The Victoria Falls has recorded the lowest water levels as of this month compared to previous years.
Victoria Falls World Heritage Site Manager John Zulu has attributed the early reduction of water to reduced amounts of rain fall during the last rainy season.
Mr. Zulu said the rocks at the falls usually become exposed in October and November when the water levels reduce, but this year the rocks are already showing.
He however said the Victoria Falls remains admirable throughout the year.
Mr. Zulu said the geological formation of the heritage site is captivating and that the low water levels also allow for activities such as white water rafting and walking on the lip of the falls.
And Mr. Zulu has noted that the number of people visiting the Victoria Falls slightly increased from January to June this year as compared to the same period last year.
He said about 80000 local and international tourists visited the Falls this year in the first six months while the same period last year recorded 75000 visitors.

Zambian govt keeps publishing these numbers that X thousand people visited…its pointless if tourists are visiting but not spending their money, most tourists including celebrities fly in from RSA where they have paid everything via an agency in RSA and only come for a few hours…its like a shopping Mall that prides itself of high footfall yet its mostly window shoppers

In the early 70’s, 80’s and 90’s Eagle Travel Office in London used to sell those packages for London – Lusaka non-stop through Heathrow for both British Airways (British Caledonian from Gatwick before it was sold to BA) and Zambia Airways.
The connection to Livingstone from Lusaka was discounted for guests at InterContinental Hotels both in Lusaka and Livingstone.
By bundling it with airfare, the Tourist Capital benefited from Eagle Travel packages. Back then you could fly to London on return flight for £1,000 hotel & Vic Falls package included.

If there is not enough water flowing over the Falls it means that there was not enough water that could fill the Kariba Dam and yet you still have some people blaming the current power shortage on the 2x180MW Chinese turbines and generators terming them as water guzzlers.
And these govt due to greed wants to invest $4 billion in another hydroelectric dam further down stream!

Zambian politicians and most Zambians don’t see beyond their noses. sure I understand the need to feed one’s family now, but there’s need to plan 20, 30 years in the future.
the Zambian landscape has changed a lot, I visit Zambia every year or a couple of years, indiscriminate cutting of trees is accelerating the rate of global warming.
it’s not only the mukula tree that the Chinese came and put value on it that needs protecting, it’s all trees and all vegetation.
global warming isn’t a western concept or issue, it’s called global for a reason. and it’s mostly poor (African) countries that will suffer the most.

@jay, that’s how shallow this govnt. they think gate charges for people going to the falls is anything when travel tours are making money from organized tours packages (accommodation, transportation, entrance fees ) is where the real money is
it’s the same shallow thinking that makes them think that shopping malls are creating jobs for Zambians (menial jobs that Zambians get, management jobs are given to foreigners who come with those chains/franchises)
