Charles Milupi wishes other groups did not boycott NCC

Luena Independent Member of Parliament, Charles Milupi has charged that if only some groups and individuals did not boycott the National Constitution Conference NCC, the ruling MMD would not be taking advantage of the people of Zambia in the constitution making process.

Mr. Milupi says while those opposing some of the clauses the MMD selfishly wants to include in the constitution might have a strong voice, it is only backed by a few individuals willing to see the people of Zambia have a constitution that will stand the test of time.

He says there are those in the NCC like himself who are willing and determined to put up a good fight and ensure that the views of the people of  Zambia are reflected in the new constitution.

He adds that while it would have been better to have more people fighting for what the people want, the few already in the NCC will ensure that they give the ruling party a good run for their money.

Meanwhile, Mr. Milupi has argued that it is illogical for the MMD to push for a simple majority system when everywhere in the developing world they are using the 50% + 1 vote.

He says the 50% +1 vote clause will protect the country from allowing illegitimate people into power and ensure that democracy remains the cornerstone of the nation.

  1. Its amazing how some uneducated MP’s in MMD who graduated from cadres to MP’s and other individuals sitting on NCC are pushing for a presidential degree clause in new constitution when themselves dont hold any form of degree, pety politics.

  2. THEN THEY MUST EVEN SAY A VOTER MUST BE EDUCATED..THATS WHY IN GREAT COUNTRIES LIKE USA HAS ( Electro College COLLEGE AND POPULAR VOTE.).COZ MOST VOTERS DONT UNDESTAND GRZ AND POLITICS..IN ZAMBIA WE COUNT ON A POPULAR VOTE ONLY ..THATS WHY WE HAVE MPS WE CAN NOT EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH OR COMMON LANGUEGE..NOW WE SEE MPS IN ZAMBIA SITING QUIET ..PEOPLE LIKE MUNAIRE THAT FOOTBAL PLAYER SURELY WHAT CAN HE CONTRIBULT TO THE NATION DEVELOPMENT..AN MP IS NOT EDUCATED DOES NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING AND WE HAVE PEOPLE WITH POLICAL SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE WHO CAN NEVER EVEN STEP IN PALIAMENT….BA MU ZAMBIA BA MU NATION

  3. Zambia has been dribbled again. RB will win the 2011 elections long before a single ballot is cast and will probably be president untill 2016 unless he dies. He will probably try to argue for a third term by claiming that the first 3 yrs of his presidency did not really consitute a term. Or by claiming that the new constititution resets everything so his first term will be after rigging 2011 elections. Watch them people, after they “win” the 2011 elections, mumurs will start about wether or not the first 3 yrs constituted a term. I am willing to bet a lot of money that RB like Chiluba will not leave honorably. He will only leave once it gets into his thick skull that he cannot dribble all the time. And I think Dora will be coronated next and then we will start this $hit all over again.

  4. 4 and 5, You are just hallucinating. You spend your precious time suspecting everybody and everything. I wonder whether you even trust your wives and daughters. When will you guys ever come to your senses?

  5. Honourable Milupi, sure mwenze kuni? When the government was pleading with PF and others to join NCC you were quiet, thinking that the boycott did not affect you. Now that you have formed a party it becomes an issue? This is the kind of selfishness and poor vision that we talk about in our politicians. And you want to be President of Zambia? Clearly another of our selfish politicians who only think of their pockets. Guys, if RB is bad, then the rest are baddest.

  6. IWE NUMBER 6 ..I HAVE BEEN A MONITOR BEFORE ..2001 ELECTION AT MUNALI..I REPRESENTED AFRONET ..I KNOW WHAT AM SAYING..RB IS GOOD TO ME..RB HAS BROUGHT PEACE AMONG LEADERS..BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TEAMS IN OFFICE..5 YEARS WILL HE ACCEPT TO LEAVE??THIS QUESTION IS IMPOTANT MY FRIEND..ITS JUST A QUESTION

  7. MILUPI UR F OOLISH: THE SAMRT PEOPLE STAYED AWAY FROM THE NCC COZ THEY KNEW IT WAS AN MMD TRAP, U AND THEM M UTHAFKZ COZ U LOVE MONEY MO THAN COUNTRY, TOOK THE S TUPID ROUTE. STOP BLAMING PRICIPLED PPL B ITCH!

  8. Poverty is what led Milupi and the other clonies to join the NCC. That gathering has never been enndorsed by the people of Zambia and there is no way any right thinking Zambian (which included noble NGOs, The Church and the PF), decided not to join. These are true compatriots. You seem to have wasted a lot of your time taking about a document thats doesn’t add any value to this society

  9. Pro Clive Chirwa joins the UPND-PF Pact under the umbralla of UPND, this comes after his resignation from MMD yestarday.

  10. well milupi can go on wishing.the zambians have thru the media dismissed the ncc.and if he wants one day to rule zambia ,he must be able to read public opinion.the NCC has the mandate of the mmd ,but we are not worried because the ncc is now exposed.so what is there to wish for ,maybe to wish milupi would come to his senses and support the pact

  11. Does the Prof. know how the calculator boy made his wealth. We hope the corruption fight will continue and will not spare anybody.

