LT Update-Proliferation of bad language in the comments section

Share

Okay lets try and see if we can fix this. Looks like we suddenly have an influx of micro bloggers determined to violate our comments policy at will. They have been dumping comments on the site that are inappropriate. These bloggers have even gone to the extent of spelling some local insults with English words to just beat our filters.

In our last update we brought up this issue and we repeat it here for those that missed it. We said this:

We have this word we never saw in primary school-ad hominem, in our comments policy. It can have a myriad of meanings to a lot of people, but this is what it means to us:-attacking an opponent’s character rather than answering his or her argument. Can we please not do this on the site. Can we also apply this to our leaders? We believe people comment because they want to be heard and influence decisions and surely if you want somebody to hear you and later on take your advise, you better be nice to them. If you want honey, don’t disturb the bees. Lets make this forum a place where we educate each other and deliver our opinions to our leaders in a civilised manner

It looks like those people peddling in inappropriate language have chosen to ignore the civil way we are trying to address this issue. Please note this is one of the most reliable Zambian websites with news content that a lot of people frequent, including our leaders and the comments posted by some micro bloggers are unacceptable. We realise some of you have just discovered freedom of expression and out of excitement, you just don’t know what to do with it. Could this be a result of the combination of Freedom of Expression and Lack of Vocabulary? Surely, there is a civil way to exercise your new found freedom despite having a limited vocabulary.

Right, we are currently working on some technical solutions to fix this problem and it will take us a few months to get it right. In the interim we are going to be very, very heavy handed with offenders of our comments policy. First time offenders will be put on moderation for a week and their comments will take hours or even days for us to approve. Second time offenders will be completely banned from accessing the site. When you visit the site, all you will see is a message in red-YOU HAVE BEEN BANNED.. We have the technology to do this and we have banned a few people in the past. It’s not pretty when you are banned.

Lastly, we welcome comments that encourage dialogue or debate but not insults, particularly targeted at our leaders in both Government and those in Opposition. Insulting Mr Michael Sata does NOT add any value to the development of Zambia. Same goes for attacking Ms Dora Siliya’s personal character. There is only one Zambia with the current leaders at the wheel and it is everybody’s responsibility to influence them to do good, through constructive suggestions and not attacking their personal characters. And remember that growing beyond ourselves and our views requires learning from others. Let uphold this spirit on this site.

  1. I hope LT is not moving the direction of restricting our freedom of speech. I think it will be difficult to come up with a standard that will differentiate an insult , vulgar language or language meant to drive home a point. This is the only forum we have that we can criticize politicians and get away with. Its like our little parliament. Let us be free to express ourselves

  2. Yes. Lusaka Times is one of the biggest news websites in Zambia. They have a reputation to uphold and have great responsibility on their shoulders. Allowing all sorts of attacks, insults, profanity and derogatory statements on the site is retrogressive to the blog and the nation as a whole.

I commend LT for trying to curb this issue.

  3. well said LT it was getting out of hand, hope we wont lose a lot of bloggers considering insults is the best way they express themselves

  4. Yes though i disaprove the use of insult, i still think those penalties are not on the realisic side of this world.Language is a very complicated thing ,hence i foresee a situation where a persons innocent statement is misinterpreted to be a insult.Am saying this coz i have seen situations where pipo have been offended from innocent statements which may just as well be a compliment so LT read between the line before you consider doing that.

  5. Come on LT. Is this the start of self-regulation?
What do you think are the appropriate terms for some of the so-called leaders?

  6. So what do we do with Senior Capitalist and MMD bootlicker now??? Oh no ba LT…..Can you also ban shushushu’s also????

  7. why do Zambians like restricting themselves. we always want to make our lives difficult. This is a good forum to express ourselves yet we want to limit what we can say. Like # 1 said, this is like a small parlament, we can express our selves, vent our anger, and get away with. we cant do this in the real world. we will be arrested. Sometimes it is refreshing, and reduces tensions in our lives just to read how funny Zambians can be on the blog. So please BA LT dont behave like Govt controlled media.

