabilty than the valued asset you make him out to be. Give us a break bro!!!!
Whether pact or no pact MMD must go, there is to much unip in gorvernment.
Please let’s just help the PACT to Organize itself. Let’s not start exchanging bad words. Honestly we need to remove the MMD we have had a lot of it. Nothing is improving in this country apart from the few in MMD. VIVAAAAA SATA, VIVA AAAAA HH.
If UPND is dead why did they win solwezi central by election can this SENIOR CETIZEN AND NJOVU answer this ?your MMD is going NO WHERE WHETHER YOU like or not BWEZANI kumunzi come 2011. BWEZANI CAUSED THE LOSS OF 95% ward by election to UPND check your record

Hey my fellow bloggers! You amaze me. I salute some of you who are contributing positively to most of the issues posted on to this web. I urge you guys who are fond of opposing even where you are not supposed to oppose to stop and start arguing constructively. If I remember well, most of the people called for a merge of UPND & PF. That’s what these guys did. Today, you are turning the tables and start blaming them. You have no good guys. Any way to the well meaning Zambians, please, come on, lets support them.
For sure ladies and gents of Zambia MMD might exit. I not 100% correct but I am able to see another 1991. These people who speak against the pact are just MMD fellows. if only these mature leaders of the pact can work together and follow what the council will say about who to be president then everything will be cool. I am sure they are doing everything possible even when we see disaster eminent. but for now let use keep our fingers crossed and wait like this :-w:-? before we see people cheer for victory like this:d/:x while we see others like this 😮 ukudabwa while packing some katundu from the state house back kumawa and now the issue between Sata and HH will be like this :”> and and me will be like this :)>-::((
Peace Maker
Debating this article does not mean that I’m in support of MMD or any other political party!!! What I wrote is my option and I stand by them. If u read my comments clearly, I stated that PF and UPND can win Presidential elections only if they agree.Point of correction winning a ward by election does not mean that they will win presidential elections more especially if they are sending wrong msgs to the public i.e confusion in their marriage(PACT). :)>-:)>-
#26 Some of us are slowly pulling out of this nonsense, and it is clear confusion is coming, because January is over, and soon we will be saying December is here and we still we dont know who we will give our vote to. And we are chaeting ousrelves in thinking that we will accept which ever candidate (SATA or HH), that is the biggest joke, because even here on the blogg, most of them would rather their party president leads the pact, and you can even see that UPND had hoped to cut Sata off by voting for degree clasue at NCC, yet Sata has shocked them by producing a degree, and their hopes have once again been slashed to ground level. So really ni kaya, we are gonna wait and see if it will fall apart, or will put itself together.
Tonga Cow #27, patience pays! Bola panshi. Just sit back and relax. Tha Pact is here to stay!:)>-
Good comment from Kunda who was one of the senior members of UPND under AK Mazoka. The party under HH has been reduced to a Tonga Cultural Association. There is very little difference between him and Madyenkuku and Sijani. People like Kunda ,Mtonga,Lubinda etc were ejected from the party because they are not Tongas. Charles Kakoma could not comment because he is aware of this fact. The Pact under this man risks being reduced to a cultural grouping as he would only listen to his tribesmen or personal friend like Kakoma. Kunda and others from Luapula/ Northen worked alot to market the party . He has the right to say what he said.
I am not seeing HH’s supporters voting for the pact if Sata so they should just split.Maestro Hakucincha’s type are full of hatred for Mr Sata.
LT, who is the author of this article? Bloggers, why make comments on an article that does not have an author? And why is it that only “former” UPND or PF members are out criticizing the pact? They have nothing else to do other than looking backwards to their former parties? When you are “divorced” from your political party, it is time to move on …