  12. Number. 9 Learn to respect others and exercise wisdom. You are the same foolish academicians hidding in America after failling to contrribute positively to your economy.

  13. This is a disappointing comment from Charles Milupi M.P. Wishing – such stories should not be aired. And who tells him that people that boycotted were wrong. They could have been right by boycotting and therefore they do not lend credibility to the whole process. Where as those who participated have given their stamp to the collective process, and have ‘blood’ on their hands – so to speak. Charles Milupi should not be commenting like this he is a very credible individual in this countryn and we want to reserve him for good things in future.

  14. UNIP boycotted some elections in 1994? and that was there demise after having retained a couple of seats in the previous elections.
By Boycotting the NCC deliberations, some learned and influential people have lost the opportunity to contribute to a sustaining and all inclusive Constitution.
Milupi is very right on this One.
Just met the man in London yesterday and he left a very lasting impression to the delegates.
Reminded me of the late Anderson K Mazoka.

  15. thats rite Milupi, and now why should they be crying over spilt milk when all this nonsense would have been avoided?history will judge them..those participating..thanx for the good service…Chirwa in the pact..viva ..Eastern province is ours now!!

  16. Good Afternoon

I must agree with Milupi here – boycotting the NCC was a wrong move. The masses who refuse to take part in the constitution making process will forever remain dominated by constitutional laws made by a small number of power players. I see no other veritable platform for opposition parties to play a pivotal role in the democratization process at the momment. The way things stand, I also wont be surprised if MMD wins the 2011 elections again.

  17. 6 and 15 i think you are both mmd dick lickers in fact any body who is against the pact he/she is a MMD DICK LICKER

  18. DUNCAN NYIRONGO # 14, AM DOING SUMTHING BY NOT LICKING BOOTS OFDESTROYERS OF MY COUNTRY. READ THE HISTORY OF MILUPI FROM ZCCM WHERE THEY SOLD CDC THE POWER COMPONENT OF ZCCM TO THEMSELVES?? DO YOU EVR IN YA SANE INTELLIGENT MIND THINK MILUPI, HH & FRANCIS KAUNDA ARE NOT PLUNDERERS??? NOW AN I DIOT LIKE HIM DDNT SEE THE PROFILE OF NCC WAS AN MMD MAKING! PPL WITH FORESIGHT REFUSED TO JOIN IT. THE CATHOLIC FOR ONE IS A SERIOUS CARING INSTITUTION. NOW WHN HE REALISES THT ITS A TRAP, HE CRIES CROC. TEARS.. COME ON DUNCAN !

  19. The ‘degree’ clause seems to have an underlying agenda to it. If it is meant to ensure credibility and competence those people are whistling in the wind. We have a cabal of people dominating the political landscape who are part of the problem that afflicts Zambia and other African States. All the educated and not so educated people have not taken Zambia forward in an overly significant way, the evidence is all around us; the persistence of poverty and related afflictions. Until the day we have real progress we are basically scrabbling and running around in the same mud pool others have occupied before us.

  20. #22 Soothsayer It’s like the French Revolution in reverse. Aristocracy seems to be replacing economics as the driving force of African politics again. The aristocratic politicians are the ones who sound authentic, as if they are speaking from the cerebral cortex and yet they are just faking it. The ultimate crime in modern African politics is appearing to take the voters for granted.

It is the arrogance of politicians, their slipperiness and lack of principle, their endless deal making and compromises that annoys people the most. And when the politicians say to the people: ‘but we’re doing all this for you’, that just makes it worse.

  21. Those who boycotted did that on principle due to the heavy allowances. I guess they should have participated and refused to get the allowances so that they pressurize those that went due to allowances to reject those allowances as it is a drain on the meager financial resources (tax payer’s money.

  22. FACT. Milupi has got more grey matter than sata.so what he is saying is true.sata ordered his fellow half brains to boycott the NCC same did this church which perpetrated genocide in rwanda and unfortunately belong to it.yes the catholic church.so if these scumbags attended NCC and you add on UPND and other interest groups they would have outnumbered MMD.so now MMD are in majority hence they do as they wish.degree for president which sata hasnt got and no 50%+1. So absentees dont cry wolf.it’s your own making

  23. I like Milupi’s contributions to national development and indeed, its a shame that others boycotted NCC. Well, the constitution its self will not make sense if the same constitution is not domesticated at the point of pain i.e. community. We need a constitution which will be pipo drive and this can only come about if our local authourities perform to pipo’s expectation. Unlike talking too much, Milupi is at the same time a councillor for Mongu Municipal Council and it at this level that he was supposed to provide leadership so that the council operate in a more transparent, accountable and good governance manner. He talks does not reflect his providing leadership to operations of his council. Its said that you have to remove dirty from your eye before you do so to others. His failed us!

  24. # 28, isee you are not well informed, do not expose your ignorance on things you do not know. The issue of Mongu council is out of topic, comment on things you know well.