  8. VICE-President and justice minister George Kunda has recommended to Cabinet to pay about K5 billion to Lusaka-based parliamentarians, most of whom are ministers, attending the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) as facilitation allowance. Backdated to December 19, 2007 when the NCC started its sittings.
Vice-President Kunda will be paid K77.3 million, finance minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane K70.8 million while NCC chairperson Chifumu Banda K88.4 million. Ministers Lieutenant General Gen Ronnie Shikapwasha (information), Peter Daka (agriculture), Sarah Sayifwanda (gender), Kenneth Chipungu (sports), deputy ministers Angela Cifire (information), Moses Muteteka (local government), Todd Chilembo (justice), Friday Malwa (community development), Mwangala Mubita (tourism) & Mubika Mubika

  9. LT can you carry out a referendum on this. restricting or banning some bloggers may actually make this blog less popular. just carry out a poll and go with what the majority will say.

  10. :)>- LT on Dora even I as a Christian shall tell you, it is hard to comment without drawing her personality into it, the makeup, dubious appointments. Where is her husband you see our handicap we face when it comes to commenting on her. Please censor insults but let us unload truths.

  11. what is an insult? how do you define an insult. What constitutes an insult? if a local language word is spelt in English then it does not have the same meaning. If i use a Vulgar word in Xhosa will that be ok with LT? even though they no one will understand?

  12. iwe mpangula # 10, this is a wrong forum, we are talking about insults here not allowances. May be LT should ban chaps who divert from the topic at hand

  13. Like one said the shushu should be allowed only three contributions an article. Goverment propaganda too is an insult to hurting Zambians so block that too LT. What about someone like myself that shall criticise the opposition and the ruling government equally. On the insults yes some people take it way to the extreme.

  14. Expressing your feelings or the so called freedom of speech does not entail insults. insults are no more than vulgar language directed at the persona of an individual and i recommend to LT to educate the masses and also give such timely warning to would be offenders so that should such be banned, they have to say publicly to the rest of bloggers at all commentary postings that they are sorry and must not repeat the same crime

  15. balimisoka guys? if you put a feature like the Post, mukalalabako ukucita update, LOL.

  16. # 17 this is not your house to treat people like your children. and stop being holier than thou , you are not perfect

  17. Well done LT. I actually stopped commenting on your stories…..there is something wrong with the age group and state of mind of some of your bloggers…Their comments are so shallow and childish. And please do your part…dont show us pornography pictures ( from night clubs) on this site. Do your part LT and keep your site clean before you root out offensive bloggers.

  18. Ba LT if you want honey expect bees to sting you. Your expression is wrong and out of this context. To get honey you have to disturb the bees. How ever I agree with you on insults.People who resort to insults are short on points.

  19. It doesnt take a lot of technology to moderate comments from bloggers, its just a matter of delaying a comment for less than 5 minutes while a boundless staff goes through a comment which takes less than a minute to spot any vulgarity in the post. You cannot BAN anyone for the simple fact that LT does not have the technology to verify all email addresses provided by users, thats why some people are able to blog using under different ID’s,more over LT cant even control SPAM from people who cut a whole story from a different forum and paste it here, thereby flooding the whole story.whatever the case it all makes for provocative and enjoyable reading.so blog on

  20. LT dont be so full of your selves, where on earth do you expect a primary school learner to know about ad hominem. Your expressions like the previous guy said are all wrong. if someone from LT just googled ad hominem now they want to look smart they better check themselves

  21. Progressive citizens and MMD value constructive criticism as democratic and will never inhibit logical debates driven on mutual respect and responsibility because such foster national value and knowledge sharing. But progressive citizens in MMD and media platforms such as LT take strong exception to a culture of insults that only deny the country the opportunity of intelligent debates. A culture of insults has proved an affront to our national culture, identity and spirit of mutual respect. It is advisable that those who cannot handle intelligent and insightful discourse must consider starting their own blogs where insults would better thrive. A news portal that opens up to insults, lose on high skilled intelligent debates for mediocrity a development I believe LT cannot afford.

