Share

President Rupiah Banda says Zambia’s economic revival plan is on course contrary to negative reports being circulated within and outside the country.

Mr. Banda says he is aware of some people who have been spreading false statements that the country’s economy was headed for doom.

The President says the country’s economic performance is impressive as evident in the many programmes that his administration has put in place which were now bearing fruits.

He highlighted the different achievements with respect to the economy adding that his government had made a lot of progress in stirring economic development countrywide.

The President said in his address last night at a gathering of Zambians living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mr. Banda called on all Zambians to remain united and work towards developing the country.

He said all those who were spreading false statements and wishing his government failure were bent on dividing and destroying the country.

Mr. Banda urged all peace loving Zambians to condemn such people.

The President said his government will continue to develop the country on the foundation left behind by the late President Levy Mwanawasa.

And speaking earlier, Chairman of the Zambians living in Ethiopia Cosmas Mumba commended President Rupiah Banda for the quality leadership he has exhibited so far.

Mr. Mumba said President Banda’s good leadership skills were evident in the manner the country’s governance record has improved in the past one year.

He also commended the President for setting up a desk at State House charged with the responsibility of dealing with issues of the Zambians living in the diaspora.

He said Zambians living in the diaspora will now take advantage of the desk to invest back home.

The President is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the 14 th Ordinary Session of the African Union which opened this morning.

The three day summit is going to witness the change of guard between outgoing chairperson Colonel Muhammar Gaddafi of Libya and Malawian president Dr Bingu Wamutharika .

Apart from political issues related mostly to the resolution of conflicts on the continent, the heads of state and government are expected to unpack the theme of the summit which has been widely viewed as one of the areas that holds a lot of potential for development on the continent.

The summit is also expected to discuss the report of the commission on unconstitutional changes of governments before considering adopting various reports, among them, the peace and security situation in Africa.

In addition, the summit will discuss the report of the ministerial meeting on the Rome statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The summit will also launch the AU flag and present awards to two African scientists who won the continental science prizes before climaxing into the 14 th ordinary session of the heads of state and government summit.

  1. Boza yako Kamwendo Munjila, the economy is if anything contracting under the dead weight of your political inertia.

  2. Iwe RB. It is the right of every Zambian to question the direction of the economy. The economy is not going anywhere. It may be going places for you and your children and your Eastern Province clan. Here in Western Province all we are asking for is a tarmac road between Mongu and Sesheke. Another one btwn Kaoma and Lukulu plus the Kalabo-Mongu road. The failure of all past and present govts to build roads in Western Province is one of the reasons we agitate for Barotse independence. Honestly we dont feel part of your country!

  3. Iwe sioma falls poho, you dont think straight. If you dont feel part of Zambia then you should stop commenting on what happens in Zambia and concentrate on that Barotse country which will never happen. The Mongu Kalabo road is one complexproject that requires alot of resources and the best engineers to ancomplish it.Doing that road in a hurry will only take us back to the other failed works that where done on that road. Get the best contractors like the ones who made the road across the chesapeake river or those who did the Euro tunnel and be prepared to spend without politics involved.

  4. Pro Clive Chirwa joins the UPND-PF Pact under the umbralla of UPND, this comes after his resignation from MMD yestarday.

  5. Mr. President, it is unfair to call everyone that does not support your policies an enemy of development. Most of us are peace loving Zambians but we expect to see the improvement you are talking about – visible changes and not just words or figures.
If false benefits from foreign investors and donor spoils are what you rely on to measure economic development, that cannot sustain Zambia’s economy forever.

  6. We know RB is an old guard politician from the ‘if you’re not with us you’re against us’ camp. Also remember these pronouncements he makes are made with the media in mind knowing full well they are for public consumption. How come there are no independent news sources reporting RB and we usually get the ‘official’ line from the official mouthpiece that is ZANIS?
The African Union and its predecessor the OAU have been, in the main, talking shops for African leaders. That is a fact. The leaders and their entourages swan around with their conspicuous consumption tendencies, play politics,go back to their countries and the circus starts again. This has been happening for years!
In the meantime, the suffering goes on and the politicking continues.Until when?

  7. I think we must acknowledge the economy is doing in the right direction ie growth, maybe the pace is not very good. I think it is a good virtue to give credit for the efforts. Unlike in Kafupis time when the economy was always in negative growth, we now have atleast 5% growth every year. Viva RB, viva Levy

  8. The summit will also launch the AU flag …
Zambia we will have two flags this one **==, and a new one for Africa.Did you people vote for this? We are truly a divided people, who agree or disagree along party.Instead of meaningful debate about the future of our nation, we receive only distractions .We seek leaders, but only receive figureheads (who are pushing for this). We will cease being Zambians.Welcome AU.Next stop New Word Order.
    Hard times ahead.