  22. It appears like LT is now sympathising with Dorah. Is she your board member now?.Please note that some people do not listen to good and polite advice. Such people like Dorah sit up when insulted. Let freedom of expression continue. People are fed up of and frustrated by this corrupt leadership. No one should hinder nobody because self expression is a free will and no one should interfere. Long live bloggers and post more criticisms against those crude looking, dirty minded and morally dead people.

  23. LT is only popular because we as the so called ‘micro bloggers’ frequent it. Much as i don’t support low lives that post insults, the fact is LT needs us as much as we need them. Delete the inappropriate words only, bear in mind we are not Nigeria with 150million people.
    All the best.

  24. Democracy comes with responsibility.LT cannot cannot allow itself to be turned into a hub of deviants openly failing to engage in intelligent discourse. We know that deviants come to dent the outstanding image of this news portal whose services and initiatives are unparalled to any.No doubt LT has proven to be our country’s selfless promoter of e-democracy and a repository of real time news to every citizen irrespective of location. It is therefore a responsibility of LT Honchos to preserve the brand name against acts of aberration deviants are bring here.

    BRAVO LT!

  25. Democracy comes with responsibility.LT cannot cannot allow itself to be turned into a hub of deviants openly failing to engage in intelligent discourse. BRAVO LT!

  26. LT are you MMD ? I always suspect that for your news is always biased towards MMD. Criticism is ok and never attempt to ban people speakng against these thieves in RB govnt. Nyama Soya and his minions are stealing in day light while the poor Zambians are dying each second. LT know that peple are so angry at RB and his Madam Dora for their corruption. We will continue pointing out their evils till they reform. LONG LIVE BLOGGERS.

  27. I think this is the right move in the right direction, hope Ba LT you are not being twisted to come up with such. If this is done in good faith then it is ok. People like observer will stop making contributions because of the vocabullary n MMD bootlicker.

  28. Atase, i knew it. This is typical. Dont get big headed fellas. We made LT what it is. The news you have here is censored news pulled from government media with little original content so theres nothing special about you except the freedom of expression given to “bloggers”. Muzzle us and you are history. Foolish chaps.:p

  29. I don’t post insults but if i were to be banned i wouldn’t spend not even one sleepless night. Once upon at time there’s was a blog called ‘Zambia online’ they started stifling bloggers in the name of moderating we all know what happened. We love you LT and wouldn’t like to see you go down like ZOL, as i said we are only 10million of which very few have access to internet or interested in blogging.

  30. Ghostrider, why should Senior “Capitalist”, MMD Bootlicker and I be banned? Do we insult? Do you understand the point LT is making? The issue here is banning those who insult not banning those who support or don’t support the current government. Maybe you are one of those that cannot make a point without insulting and so might find this stance by LT impossible.

  31. LT you are very right about this issue. Let those who have nothing to say keep quiet. Leave the site to people who have ideas to share. If I can divert a bit I was very dispointed with the PF president yesterday when he was featured on Radio Pheonix. The man could not answer any question and when a lady from MMD sectreatirate called to press him on a few issues from his past he just went balistic!! Interrupting her all the way untill she could not even express herself. It was really shamefull to listen to a man bahave that way when he wants to be president one day. What was very dispointing is the lack of moderation from the host Mr. Kenneth Maduma. he just let the man go on saying empty statements. this should not happen to LT our beloved site!!

  32. Remember the Dinosaur Zambia Online? They were bigger than you are right now. Where are they? Gone. Please dont get excited. We know you are under pressure. Perhaps a disclaimer could help you.

  33. It won’t be very fun if we left it for one sad grumpy Senior citizen to post comments here all by himself. Eventually he will also jumps off the ship and follow us wherever we’ll blogging freely. Shelf those rules and tell whoever is threatening you to go to hell.

  34. LT is right. One does not need to use insults or unpalatable language to express an opinion. At times, it’s limited or lack of vocabulary, as LT would put it, that cause some bloggers to go vulgar.

My appeal to LT, however, is not to rush in banning offending bloggers. I believe you have our email addresses. You can email offenders to tone down their language or zip on insults. I thought that’s one of the reason you requests for emails.

  35. LT some times wake up on the left like to day. Ni ka hang over ba LT muli nako. Any way explicit insults are not good. But saying nakwi was threatend gang r.a.p.e (rape) is it an insult coz you alaways delete the word r.a.p.e. LT sometimes you invite insults coz you delete words which are not insults. So wake up and do your job. Infact its you who need us most not us. You make money through advertisements.

  36. This is very simple and straight forward issue the LT memo has delivered. It is advisable that those who cannot engage in intelligent and insightful discourse must consider starting their own blogs where insults would better thrive and serve them. A news portal that opens up to insults, lose on high skilled intelligent debates for mediocrity a development I believe LT cannot afford.Credibility earned through high standards enforced will attract valuable traffic come with good hits of which deviant don’t.

  37. Ba LT, you have surprised me really…BUT my suspicion has come to reality..I have always suspected you are MMD.bear in mind that we are 13milion + pipo in this country and we cant all be MMD.(God forbid)..LT you cant refuse this:- ”we know you have bent down to pressure from above”. .is telling the truth an insult? is observing and commenting on what is happening around us where plunderers have become spokesmen, appointments are tribal and suspicious an insult?..so YOU only want bloggers who will sing praises for rubbish, ATA..!! you can get lost LT then, BAN US, we will find alternatives, we were there before you and we shall be there even after you go….ama rubbish fye..we will never succumb..!!!

  38. LT as much as I destest some of the vulgarity, you are attemping to thwart freedom of opinion. You certainly want us to say nice things about your GRZ/MMD to whom your articles are clearly biased on any issue.. Two things are apparent . its either (1) You are a Quasi Govt media piece that was set up to sway us and counter what we know to be happening from true private media institutions giving MMD a hard time or (2) LT is a private institution but dependent on ZANIS/GRZ sponsored funding on the basis that you return positive views or risk loss of funding or even crack down on blogging because your sponsored are not happy thatmost of us have ZERO (0) confidence in them. its also to know that they actually read this. Am sure Dora does & is upset. Good. good to know they hear us.

  39. Way to go Lusaka Times! I have been a victim of insults by one blogger, where I seem to have taken a divergent view. An uphill battle though, considering the manner in which the english language can be corrupted in terms of spellings and the use of euphemisms if you like.

  40. I am all for Freedom of expression, truth be told a few individuals will or may abuse this but the decent majority will not. I would be happy to see some restriction, however constructive criticism must be encouraged…

  41. LT, i hope you mean what you are saying, not targeting some and leave out some…i have not used sting language since i was warn but i stil see alot of blogger getting away it while am still subjected to moderation…am not complaining, am just stating my case!:)>-

  42. # 43, you just hate the man and afraid of change….It’s this type of thinking that has led to LT fallling prey to pressure and feels they can silence our rights…Wake up to reality..!!.. LT you need us more than we need you..BAN US, but DON’T BAN OUR VOTES..seems LT your days are numbered too..

  43. LT,

You went at length to argue that “if you want honey, do not disturb the bees” meaning to get your point accross, you need to be nice. You have just done the opposite of what you are trying to preach. I find your letter insulting. What is micro blogger? Are you macro bloggers yourselves or what? Bloggers are just bloggers bane! If you yourselves are not lacking in vocabulary, you ought to have found many acceptable words to make the point. Clearly you have few words in which to express yourselves. Do not forget you are not a monopoly. Your advertising really depends on your popularity. I sense a level of childishness in LT. Indeed, the pot is calling the kettle black! Shame.

  44. yeah lt has a point but lt needs to understand that there is a difference between political commenting in the western world and in the african setup. in our african setup we may raise our voice or say that some one is st*pid, this does not mean that we actually think he is like that. it is our own way of expressing ourselves. bane we should not try and adopt western “manners” at the expense of our full freedom of speech. isnt it enough that we were colonized and were not able to freely express ourselves?? african freedom of speech is a young development which should at its beginning be less restricted. it is only normal for a person who has not been giving food for a long time , to eat it quickly and disgustingly. so if there are a few insults goin on here and there pliz understand

  45. i find LTs note really patronizing. wat do you mean we are excited with newly found freedom of speech?? you are just one website which even i here can start up. it is not hard to start a news website. i think lt should have adressed us maturely. surely three quarters of bloggers here are 18 and above. i know for sure many zambians under age of 17 are uninterested in current affairs and c current affairs as a school chore in social studies of grade 5-7. so pliz LT i think you should rewrite this piece.