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus

  9. This is total madness. This man goes to Addis Ababa (AU) that’s were he goes to discuss people who are talking about the state of the Zambian economy. Is AU the right forum for your political mischief? Sure this man has lost it.

“He said all those who were spreading false statements and wishing his government failure were bent on dividing and destroying the country”.

What does AU have to do with how he is running the failed economy? Wrong forum ba Banda.

  10. 1984 I was waiting for your comment on the AU flag. Two days ago I left a comment on Summit and the flag, I hope you Zambians are watching and by no means accept that flag but remember the black, red, green, gold/copper and the eagle under our God in heaven.

  11. *-:) Nine Chale great take, it appears we have got the attention of GRZ, I am loving that. If only our leaders would accept our criticism. We are telling RB to not employ unip or mmd rationale for development, embrace our ideas and protect Zambia from the outside investors; with or without good intentions weak laws and business rules hurt Zambia in totality. Our voices have been heard :d/

  12. 1984 it is good you are actually writing full statements. This is indeed one of your very best, let us remind all Zambians that our elected leaders today don’t only have to feed the hungry but protect the nation from a revelational evil of one Africa under I presume a strange flag. Let Africans unite on the basis of trade and economic and ou love for Jesus and moral uprightness that the west wants to destroy more than anyone thing. Bloggers under God we are one and should seek God for our nation as such. Remember John 3 vs 16.

  13. :-\” The only greatness coming out of this summit is that Ghadaffi is no longer the chair of the AU. Nothing is better than an African leader taking over that only sees that position as a money making machine an nothing beyond that.

  14. Mwanawakwitu we are called to be the salt of the earth.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men(Matt 5 v 13).

May God’s blessing shine on you.

  15. The Presido is too old what economy is he talking about Buying Bread at K5,000.00 upwards If its Fuel its even worse. Presido Think Twice its us suffering and not you.

  16. Zambia is headed in the right direction. From 1975 to 2003, the height grow Z ever recorded was 2 percent. 2005 to date positive growth has been recorded. But we must not be satisfied with this positive development. More needs to be done. Without economic growth there can be no development. Developmet simply is the achievement of economic growth ( money accrued in a given year). No GDP no development. 6.3 GDF is good but not enough to trickle down to the poor.

  19. On course to what? Blar blar blar blar blar blar blar is all this man is saying. Marring a child, what sense can you make us.In one complete year let him tell us and explain Five things his Zoo Govt has done.Talk to us on an adult level and tell us, What your govt has done; How much is involved; What are the targets and what sector;who are beneficiaries and what are the gains and losses; What is the time plan and make comparison. (Did you listern to Obama’s State of the Union Address that makes sense)
All that you have achieved is dubiously selling of companies and interfering with Judiciaries and of course letting crooks loose so that they campaign for you. What a joke!!!!!!!!!

  20. TTo all Zambians: My name is Dr. Rupiah Bwez Banda. I have a cure for people living with HIV and AIDS. I’m able to completely eliminate HIV virus. The procedure is advanced but simple and it is based on this fact; “Scientists and medical authorities agree that HIV does not survive well outside the body “. My procedure is, we first take out all of your blood and keep it out for at the list 5 to 6 days. In that time we will completely desiccate your blood (dry it up like powdered milk) to make sure the HIV virus is completely eliminated. Then you will you won’t have any virus in your blood.????????????????????F

  21. Haaaaaay, what other things do you what to start asking me if you wouldn’t ask this others Lupiah Banda about Zambia’s economic revival plan being on course. That compared to my claim, mine is based on facts.
    \
$$$$$$$$$ For legal purposes. Please note. This procure does not mean you will live to see your HIV free blood.

  22. people are merely stating facts, giving demonstrative arguements, and you call that spreading false statements? Atase! cheap politics

  23. #26, we have set for ourselves to become a prosperous middle income country by the year 2030. That, I believe is the course that the President is talking about. Though a good indicator, GDP is not a measure of welfare. We have to look at other macroeconomic indicators as well to see where we are headed. According to CSO, poverty levels reduced to about 60% in 2006 from about 70% in 1996 That, in itself is not impressive. It means we are only knocking down one percentage point per annum, we should be doing more. And what about GNI, and per capita savings? I haven’t seen those numbers published!