  46. I support you LT. Insults makes me not to be a regular. Sometimes I do not even read the comments but the story. Well done and keep it up. Yellow card then Red!

  47. It’s said charity beings at home so as good manners. Also bad association spoils useful habits.LT is just
notifying bogglers to desist from insults or use it’s site as a platform for unpalatable laungage. While we all abhor vulgar or insults, our leaders should still be made accountable for there wrong actions esp when
it’s known they are misusing tax pays money. Why should be a leader be allowed to fly in and out of the country to go for meetings which have no bearing in improving the lives of the people?Mazopa residents were thrown to the tents like chickens heavy rains are soaking them.feeder roads in our streets are deporable ever since kaunda left office and yet we paying high taxes like income tax,Road tax, carborn tax, plus fuel levy. While the mines windfall tax was waved.Youth un…

  48. continued…Youth unemployment levels in this country are ever increasing due to no political will on job creation, school leavers/drop outs are left in the cold.while constitution office holders salaries were increased,NCC is also paying colosal sums of sitting allowances and some of them are yet to be paid there Gratuity.this is pa Zed indeed.

  49. Way to go ba LT
Its not that we love insulting, we just react to the way some leaders behave that is why we insult so that we can relieve ourselves. You have to understand our position and feelings. This website means a lot to us as it is the only connection that makes us feel like we are not missing out on what is going on in our country. What you are about to do is very unfair,I dont insults most of the times but at times I do….I agree with # 1 and 9

  50. Okay! that makes sense. Perhaps there will be some sanity on this blog, but let us not take away the genuine emotions being expressed here.
Insults can never be welcomed in every ordered community, again, people are not the same. I bet there will be alot of banning going on around here especially that only a few bloggers can live up to LT ‘s expectations and seeing that ruling whether one’s comment contains abusive language or not may be dubious going by the content of the story published. All the same Abusive Language is generally unacceptable. Here we go…..Iam checking on the bloggers’ names so I can see which ones will start missing. Acceptable concerns=d>

  51. I couldn’t agree more with the LT team. I think we need to mind our language. But we have to start with LT themselves. You need to scale up your proofreaders. And sometimes the website has colloquial language. I think as LT, you need to write your articles better. Sometimes the language puts me off. Even comments on pictures should be more mature. They tend to be a little childish to say the least. There is a big difference between having a sense of humour and the lack of professionalism. It is simply not the same thing!

  52. I Hope we wont be driven away like the way we have runaway from buying or even reading Times and Daily Mail papers

  53. Oh and another thing about LT is that you seem to be politically biased! I hope that can change in future. Report things as they are… that is your job!

  54. Good Morning

I’m glad LT has put this message across again loud and clear. It’s about time we learnt how to debate issues without insulting or attacking each other. It is really sad to observe that the more important the topic at hand, the more vulgar some bloggers become. LT is right – you cannot expect to get honey if you provoke the bees! How do you expect the president to take criticism seriously when he is flooded with insults? Surely there must be a civilised manner of publicly expressing one’s negative feelings.

  55. LT stop being draconian.Insults or whatever you call them are another way of people expressing themselves, because of your gaging you will only end up with Patriot, MMD Bootlicker,Veteran as the only bloggers.By the way stop insulting contributers by calling us “micro bloggers”, we also feel insulted with the word “micro.” Confucias said, “EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT YOU ARE SAYING,I’LL STILL LET YOU SAY IT.” Your cherished MMD bloggers insult others by calling them ” PF Kaponyas and Under-educated” these are insults too! LT be wise others you will lose 75% of bloggers.

  56. Thank you LT, pipo have been abusing this platform for too long, thats why i was not commenting at all!
Hope there will be a change now. Peace loving zambia!

  57. I left LT as one of the first blogers because of insults.Good move LT even though the insulters will still find means to throw out their garbage from different sites. But good move for those who’re restricted to one ISP

  58. I have been banned three times in 6 months.
L.T has its own conflicting issues already.

How it wants to stop insults but will probably still allow spammed posts flooding wrong topics like how Veteran/Senile Citizen/Observer/Kuku/Mwata do everyday.

Zambia Online / Mr President is not GONE!
Just ask the named above who visit daily.
ZOL does not have annoying moderation and you can discuss all topics in Zambia and not just follow state propaganda news sites.

  59. # 69 Nine Chale. those are my sentiments too. You have said it all! As much as one want to add some constructive comments, or argue a point – it seems pointless. Hence, you get put off commenting or blogging for the same reason. LT, I sincerely hope this works. We just might get more intelligent input from serious bloggers for a change!

  60. Sweet, warm, smiling friendly peace loving Zambians. OOOoooh, please don’t make me cry out the national anthem…**== Love, Love, Love, Peace, Peace, hunger, Joy, Joy, Joy mother Zambia I love you!

  61. #42 Shushushu-thats the problem with giving yourself such silly names. I didnt even know there was a blogger shushushu coz i was referring to S. Citizen and Bootlicker as shu x 3 (hope you get it this time spelling the whole word makes me sick). You have completely misunderstood my statement and that’s because you are too shallow minded. I suggest you go and sleep.

  62. Those that are defending insults as “Freedom of Expression” have the totally wrong interpretation of what Freedeom of Expression really is. Like every human right, Freedom of Expression too is defined and contained in it’s rightful perimeters. Yes you have the right to express yourself but that right ends the momment you begin to use it to violate other peoples’ rights.

As LT has observed, I think some people just need to learn how to deal with their recently discovered freedom of expression. The technology of the internet allows us the privilledge to say ANYTHING in haste and anonymity and this is what makes it easier to be rude here than outside. I have also posted rubbish out of sheer excitement but thank God I have learnt to resist the temptation.

  63. Insults just shows how shallow one is in thinking. They lack substance.Have no values.Short tempered.Full of Prejudice.Self-Centered.Unreasonable.

  64. what is the difference between the insults and the pictures that show women almost naked???LT think about it. There is a thin line between what is right and not. When we look at it from both angles LT also needs to work on the pictures being shown to us. I mean pictures in night clubs with boobs displayed….. can you also edit things like that

  65. LT please give us examples of the bad language or insults. Some of us this is our normal language. You are now behaving like GRZ. To them all words are insults…*****:)):((

  66. # 77 we know that you won something but that dont make you a spokes man. LT has got this whole thing twisted. Just like # 80 has said if it is morality they want then they should stop publishing immoral pictures. This is just a blog man, i dont think any politicians even take this seriously. we are here to have fun, vent our anger , say what s up,. lets not be too serious, life is short. we can say as many serious things as we want, NOBODY IS EVER gonna listen. we might as well just chill, call each other names, release stress, if you know what i mean

  67. Anyone with any internet savvy can circumnavigate a ban by simply hiding or switching their IP address. Lsktimes leave the censorship to printed press because on the internet you cannot censor people. If people resort to insults that does nothing but shine the light on themselves . If anyone is offended by insults directed towards them I suggest they grow up and grow some thick skin and stop being emotional over people that don’t know.

  68. In the end, LT will remain with onlt me, MMD chief Bootlicker, Capitalist, Citizen and the webmaster to blog amongst ourselves. Keep insulting and you will see what happens to you next time. SCUMBAGs you are fore warned.

  69. Needless to say that most LT stories come from Times of Zambia, Daily mail and Zanis. Bloggers you are hereby advised not to comment on certain stories no matter how compelled you feel. Thats what I do. I support the sentiments of some bloggers here who feel stories on this blog incite negative comments. I could ,however, not agree more with posting # 69. Self-moderation is the way to go. Bravo man!

  70. dont lie to people tht u have the tech to ban them, man am in the it unless this chap uses the same dame ip address or email yes u will bt i have more than 10 mail and more than 30 cafe’s arnd twn how are u going to do tht.is it jst cz u in the usa.no way man.

  71. :d:d true dat. Zambians are skilled at dissing and foul language and it seems the is generally a chronic verbal diarrhea doing the rounds. Freedom of speech does not give anyone the right to abuse another.

  72. Atase!!! you make it sound like we depend on LT for the news about zed! let people vent there steam! its called freedom of expression in English! Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. this is our contribution to end the mediocrity of our retarded political leaders in Zambia in particular and Africa in general. this village mentality has to end if YOU people want to move forward. Your can spare bloggers the draconian censureship your politicians are forcing you to impose. I for one do not give a fly’s f.u.ck about LT! i have 100s of sites i vent my steam on!!! BLOCK ME FOR ALL YOUR HALF BAKED SITE IS WORTH!!:d

  73. LT, you have our email addresses and now you want to restrict freedom of speech that comes with the anonymity of the internet – this is censorship. Cut off the users of what you consider to be bad language and you will see a migration from your website. Havent you noticed that The Post is already working into your segment?

  74. LT is right, they have the right of admission.

Insults have sent many sensible and educated people away from LT’s blogs. This place is full of intellectectually challenged bloogers. It’s like a meeting place for Kaponyas – like bus station or market place. It is so shameful.

Once there was a story about some Zambian muscians, a couple regarding issue of wife beating. The same story was on bbc website and being blogged upon there too. The quality of bloggers LT was so inferior to those on LT, where it was only full of insults. On bbc, we had bloggers from all over the world, contributing wonderfully.

There a lot of educated Zambians, but you cant see them on LT. This place is hijacked by Kaponyas.

  75. #98 contd

Meant to say intellectually challenged bloggers

Also, the quality of bloggers on LT was so inferior to those on bbc.

All I am saying is that fellow, Zambians, we know we can do better than behave in mediocre ways. We are brighter, more thoughtful, more analytical than this rubbish we exhibit on LT. We are doing ourselves a disservice, behaving like fools when we are not.

I hope there will be another Zambian blog where the sensible Zambians discuss issues in a mature way. Especially for us in teh diaspora.

  76. Lusaka Times. Are you as popular as you really think? The only reason people visit this site is that they are able to insult. you claim that this is one of the most reliable websites on news. It is not true. Like other have said, there is never anything unique on your site. What ever is here has been published elsewhere onn the internet 3 or 4 hours earlier. people come here just to insult. In fact the people who read this site are just about 200 but just use different names to post insults. The evidence is on this story itself. Look on the top of this story. it shows that this story has been viewed 219 times. Yet it has been here for the past 13 hours. So where is your popularity.
You see to be panicking. we know what has happened. They have finally found out who you are

  77. not that iam incinuating anything..but its easy to put another ip address(millions) that can bypass any proxy and you can never be banned….

  78. Ban me also from this terrible website which offers nothing new. It useless. In fact there is no news here. just copy and paste. Nosense

  79. LT, careful… You are our source of information and you draw us to talk. There is usually a very thin line between an insult and naming a thing’ especially when it comes to leaders and other public figures.
    Remember:
‘Umutwe ukulu taupuswa nkonya’ and at the same time ‘Amalumbo yakulu, yatuke Mfumu’

Censoring debates is a tricky thing especially on a site like yours. Whatever you do, encouraged our freedom of speech.

  80. Nine Chale
You used to be very objective in your contributions but i had a feeling after you got the $50 talk time that you might get jinxed and i was right. It’s a myth, how many bloggers post insults here? It’s only one low life called AKAPONDO that post inappropriate words.

  81. Insults or sting words are bad, but if well used, i think its ok, remember if one is angry or upset about whats going down in zambia, i mean what do you do?..lash out if you can! or cry where no one can hear you or see you!,,the choice is yours

  82. Though insults are not good and are not welcomed here anymore, our leaders should also change for the better E.g look at Goerge kunda how he has handled things in his own capacity as Veep.
    Anyway we need intellegent dialogue.
